Do you make the Sign of the Cross while receiving absolution?

I was wondering if anyone does this, like when the priest is saying the Prayer of Absolution, when he gets to the part "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen" do you make the sign on yourself? Or do you do nothing? I tend to do it out of habit of doing it everytime I hear the Trinity... Just wondering if anyone else does this, haha!

I do it

lol partly out of habit

but also because confession is about beginning again
acknowledging that you have failed, gotten knocked down
and now you are picking up your cross again, by His grace you are able to get up and start to follow Him again
so you "put on the cross" as a sign of accepting all that the Lord has given you

Depends where and with whom I am confessing

If it's Latin style confession - then yes

If it's Byzantine style - then usually no - as the priest puts his epitrachelion [ stole ] on my head and signs me with the cross then , then takes it off my head and gives me the end of his epitrachelion to kiss and then holds his hand cross for me to kiss

Interesting. I always thought of the sign of the cross as being about the Trinity more than the cross. The Father at the head, Jesus at the heart, the Spirit enveloping us with love, with us today, holding us. That's what I learned as a child.

gracious! I don't think i could remember all that.

I'm glad to be able to sign the cross and receive absolution and forgiveness,
and Father's blessing and sending forth.
Confession is a good thing!
