What was that vid about? I've watched it 3 times, does he not want Calvinists i.e. Reformed Christians to be energized and vocal about their beliefs?

I believe it's the legalistic way some TR's (Truly Reformed) nitpick each other. The Puritan Board is a microcosm of this mentality, probably where I learned this behaviour and became apparent to me only after I left...only after I started spending more time offline. Many TR's believe you have to walk lockstep with them on every single issue under the sun or they will launch an attack on you. (sound like me yet? lol) Like a henpecked husband Reformed folks are nagged people into toeing the confessional line. There is a loving way to encourage someone to read and accept the churches confessions and I'm trying to learn that now.

Yours in the Lord,

jm

Look, it could be worse, right? Does the name "Mark Driscoll" ring a bell?
I heard he's coming back with his own church to rule. At least he didn't go so far as Rick Warren and invent the blasphemy that is chrislam.

White is a reformed Baptist. He's Calvinist. For me he failed when he gave people an ultimatum about "acting with grace". And then said if those people can't do that to get back in their cage.

I hear you brother, speaking of launching attacks by the folks on PB, yeah they've got that down to a science. I happen to be a Dispy-Calvinist, don't click this link or your head will spin..http://www.puritanboard.com/showthread.php/56219-Calvinist-Dispensationalists

That isn't the issue being raised and I actually disagree with the narrow scope of the video's premise; what he said is true of Christianity, broadly speaking.

The point he's making, albeit contextually regarding observations of professing Calvinists, is that a lot of people claim to be one thing and act completely contrary to what the embodiment of that actual profession should look like.

It's the same observation -- again, broadly speaking -- why I've mostly stepped away from 'faith' in the online sphere because there's just too many people claiming to be Christian and yet acting entirely contrary to what that profession demands.

Calvinists are, in my observation, some of the most fiercely dedicated Christians I've met. There's often times a self-emphasis on a scholastic approach to both Scripture and various other materials such as commentaries, studies and the like. The more 'serious' Christian in many aspects; most prominently, though, is often their commitment and pursuit of righteousness and glorification of God.

Granted, not all Calvinists are like that, but I believe the video is primarily meant to highlight that standards are slipping within that 'club' as he calls it.

I have experienced this there, as well. As a Baptist who is trying to understand the theology of the Paedobaptists, I have received a lot of condescension and arrogance there. Many of them clearly view us Baptists as inferiors. I am not being sarcastic; I truly believe they feel we are inferior.

Furthermore, when sub-Christian rhetoric and language is pointed out on the Board, the admonition is most of the time dismissed and the iron sights are then placed on you, your character, and your understanding of the Reformed standards (rather than Scripture).

Needless to say, while Christian Forums is not as active, I find the Reformed people here to be far more tolerable.

Yup. The pressure to accept infant baptism is unreal at times. Especially for a newb getting into Reformed theology...the Reformed Baptist is the redheaded stepchild of the Reformed world. lol

Wow! That's pretty bad, as Reformed folks are the redheaded stepchild of the church. ;)

I was Facebook acquaintances with a TR type. He routinely posted some pretty combative and aggressive things. Not content with that, he would barge into conversations and say all manner of insensitive things. No grace or mercy whatsoever.

In the end, it got to be too much and I disconnected him from Facebook... which isn't a big loss since it isn't like I know the guy IRL anyway.

I wonder if some of the crew over at PB eat this stuff for breakfast.
