Again, using semantics to be cute... :sigh:

The word sabbath means rest but there is only one seventh day Sabbath. No other Sabbath was founded in the creation account. No other Sabbath was written on stone by God's own finger... if you choose to ignore these simple facts, it's your choice but will have eternal consequences.

That begs the question as to why you don't keep the Seventh Day Sabbath, except as you have chosen to ignore the specific commandments concerning its observance. Did you go to church today? Was it just for an hour or so this morning?

Actually, we did just finish a wonderful Sabbath... everything we do on Sabbath is with God in mind and not ourselves. We start Friday evening with fellowship and devotion with friends, get a good long sleep from the lack there of during the week, spend 3-4 hours Sabbath afternoon studying... we also do reading, personal prayer time, excursions to parks to commune further with God in His creation... we sing hymns and other gospel songs and might even watch a good Christian movie on TV.

Spending 24 hours away from our "lives" and in relationship with God is the best way to recharge and fill up with His Spirit to meet the challenges of the coming week. We are discovering more and more, what Sabbath is and what it is not. By God's grace we will continue to understand His purpose for this amazing Holy day.

Is there a particular reason you reject singing the Psalms? Aside from the interesting fact that the Sabbath is not mentioned in any of the Psalms, it has always puzzled me that you, who so earnestly desire to be under the Law, reject Gods hymnbook.

Not sure why you are so adamantly trying to disparage me and my families worship but we do sign Psalm 139:23-24 if that helps you out.

Chasing shadows is a fruitless thing to spend time doing. Christians should rest in Christ everyday. If God would have thought we needed a special day to rest He would have told us by giving us a command to do so. He has given only one nation, which is now defunct, a command to rest on a certain day. He must realize the remainder of the World did not and do not need a command to rest on a certain day.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking a day to recreate. To tell others that they must also do as you do is spreading a false gospel and especially so when linked to salvation.

The Statement of Purpose for this Forum is as follows
Sabbath and the Law Statement of Purpose

The Sabbath and the Law forum is for discussing a variety of topics related to Sabbath day worship and keeping the law. All member's who participate in this forum are self-identified Christians through adherence to the Christian Forums' Statement of Faith and the Trinitarian nature of God. It is expected that people who post in the Sabbath and the Law forum will respect all members of the Christian faith. Honest and vigorous discussion and debate is welcomed, but simply attacking another member or group of members is not allowed. Discussions in this forum may at times become heated, so please remember to keep your emotions in check and your responses in line with our sitewide rules and the following guidelines.

Guidelines for Posting in the Sabbath and The Law forum:

  • Always remember that you are first and foremost brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of your theological differences on Sabbath day worship or keeping the law.
  • NT writers' teachings do not contradict each other or the teachings of Christ and are equally inspired by God. (2 Peter 3:15-16; 2 Thessalonians 3:16)
  • Although the Law of God is pleasing to a believer it is not a necessary requirement for salvation. (Psalms 119:174; Galatians 3:10, Galatians 5:18)
  • Threads which are intended to attack and flame another group of believers will be closed or removed.
  • Do not identify a group of members or a theological viewpoint with a derogatory or inflammatory label.
  • Do not use words or phrases which other members have indicated are offensive and derogatory.
  • Words and phrases which have a negative connotation in Scripture should not be used to describe a member, group of members, or a theological viewpoint. Some examples (including but not limited to): false gospel, false prophet, heretics, blasphemers, evil, sheep in wolves clothing, different God.
Handling Disagreements

Members who participate in the Sabbath and the Law forum are expected to treat one another with courtesy and respect at all times, ESPECIALLY when you disagree with each other.

  • When you disagree, address the content of the post and not the poster.
  • When you disagree with someone's position, you should post evidence and supporting statements for your position. This policy, sometimes referred to as "X means Y because of Z", must be followed especially when posting claims that are widely considered to be controversial.
  • When you disagree and you find yourself becoming frustrated and angry, step away from the computer and give yourself time to cool down.
  • Always proofread your post before hitting the "Reply" button to make sure you have responded with courtesy and respect.

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. -- Psalms 19:14

A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. -- John 13:34-35

I am not intentionally attempting to disparage you and your family's worship. I find it curious that you single out two verses of one Psalm to sing. Most other Christians I know sing the 23rd Psalm if they sing any of them. Why do you only sing Psalm 139:23,24? I find the entire Psalm eminently worthwhile.

Thanx for mentioning the 23rd Psalm... yes we sing a version of it as well... the reason we only sing these relatively few scriptures is we only learned these (the melody), so far. We have a few CD's of scripture songs but have not gotten around to learning them all yet... too many other great hymns and worship songs to sing.

So, are hymns and worship songs better than God's word?

What's up with the 3rd degree on how my family worships? What are you trying to prove? I've tried to be pleasant and respectively answer your queries but we're done.

Matthew 7:17 Do not think I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfil.
Matthew 7:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Matthew 7:19 Whosoever therefor shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men to do so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven, but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Luke 16:17 And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law of to fail.
Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away, and there was no more sea.
You fail to understand what Jesus is saying. (paraphrased) Until the world end, every word in the Old Testament will come to pass without dot a comma being changing. You also fail to understand that the words in the OT (law and prophet) prophesied of a new covenant. That means changes will come or the word cant be true.

How can you be under the new covenant when you don't believe the redeemed are Israel, yet the new covenant was promised to Judah and Israel.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah.
Indeed, I don't see gentiles anywhere. People can search Jeremiah 31:31-40 all they want, they won't find it.

Tell that to Paul.
Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:
Paul agrees, aliens from Israel have no hope, no covenant, and no God. Luckily Jesus brings us into it (Ephesians 2:12-19), and we are grafted in (Romans 11:17-24).

You fail to understand that the Gentiles has a place as Gentiles. They're adopted by God and therefore cry Abba, Father. Gentiles become Christians (followers of Christ), they do not become the Children of Israel.

Thank God that He has broken down the dividing wall between Jews and Gentiles creating one new man, the Church of God, which is neither Israel nor Gentile.
