In Mormon teachings, First estate refers to the period of time otherwise known as premortal life. Notice the word "organize" in verse 22 below; that is the word Mormons frequently use because the intelligences had no beginning.

Pearl of Great Price, Abraham 3
22 Now the Lord had shown unto me, Abraham, the intelligences that were organized before the world was; and among all these there were many of the noble and great ones;

23 And God saw these souls that they were good, and he stood in the midst of them, and he said: These I will make my rulers; for he stood among those that were spirits, and he saw that they were good; and he said unto me: Abraham, thou art one of them; thou wast chosen before thou wast born.

24 And there stood one among them that was like unto God, and he said unto those who were with him: We will go down, for there is space there, and we will take of these materials, and we will make an earth whereon these may dwell;

25 And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will doall things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

26 And they who keep their first estate shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever.

27 And the Lord said: Whom shall I send? And one answered like unto the Son of Man: Here am I, send me. And another answered and said: Here am I, send me. And the Lord said: I will send the first.

28 And the second was angry, and kept not his first estate; and, at that day, many followed after him.

(The first one refers to Jesus, the second one to Lucifer.)

Verse 26 (keeping the first estate means they were obedient). The strange thing about verse 26, is that it suggests there were some that didn't keep their first estate but weren't cast out with Satan; it's already determined that they won't make it to the highest level of the Celestial Kingdom.

So if God determines the place of our existence on earth as the Bible teaches, he sends most of the more valiant spirits of this dispensation to good Mormon families, does he not? They will be taught Mormonism from a very early age. They will be conditioned to obey the laws and ordinances of the Mormon church.

Ezra Taft Benson taught:
...To possess a testimony of Jesus is to know that the Church, which He established in the meridian of time and restored in modern times is, as the Lord has declared, “the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth.” (D&C 1:30.)

Having such a testimony is vital. But of even greater importance is being valiant in our testimony.

A testimony of Jesus means that we accept the divine mission of Jesus Christ, embrace His gospel, and do His works. It also means we accept the prophetic mission of Joseph Smith and his successors and follow their counsel. As Jesus said, “Whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” (D&C 1:38.)

Jude
6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Rev 12
And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth...And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Angels aren't men. And you didn't address my post. Some of the people on earth weren't valiant enough in pre-mortality to even have an opportunity for exaltation.

You have no scripture to back up your claim. And if you did, it would contradict verse 26. Did you read verse 26 carefully and understand it?

We understand that we kept our first estate, we who belong to this Church, that we have received the Gospel, and if we live as we should, we will be "added upon."

"... and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate ..." (Abr 3:26.)

The Lord has told us that we have three kingdoms, celestial, terrestrial, and telestial; he has told us who will be, in great broad classifications, in each of these kingdoms, possess each of these glories....

Now, this matter of body which, I take it, will come to those who keep their first estate; and those who do not keep their first estate, but who do not belong to the rebellious group, they all get bodies too. We have our bodies. We are not all born in the same circumstances, with the same advantages, and all the rest of it. But evidently the possession of a body was a great consideration, and I refer you, in that connection, to the incident of the Gadarene demons.

... I can imagine that those who did not keep their first estate but who still may come to earth and get a body, are anxious to come and get a body no matter what the conditions are ...

Joseph Fielding Smith, President of the Quorum of the Twelve, Answers to Gospel Questions 2:186. In the Book of Moses, Chapter 4, and in the Book of Abraham, Chapter 3, we are taught that there was a council held in heaven and our Eternal Father presented a plan by which we could come down on the earth and receive tabernacles (bodies) of flesh and bones for our spirits which are begotten sons and daughters unto God. We learn also that one third of those spirits rebelled against the plan and followed Satan. For this they were denied bodies of flesh and bones and have to remain spirits.... Well, there were other spirits there who were not faithful in keeping of this first estate (Abr 3:23-28). Yet they have not sinned away their right to receive bodies and come to earth and receive the resurrection. They were restricted in the privileges that were given to those who keep their first estate and who were promised to have "glory added upon their heads for ever and ever" (Abr 3:26).

Joseph Fielding Smith, Answers to Gospel Questions, 4:151-152. The implication here [Abr 3:22-26] is very clear that all were capable of keeping their first estate, but that there would be many who would not do so. Therefore they were to receive rewards according to merit. The promise of reward therefore was open to all based on their faithfulness and obedience.

