I think the big question is why the end is being delayed so long. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

It's in the bible. God will accomplish 70 years in the desolation of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will expand and prosper, fully rebuilt with a 3rd temple.

We know the time and season is near when the Lord will come as a thief in the night, we just don't know the day and hour.

So, you're saying the end will come when there are no more righteous people on the planet?

According to this, very few:

Daniel 12:6-7
6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?”
7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

But Jesus told us some of the elect will survive.

I'll let you know after July 2016

Why? Are you an astronomer with inside info the government won't allow us to know or there would be worldwide panic? Even more than if Trump gets anywhere near the White House gate??? Run for the hills!

Oh, wait. :ebil:

I'll let you answer first.

A temple finally being built in Jerusalem would cause worldwide praise among Christians. Good. We would be too busy to panic.

"For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay.

Enjoy the delay while you can. Feed the birds, ride your bike, pet your cat and just rejoice in this day of the Lord's creation while you can.

When He starts rolling this place up like a scroll, things might be happening fast.
Remind you of the day September 11, 2001?

I honestly understand this. While I do not believe God intends us to be without loved ones, we are warned:
Mat 24:19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

I have come to God with the approach in prayer, for years now, that he would harden my heart against this world; even as he hardened Pharo's against God. I have also prayed for the ability, and the faith to endure not only my own persecution, but that of my family's, and be granted the inability to deny Jesus Christ. I have made the decision to take God's warning seriously, and make preparations. This is going to sound harsh. My wife, and children know that if I am put in a situation of denying Jesus to save their lives; they are about to die. I exspect the same. And again, it may be harsh, but I have some members of my family I know will happily receive the mark in order to preserve their own life. I have all but disassociated myself from them. This life here and now is not what is important. What is important is our walk with Christ, and believing in his promise.

This also brings me back to the original point. We have to LOOK for his return. No, we do not know the exact day or time, but we can see the signs. I believe we need to actively look for these signs.
The Lord told us to watch for HIS coming, not for the End Times. Smart.

The Lord is about to do something new:

Isaiah 43:15-28 Israel: I am the Lord, your Holy One, your Creator and your King. I am the One who opened a path through the sea and drew the Egyptians to their destruction. Exodus 14:28

Now, you must stop thinking about past events, for I am about to do something new, in an instant it will happen – can you perceive it? Even through the wilderness, I shall make a way, it will be a highway in the barren desert. The wild beasts and birds will honour Me, for I will provide water: rivers in the dry wasteland. My chosen people, the people that I have formed for Myself, will satisfy their thirst and will proclaim My Glory. Isaiah 66:18-21
Yet Israel: you have not called to Me, much less have you spent yourselves in My service. I did not demand sacrifices or grain offerings, but you have burdened Me with your sins and wearied Me with your crimes.
I am the Creator God and for My own sake I will wipe out your transgressions and will remember your sins no more. Ask Me to appear and let us argue this out, set forth your case and establish your innocence. Your first forefathers transgressed and your leaders rebelled and desecrated My sanctuary, that is why I put Jacob under a solemn curse and let Israel be reviled. Ref: REB.

let Israel be reviled’. The House of Israel, [the Northern ten tribes] conquered by Assyria, then scattered around the world and now mainly the Christian peoples. Their decreed term of exile is nearly over. Isaiah 1:1-7, Ezekiel 6:11-12, Isaiah 51:17-20, Jeremiah 9:13-20

Israel, you have not called to Me’. The descendants of Israel have lost all knowledge of their ancestry the Laws and ordinances have been changed and abrogated. They have sunk into apostasy and atheism. Hosea 9:4, Isaiah 57:11-19, Isaiah 28:7-8

in an instant it will happen’. This says how the forthcoming Lord’s Day of vengeance and wrath will occur. It is the repeatedly prophesied worldwide judgement and punishment by fire, in the form of a Coronal Mass Ejection sun explosion. Psalms 11:4-6, Isaiah 29:5-6, Jeremiah 6:26

Ask Me to appear’. The Lord will become known to his people, in the same manner as during the first Exodus, that is: not physically. It isn’t until the Return of the Lord Jesus, to happen much later, that ‘all the world will see Him’. Ezekiel 20:38, 2 Thessalonians 1:10, Isaiah 60:1-3

a highway back to their heritage’. The Lord is waiting to show His favour to His people, now every true Christian. After the terrible devastation of the Lord’s Day of wrath that will affect everyone, all the Lord’s righteous Christian people will travel to the Middle East and will gather with great joy in the holy Land. Isaiah 58:11, Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 30:29, 1 Corinthians 10:4, Isaiah 60:8-9

Matthew 24:32-33 tells us when we see all these signs (Matthew 24:4-31), it's very near. So we are supposed to see these things.

