His Purpose for Me

Psalm 138:8
The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O Lord, endures forever – do not abandon the works of your hands. NIV

It’s good to know that God has a purpose for each one of us. The Scripture there does not say that the Lord will fulfill my purpose; it says the Lord will fulfill His purpose for me. There’s a great difference. I may have one purpose; God may have another. God does not guarantee that He will fulfill my purpose, but He does promise that He will fulfill His purpose.

And then the psalmist goes on to say, “Your love, O Lord [and that means ‘your covenant-keeping faithfulness’], endures forever.” When God commits Himself to us to fulfill His purpose in our lives, that is a commitment for time and for eternity.

And then, maybe out of a situation of desperation, the psalmist says, “Do not abandon the works of your hands.” I remember once being at the deathbed of a lady who was dying of cancer, a strong believer. She read that last verse in the version of The Living Bible: “You made me; don’t abandon me.” And she had strong assurance as she read those words: “You made me; don’t abandon me.” But that’s for each one of us. God made us; He will not abandon us. He has a purpose; He’s going to fulfill it. Maybe it won’t be your purpose, but it will be His purpose. That purpose will stand sure and unshakable no matter what you go through.

DAVID: A MODEL OF SERVANTHOOD

2 Samuel 7:8-17

From his days as a simple shepherd boy to the time he was a heroic ruler, David served God in many capacities. By looking at the various stages of his life, we can clearly see how his godly devotion allowed the Lord to use him mightily.

Shepherd. David was anointed as king long before commanding anything other than sheep (1 Samuel 16:1-13). Shepherding was a job he took so seriously that he even killed a lion and a bear to protect his flock. During those days, he learned to be strong and brave, and to take care of creatures weaker than himself. An early life of obedience to his earthly father taught him the humility he would later need in order to depend on his heavenly Father.

Psalmist. David’s writings reveal his hunger for God. He is open about issues such as fear, depression, defeat, loneliness, and sorrow. By describing valley experiences and communing with the Lord in the night watches, David provided us with intimate glimpses of the God he knew so well.

Leader. Following his encounter with Bathsheba, David’s life was plagued by heartache, suffering, and conflict. He’d sinned greatly, but God forgave him and continued to use him as king and military commander. He ruled Israel for 40 years, and his people called Jerusalem the “City of David.” His restoration teaches us about sin’s consequences and God’s limitlessness grace.

King David served God’s purpose when he lived, and his impact continues thousands of years later—every follower of Jesus Christ has been blessed by David’s obedience, service, and literary skill. He is a great example of what God can accomplish through us if we yield our lives to Him.

God called to him….And he said, "Here I am." —Exodus 3:4

When God speaks, many of us are like people in a fog, and we give no answer. Moses’ reply to God revealed that he knew where he was and that he was ready. Readiness means having a right relationship to God and having the knowledge of where we are. We are so busy telling God where we would like to go. Yet the man or woman who is ready for God and His work is the one who receives the prize when the summons comes. We wait with the idea that some great opportunity or something sensational will be coming our way, and when it does come we are quick to cry out, “Here I am.” Whenever we sense that Jesus Christ is rising up to take authority over some great task, we are there, but we are not ready for some obscure duty.

Readiness for God means that we are prepared to do the smallest thing or the largest thing— it makes no difference. It means we have no choice in what we want to do, but that whatever God’s plans may be, we are there and ready. Whenever any duty presents itself, we hear God’s voice as our Lord heard His Father’s voice, and we are ready for it with the total readiness of our love for Him. Jesus Christ expects to do with us just as His Father did with Him. He can put us wherever He wants, in pleasant duties or in menial ones, because our union with Him is the same as His union with the Father. “…that they may be one just as We are one…” (John 17:22).

Be ready for the sudden surprise visits of God. A ready person never needs to get ready— he is ready. Think of the time we waste trying to get ready once God has called! The burning bush is a symbol of everything that surrounds the person who is ready, and it is on fire with the presence of God Himself.

Computer issues are definitely no fun. Thanks for letting us know Shalico and I pray that it gets resolved soon. Miss you much. Blessings.

Moriah Ruth

Thank you for understanding, Moriah. I'm trying to get a little posting in, but most of the time my computer doesn't even stay on 10 minutes at a time. It automatically shuts off in the middle of a post.

God bless.

DON’T LOSE CONTROL!

‘…Anger resides in the lap of fools.’
Ecclesiastes 7:9

The word ‘anger’ is just one letter short of the word ‘danger.’ When you lose control you risk losing other things as well, like the respect of others or the chance to find a constructive solution. Anger toward human suffering is not only appropriate; it’s the catalyst for change.

Paul writes, "Be angry…but…don’t stay angry…’ (Ephesians 4:26 TM). The Chinese have a saying: ‘Anger is the wind that blows out the lamp of the mind.’

So: 1) Before you react, take a walk. It burns off excess adrenaline and it’s more effective than stewing. It also helps you to think more clearly and handle things in a way you won’t regret. ‘A quick-tempered man does foolish things…’ (Proverbs 14:17 NIV).

2) Recognise the things you can’t control. You can’t control other people’s attitudes and actions, or unforeseen events such as cancelled flights and traffic jams. ‘What should I do?’ you ask. Count your blessings, particularly the fact that you have God, salvation, your health, your family, your job, and a car to get to it, etc.

3) Be careful where you vent. It’s one thing to be angry; it’s another to ‘sound off’ at the wrong time. ‘A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards’ (Proverbs 29:11 KJV). It’s okay to share your feelings with those you trust and who are not the targets of your anger. But be careful, your words can come back and bite you!

4) Keep your distance from angry people. The Bible says, ‘Don’t hang out with angry people…’ (Proverbs 22:24 TM). Anger, like joy and gratitude, is contagious, so keep your distance.

I understand. You may want to check to see if there are any viruses, also clean up anything that is not being used, Cleaning out your cookies and cache. Also may need more memory, etc.

Moriah Ruth

Thank you for the ideas. I tried cleaning the computer out, and I haven't completely ruled out that there might be viruses. There was a memory test done on it, and that turned out fine. And I always clear the cookies and the cache before getting off. Someone else told me it might be the power supply or something to do with the fan. I now am running my computer in Safe Mode and it hasn't turned off yet. However, everything is all stretched out on the screen. I'm still trying to save to see if I can get a laptop. I'm just glad to be able to be on when I can. I do miss Words of Encouragement.

God bless you Moriah.

God is saying, "You looked to others to help you during your time of need, but instead they turned their backs on you. Do not get angry, just understand that those moments allow you to depend on Me. People may turn their back on you, but I never will!"
