Ever since Jesus said that only God knows the hour or day of the Second Coming, preachers and self-appointed doomsayers have been trying to predict when it will happen -- and watching the sun rise on another generation. Even those who chastise date-setters nearly always say, "God's final judgment is coming soon, probably in our lifetime, so get ready."

In recent weeks, the prophetic interpreters have been citing a new reason they believe the end is coming: the impending U.S. war with Iraq. Anxious discussions have arisen on prophecy Web sites, in Bible study groups and churches, and at such gatherings as last month's 20th International Prophecy Conference in Tampa. Its title: "Shaking of Nations: Living in Perilous Times."

Yeh it's all been said before cenimo , even the media here in Australia carried on about Armageddon during the gulf war and what about those buildings that were hit by them planes! a lot of christian web sites were calling "that" the begining of world war 3 and now we have the war with Iraq and i'm sure someone will tell me the rapture is about to occur or something like that .
Every time there's a slight hickup in the world there will always be someone who gets over enthusiastic about end times.

Ah yes, good old EndTime magazine.

Using the wayback machine of http://www.archive.org here is what they said in 2000:

Endtime Magazine circa 2000

"Moving Into World Government Now
President George Bush said, "Iraq is the first test of the New World Order." (Chicago Tribune, September 12, 1990).

The term "New World Order" is recently being used with ever increasing frequency. The New Agers, Mikhail Gorbachev, and now George Bush all have been heralding the emergence of this "new world order". The New World Order is nothing more than the long dreamed of world government under the authority of the United Nations.

Understanding this we can see the role that the Iraq crisis is playing in increasing acceptance of the United Nations as a world government. President Bush has been very careful to obtain U.N. "approval" before every escalation in the Middle East.

The Bible foretells that there will be a world government formed immediately preceding the coming of Jesus Christ to establish his 1000 year kingdom of peace. This prophecy is found in Daniel 7:23. "The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces." Verse 21 and 22 of the same chapter tells us that this last kingdom prevails until the Ancient of Days (Jesus Christ) comes.

Until recently U.N. resolutions passed against nations were taken very lightly. No more! After witnessing the United Nations forces in action against Iraq, nations will tremble in their shoes when the U.N. passes a resolution. The beast now has teeth!"

Doesn't quit match up to UN/US relations as they exists now.
