There are a lot of wives whose names are not mentioned in the Bible. It doesn't matter, apparently, or God would have told us.

Please elaborate on what you mean by it doesn't matter.

Just as a side note:

Men of God, throughout the Bible, are mentioned by name, as well as their wives are mentioned by name.

You are wasting your time asking questions that aren't important for us to know. I'm sure the unnamed wives are important to God and important to the men who were their husbands, etc., but they aren't in the Bible so knowing their names are not important for us.

Not so, my brother.....

it is, perhaps, of more importance that it may seem, at first, as we delve into, especially the books of the Old Testament, and God's lineage and how and why names are mentioned, or not.

Most interesting.

Almost like a pattern....

Thank you for your response....it helps me attempt to meditate on, and sort it out even more.

This is correct.
Like Jesus , Paul, and others later said,
what people think and do , even apostles, is not so important.
What God does and what God says is what Lasts, this is what is important.

I'm a "sister", actually.

You can focus on the lessons from the women who are named (or so many other important things, many of which we are commanded to focus on) or you can ask why the other thousands of wives aren't named. The first is more important.

In Matthew 1, Rahab and Ruth are mentioned in the geneology. Incidently, they are in Jesus' lineage. Both were Gentiles who, at a point in each of their lives, turned from their false gods and embraced the true God. Matthew 1 provides Joseph's line, but these same women are in Mary's line (to Jesus), even though they aren't mentioned by name in Luke 3.

Perhaps what most stands out for Job's wife is what she stated to Job at the most direly excruciating time of his suffering.

What was it she said?

What was it she said?

"Curse God and die."
Not exactly an encouraging spouse, although she may have changed. Nothing tells us she died or that Job took another wife. So she may have bore Job's next ten children. Job lived at a time when people still had long lifespans.

When Job's wife was speaking thus, he needed to rely on his relationship with God alone, not his wife for encouragement (nor his friends). It doesn't mean she stayed in that bad place, but sometimes God is literally the only person we can rely on. David experienced this, too, when his band of men talked of stoning him in their grief (1 Samuel 30:6). Elijah felt he was the only one who remained faithful to God (1 Kings 19:14). Paul was very alone near the end of his life (2 Timothy 4:9-16).

Jesus said he (she) who loves father, mother, wife (husband), child, possessions, his own life more than Christ is not worthy of Him.

Matthew 10:34-39
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’ 37 He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38 And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

Luke 14:26-27
26 “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple. 27 And whoever does not bear his cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

Luke 12:52-53
51 Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. 52 For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. 53 Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.”

Dedication to God will be tested in the Tribulation when family members will put each other to death for keeping their faith.

Micah 7:5-6
5 Do not trust in a friend;
Do not put your confidence in a companion;
Guard the doors of your mouth
From her who lies in your bosom.
6 For son dishonors father,
Daughter rises against her mother,
Daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;
A man’s enemies are the men of his own household.

Matthew 10:21
21 “Now brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

Luke 21:16
16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death.

Mark 13:12
12 Now brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; and children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put to death.

I think it is critical to prepare ourselves now to give up everything, if need be--even our own lives--for the sake of Christ. Also, to prepare ourselves to remain strong in our faith even if our family members turn away from Him.

P.S. Muslim background believers are often tested in the family area from the start, since sometimes their family members will kill or otherwise persecute them for following Christ. Their stories are a great encouragement to me. I recommend More Than Dreams (a film online at www.morethandreams.org), Dreams and Visions (Tom Doyle) and I Am N (a book by Voice of the Martyrs).

You are correct.

This is what Job's wife said:

"Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die." ~Job 2:9

She confirms that Job, her husband, is a man of integrity and if this man of integrity believes in a God, surely this God IS all that Job says He is. She witnessed her husband's character (which God Himself describes in the very beginning of the book of Job)

YET she makes such a statement. This is more telling of her own regard for God than Job's, which was a disregard and contempt for not just Job, but for his God.

This was, perhaps, her own indictment on herself.

It is written that those who are unrighteous, sink into obscurity.

Their names are forgotten and/or they remain nameless.

Well shes obviously not listed in the book of life...I would imagine that her name was one that got blotted out.

What stood out for me is how she berated Job when he was at his lowest, even as she knew and confirmed and said that he was, even as she spoke the words, a man of integrity. And she was kicking him when he was down, kicking this man of God, that God Himself had described in the first verses of Job, and in essence, she was kicking his God.

it is doubtful that she knew God or cared to know God. Chances are, she had the same contempt for God as she demonstrated towards her husband.

Chances are God granted her wish.

Chances are, as you say, that she is not in the Book of Life.

i agree.

That which God is silent on, we may not know.
His Ways are so far above our ways.....

What came to mind as i read it, is this verse:

"The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot." ~Proverbs 10:7

The point is "SURPRISE! SALVATION COMES"
I saw somewhere
maybe in a paraphrase.....

People DON'T EXPECT to get saved. (and most people on earth don't).
So,
when anyone gets saved, it is "SURPRISE! SALVATION COMES"

and a complete change of life that they didn't know about, or didn't know how , before,
then
"SURPRISE" the re-birth accomplished by God makes it so.(and ongoing, daily, new life, visible to everyone).

Edit: I meant to quote a user but something went wrong when I did.

If Job was not a real person, then these Scripture does not make sense:

13 "Son of man, when a land sins against me by acting faithlessly, and I stretch out my hand against it and break its supply of bread and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast,
14 even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness, declares the Lord GOD.
15 "If I cause wild beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no one may pass through because of the beasts,
16 even if these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters. They alone would be delivered, but the land would be desolate.
17 "Or if I bring a sword upon that land and say, Let a sword pass through the land, and I cut off from it man and beast,
18 though these three men were in it, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, they would deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they alone would be delivered.
19 "Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my wrath upon it with blood, to cut off from it man and beast,
20 even if Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, declares the Lord GOD, they would deliver neither son nor daughter. They would deliver but their own lives by their righteousness. - Ezekiel 14:13-20

Behold, we consider those blessed who remained steadfast. You have heard of the steadfastness of Job, and you have seen the purpose of the Lord, how the Lord is compassionate and merciful. - James 5:11
