I have asked God this question for the past year and get a answer almost right away yet I feel uncomfortable and unsure if I am able to do the following. My question for this forum is Why is God calling me to do something uncomfortable?
What's best is not always comfortable. Is exercise comfortable? No, but it gives you strength. Maybe God wants you to grow?

First, why are you questioning God, if it is indeed him who is calling you to something uncomfortable?

Second, God called a lot of people to do uncomfortable things. Moses didn't want to go back to Egypt till God got mad at him. Job was probably not exactly comfortable sitting out there in the ashes covered with open sores all the while being deep in grief. Jonah did not want to go to Nineveh, Joseph didn't want to marry Mary, and Jesus himself was likely more than uncomfortable taking the whipping and cross... Doing uncomfortable things actually develops our faith and our character. It makes sense if he calls us to uncomfortable things.

That is not to say God only calls us to uncomfortable things....

historyincognito: Being a follower of Jesus, ain't about making us comfortable, we called to live god honoring lives in this world, this lifework for Jesus will include: submission to God, sacrifice, persecution etc... look at Jesus' life in the bible, his life was one of submission to God, sacrifice, persecution etc too. Nothing in there about us staying comfortable. What God calls us to do, he will empower us to do it...he did it for Gideon, David, Jonah, Jeremiah, Joseph, Moses and many more.

Really? Why should He call you to do something comfortable?

I know of no one who was used mightily by God who did so in the midst of comfort and ease. Consider Moses, or Jesus, or Paul.

Jonah wasn't "comfortable" with God's assignment, either, but God cares more about the souls of people and about our obedience than about our comfort. Abraham's testing with Isaac, similarly, wouldn't have been comfortable.

Luke 9:23-26
23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it. 25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.

your flesh, like mine and everyone else's, does not like to walk by faith; it's not that God is calling you to do something uncomfortable, but that your flesh doesn't know what true comfort really is :)

The Holy Spirit, the "comforter" will comfort those doing God's will.

The comfort of the world is evil. It stagnates life, and eventually brings forth old stuffy air we should live free of.

I actually didn't believe the Holy Spirit was the "comforter" until I checked the translation, and made sure it said that. :) What I learned is that the comfort available in following Christ is when you're living it in max capacity, and if one of the cylinders of the Christian walk is failing, you wont be comforted doing God's will.

Doing his will is always better, but if you don't have Holy Spirit joy for example, it's a cylinder mis-firing in our walk.

God told me three times to go into hospital, not as a patient. I ignored Him twice because I am shy and do not normally talk to strangers. But I gave in and am now a volunteer pastoral care visitor. It is not always easy but I do enjoy it.