Watching doesn't mean looking at the sky. Jesus devoted multiple parables to what He means by watching in Matthew 24-25.

And since we all know "near" means "thousands of years away", there's clearly no rush.

At least I know someone read my post.

Now that you mention it... my brother is a retired NASA scientist who recently moved from the coast to the mountains !

But no, I have no inside information other than personal signs I posted on my topic about Ezekiel's wife and the fall of Jerusalem.

You never know. Do you?

You are obviously not an astronomer with secret knowledge that the government won't allow you to share with the world for fear of worldwide panic as well. Or are you....? Hmm..... :swoon:

On another topic, we discussed the "sign" of the "Son of Man" that makes the people of the earth mourn.
Since, you seem interested in stars... do you think that sign is a special star or ?? If so, why does it cause
the people to mourn.

Let's presume that it was true that we were going to see the end very soon, and that the shadow of farewell is upon us right now.

How would you feel?

I think I would be entirely at peace if we were going to taken away, but I would also feel bittersweet about it.

I would be filled with joy. Come Lord Jesus!

I'd have to read the topic before commenting. What is the title?

I'm not really interested in stars per say. Is it God's sense of irony that a star (suggested as Haley's Comet) appeared at Jesus' birth, then the earth is hit by an object from the heavens before His return? Makes perfect sense. Look to the heavens. Not to the earth.

That makes no sense. If we see Jerusalem expanding and prospering, as it has in the last 70-odd years, how can the Lord come like a thief in the night?

Israel hasn't expanded it's borders in all direction yet nor have they been as prosperous as the bible prophesied: the wealth of all nations will be brought to the temple in Jerusalem during the first half of the tribulation. There hasn't been a temple built in Jerusalem for almost 2000 years for this to happen yet.

Haggai 2:6-9 Good News Translation (GNT)
6 “Before long I will shake heaven and earth, land and sea. 7 I will overthrow all the nations, and their treasures will be brought here, and the Temple will be filled with wealth. 8 All the silver and gold of the world is mine. 9 The new Temple will be more splendid than the old one, and there I will give my people prosperity and peace.” The Lord Almighty has spoken.

Isaiah 14:1-2 Good News Translation (GNT)
1 The Lord will once again be merciful to his people Israel and choose them as his own. He will let them live in their own land again, and foreigners will come and live there with them. 2 Many nations will help the people of Israel return to the land which the Lord gave them, and there the nations will serve Israel as slaves. Those who once captured Israel will now be captured by Israel, and the people of Israel will rule over those who once oppressed them.

Zechariah 1:16-2:5 Good News Translation (GNT)
16 So I have come back to Jerusalem to show mercy to the city. My Temple will be restored, and the city will be rebuilt.”
17 The angel also told me to proclaim: “The Lord Almighty says that his cities will be prosperous again and that he will once again help Jerusalem and claim the city as his own.”
18 In another vision I saw four ox horns. 19 I asked the angel that had been speaking to me, “What do these horns mean?”
He answered, “They stand for the world powers that have scattered the people of Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.”
20 Then the Lord showed me four workers with hammers. 21 I asked, “What have they come to do?”
He answered, “They have come to terrify and overthrow the nations that completely crushed the land of Judah and scattered its people.”

1 In another vision I saw a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 “Where are you going?” I asked.
“To measure Jerusalem,” he answered, “to see how long and how wide it is.”
3 Then I saw the angel who had been speaking to me step forward, and another angel came to meet him.4 The first one said to the other, “Run and tell that young man with the measuring line that there are going to be so many people and so much livestock in Jerusalem that it will be too big to have walls. 5 The Lord has promised that he himself will be a wall of fire around the city to protect it and that he will live there in all his glory.”

