Some things struck me as reading the end of Genesis maybe to explore further
1. what is the significance of the blessing with Ephraim and Manasseh? What were the differences between these two boys?
2. the other blessings of the twelve, specifically Judah who is a 'lions whelp', none of these blessings seems particularly encouraging! One of them, Gad, I think, was likened to an adder, and Reuben gets admonished..poor Dinah, the daughter, isn't even mentioned.
3. Joseph is embalmed, is it according the egyptian manner?
4. You meant evil but God meant it for good. A much quoted verse.

Hmm Paul says to flee idolatry.
Yet many professed christians dont do this. They are just the same as the world and worship the same things as non christians. I was just thinking about cs lewis. He wrote something called the pilgrims regress.

Note, not the prilgrims PROGRESS. Then he turned aside to myths, penning narnia. That is not a normal christians journey of faith, going backwards to pagan idols and reworking them.
If we follow Jesus, there is NO TURNING BACK.

Lol exodus. So the israelites learned not to go back to egypt and worship the cat gods either. They didnt even bother witnessing or trying to convince the egyptians with clever apologetic arguments. I mean God had already dealt with the egyptians by hardening their hearts.

God sent them through the red sea, they were baptised and they werent allowed to go back. Even though some complained about all the leeks and onions and fine foods the had in egypt and missed them. Go back to slavery after God had led them, saved them out of the plagues and through the red sea?? You have got to be kidding me.

They had the promised land to look forward to, they could not waste time hoping the egyptians would come with them.

First four chapters of exodus...what strikes me is that moses was given the power to do miracles by God, to show the egyptians who really was Boss.

And moses wasnt the most eloquent man or the most learned, he was actually a shepherd. But God gave him the words to speak also.

Moses didnt try to explain to the egyptians why it was logical to believe in God, hoping to sway them and maybe convert them with clever arguments. God demonstrated his power, and I think that in a christian context, the same applies with Jesus, he not only gave him the words to speak but also miracles and healing POWER behind those words. It wasnt like Jesus was desperately trying to convince others WHY he believed in God.

Anyway just some thoughts. Like moses, God called Jesus out of egypt. Remember Jesus stayed in egypt for a time when Herod was trying to kill him.

David killed a lion and bear that was going after and killing his sheep. Paralells with Jesus being the lamb that was slain.
David killed Goliath with a stone, not a sword. Parallels with Jesus crushing satans kingdom with a stone.

Another thing. You have to be wary of a King who likes throwing javelins at you.

In 1 Samuel 16:1 at the end of the verse, the Lord tells Samuel that He has provided Himself a king among the sons of Jesse, the king being Christ.

David is described in 16:12 as "ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking." The definition of ruddy means a healthy red color on the face. Maybe from being out in the sun with the sheep?

In 17:4, Goliath is said to be six cubits and a span tall. That is 9 feet and 9 inches. In the next verse his armor is said to weigh 5,000 shekels of bronze. That's about 125 pounds. Then in verse 7 it says the spearhead of his javelin weighs 600 shekels of bronze, which is about 18 pounds. This is showing how large and strong Goliath was in comparison to David.

In 17:37, David had great faith in the Lord, enough to take on a 9'9" giant.

In 17:42, Goliath belittles David, meaning he makes him seem unimportant. Oh how wrong he was.

17:49, David slew Goliath with one tiny stone from a brook. He slew a 9'9" giant with a STONE!

In 18:8-11, Saul is jealous of David because the song the women sang makes David out to be greater than Saul and he became very suspicious of David. I think this situation affected how the evil spirit in Saul normally acts, since he tried to kill David.

In the rest of chapter 18, Saul tries very hard to get David to marry one of his daughters. He tried to trick him into battle before the wedding so that the Philistines would kill him, but God was with David. Saul is a loony.

In chapter 19, Jonathan saves David from being killed by Saul. Saul says 'as the Lord lives, he shall not be killed' and then tries to kill David again! Saul sends three sets of messengers after David and they all begin to prophesy. Saul himself goes after David and prophesies.

In chapter 20, Jonathan and David devise a plan to help David escape from Saul. Saul is angry and tries to kill Jonathan, and Jonathan tells David to flee.

I've never really read any of 1 Samuel and I really enjoyed that. It felt like a movie in my head.

But history kind of repeats itself with what David did to Uriah.
Sorry I am getting ahead.
I also dont really get the prophesying naked bit.

Yeah I didn't get that either.