Heber J. Grant, Collected Discourses, Vol 3., November 6, 1892, n.p. We have been placed upon this earth because of our faithfulness in having kept our first estate. The labors that we performed in the sphere that we left before we came here have had a certain effect upon our lives here, and to a certain extent they govern and control the lives that we lead here, just the same as the labors that we do here will control and govern our lives when we pass from this stage of existence. It has been revealed to us, through the Prophet Joseph Smith, that whatever degree of intelligence we shall attain to in this life, the same will rise with us in the life to come. It is because of this knowledge that we will have an advantage over those that are negligent, in the life to come. It is now explained to my mind how some come into this world without any particular degree of energy or desire to labor for their fellows and for the spread of righteousness; it is because of their failure to have kept their first estate with diligence and with fidelity.

Elray L. Christiansen, BYU Speeches, March 24, 1964, 5. [Bracketed text in original.] And they who keep their first estate [in the pre-existence; and we did] shall be added upon; and they who keep not their first estate shall not have glory in the same kingdom with those who keep their first estate; [This might give us some answer to the differences that we see among human beings.] and they who keep their second estate [in which we now find ourselves] shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever. (Abraham 3:22-26.)

Doctrine and Covenants 130
18 Whatever principle of intelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the resurrection.

19 And if a person gains more knowledge and intelligence in this life through his diligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the advantage in the world to come.

Angels aren't men.

This is why we have a hard time believing you were ever Mormon. You simply do not know the doctrine, this is one of those points the missionaries would have taught you.

Rev 12
10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Note that Satan accuses their brethren, so who are the angels brethren?
Job 1
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them.
7 And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going toand fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
8 And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
9 Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

Zech 3
1 And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him.
2 And the Lord said unto Satan, The Lord rebuke thee, O Satan; even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire?

Satan is accusing men on earth!

and then from Rev 22

8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellow servant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.

This angel was one of the prophets, one of John's brethren.

The angels are our brethren and not some made up creatures flying around with wings.

Matt 28 says
1 ...the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
2 And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
3 His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

In Mark the angel is described this way;
Mark 16
5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.

Luke 24
3 And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.
4 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:
5 And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth,...

In Mormon doctrine angels and men are one and the same, spirit children of God. One third of the angels or one third of God's spirit children, the sons of God rebelled against God. They were not worthy of receiving a body let alone exaltation.

The Lord's parable of the talents fits the concept.

"For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods." Matt 25

The man has three servants and he gives them each a portion of money, the first one 5, the second one 2 and the last man 1, each man according to his expected ability. The first two wise servants double their money through investments, thus keeping their second estate. They are told "thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord"

The last man chooses to bury his money and does nothing with it, he did not keep his second estate. " 30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

But the interesting thing here is the master says;

"Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance..." 28-29

That is what Abraham 3 is teaching
"...and they who keep their second estate shall have glory added upon their heads for ever and ever"

But please note none of this is about salvation from sin but about the reward which is based on our fruits.

Why are you upset with me? What I told you is what your leaders teach. It isn't something I made up and it isn't something that I misunderstood:

Mormonism: Not all souls are equal when they come to this earth. Those who didn't keep their first estate won't share the same glory as those who did. Outer darkness is no glory. Some of those who didn't keep their first estate were not cast out and some were.

Those who don't keep their first estate don't come to this earth except as devils just as Jude says, it's all very Biblical.

Are you a spokesperson for the mouse in your pocket?

Your comment doesn't actually respond to WonderingAwe's comment of "This is why we have a hard time believing you were ever Mormon. You simply do not know the doctrine, this is one of those points the missionaries would have taught you."

Why are you upset with me? What I told you is what your leaders teach. It isn't something I made up and it isn't something that I misunderstood:

You don't believe it and I don't really care if you don't. You think you know our theology but it is a superficial understanding in which you interpret it wrong some many times.

I'm sorry but you have not demostrated an understanding of LDS beliefs.

A typical response to any ex-Mormon doesn't impress me. You make such an accusation, but can't show anyone that the information I posted did not come from LDS scripture or other LDS sources. So you think that Joseph Fielding Smith didn't understand LDS teachings? Too bad. So many Mormons believed he was knowledgable and honest. I was an active tithe-paying Mormon for more that twelve years and I was taught that not all souls are equal as your Pearl of Great Price teaches. Many of your leaders taught the same thing. Are you trying to demonstrate that your leaders were wrong? I thought so!

What I think is that you shouldn't accuse your leaders of either being dishonest or uninformed because I back up my statements with what they taught and 99% per cent of those quotes came from LDS sources on the internet. I think you are either uninformed, distrustful, or highly prejudiced against ex-Mormons. Of course, years ago, I knew the Mormon attitude against ex-Mormons.