Zechariah 8:1-23 Good News Translation (GNT)
1 The Lord Almighty gave this message to Zechariah: 2 “I have longed to help Jerusalem because of my deep love for her people, a love which has made me angry with her enemies. 3 I will return to Jerusalem, my holy city, and live there. It will be known as the faithful city, and the hill of the Lord Almighty will be called the sacred hill. 4 Once again old men and women, so old that they use canes when they walk, will be sitting in the city squares. 5 And the streets will again be full of boys and girls playing.

6 “This may seem impossible to those of the nation who are now left, but it's not impossible for me. 7 I will rescue my people from the lands where they have been taken, 8 and will bring them back from east and west to live in Jerusalem. They will be my people, and I will be their God, ruling over them faithfully and justly.

9 “Have courage! You are now hearing the same words the prophets spoke at the time the foundation was being laid for rebuilding my Temple.10 Before that time no one could afford to hire either men or animals, and no one was safe from enemies. I turned people against one another.11 But now I am treating the survivors of this nation differently. 12 They will plant their crops in peace. Their vines will bear grapes, the earth will produce crops, and there will be plenty of rain. I will give all these blessings to the people of my nation who survive. 13 People of Judah and Israel! In the past foreigners have cursed one another by saying, ‘May the same disasters fall on you that fell on Judah and Israel!’ But I will save you, and then those foreigners will say to one another, ‘May you receive the same blessings that came to Judah and Israel!’ So have courage and don't be afraid.”

14 The Lord Almighty says, “When your ancestors made me angry, I planned disaster for them and did not change my mind, but carried out my plans. 15 But now I am planning to bless the people of Jerusalem and Judah. So don't be afraid. 16 These are the things you should do: Speak the truth to one another. In the courts give real justice—the kind that brings peace. 17 Do not plan ways of harming one another. Do not give false testimony under oath. I hate lying, injustice, and violence.”

18 The Lord Almighty gave this message to Zechariah: 19 “The fasts held in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and tenth months will become festivals of joy and gladness for the people of Judah. You must love truth and peace.”

20 The Lord Almighty says, “The time is coming when people from many cities will come to Jerusalem. 21 Those from one city will say to those from another, ‘We are going to worship the Lord Almighty and pray for his blessing. Come with us!’ 22 Many peoples and powerful nations will come to Jerusalem to worship the Lord Almighty and to pray for his blessing. 23 In those days ten foreigners will come to one Jew and say, ‘We want to share in your destiny, because we have heard that God is with you.’”

Israel and Jerusalem won't expand it's borders till only months before the start of the tribulation. Prosperity for Israel begins in the first year of the tribulation --- once the foundation of the temple has been completed --- and will last till the middle of Daniel's 70th week while the rest of the world endures a time of God's judgement.

And if He's to come like a thief in the night, we know it won't be in daylight hours so that considerably whittles His ETA down a bit.

A thief in the night is just figurative. When one part of the world is in daylight, the other side of the world is night.

A temple finally being built in Jerusalem would cause worldwide praise among Christians. Good. We would be too busy to panic.

During the tribulation, the Christians that will be here (minus the new believers) are professing Christians. Some even deny the creation of a new future temple in Jerusalem.

----The earth gets hit by the asteroid "Wormwood", meanwhile they keep building this temple? Or they build it and then the earth gets hit?

A thief in the night is just figurative. When one part of the world is in daylight, the other side of the world is night.
----Smart. This verse serves to only reinforce the inability to predict when Jesus will return. Very smart. Gotta love the Lord's wordplay!

During the tribulation, the Christians that will be here (minus the new believers) are professing Christians. Some even deny the creation of a new future temple in Jerusalem.
----Yet the bible states that all people will get this mark of the beast? What about these Christians that have been Christians all along (i.e., not new)? They get hunted down and have their heads cut off. How can that many Christians be left then?

I'm not denying this temple will be physically built. Mainly because the reason is I never studied the subject in any depth. I even left a church when they started studying Revelation to avoid it. Eschatology is not exactly my forte in the bible. I know very little of it--and more-so have always avoided the entire subject for personal reasons. I saw how it destroyed and twisted what little faith my father had when he latched onto it amidst a bunch of obsessive people trying to figure out the whole thing and predict the "exact return" of Jesus. I don't like recalling those horrible days.

Please be advised I might unconsciously get a bit flippant in commenting. No harm is intended. Its merely the old defense response mechanism kicking in. My conclusion to the whole subject is, "Seek the Lost while we can. It's what we're here for, after all."
