The article does not discuss Catholicism.

Quite true. However, as can be seen in the article, this ancient religion of the worship of the Mother Goddess has now morphed into a denominational religion which apes the forms of the Catholic Church. It has a "Holy See", dioceses, and an internal bureaucrcy which are utterly foreign to the historic organization of the religion, but which have borrowed heavily from Catholicism as filtered from the French occupancy of Indo-China (including Vietnam). In an effort to vault this religion from a localized belief system practiced by southeast Asians, the transnationalism of Catholicism is being adopted.

I as a devout Catholic think this is heresy. This needs to be addressed by the bishops. Mary is the Mother of God, Queen of Heaven. However she is not a goddess and should not be worshipped. Saint worship is highly condemn by the Catholic Church. However bowing and praying to Mary is different compared to worshipping her.

Cao Dai is not Catholicism.

There's only so much Roman Catholics can do about other religions, especially since Vatican II affirms the right of everyone to freedom of religion. It's not a Roman Catholic problem.

You might as well ask Baptists what they think of David Koresh or Sun Myung Moon being the Messiah.

interesting

well transnationalism seems to be a good idea for ANY religion that wishes to spread
and with the Globilization of the modern world, with people and ideas spreading across boarders like never before, I expect many religions will adopt in a similar way

not really a Catholic issue, just the nature of Globilization in the late 20th and 21rst centuries

Within the relatively sizable Catholic Church in Vietnam there is a growing movement to worship the Mother Goddess, Mary, who exceeds God, her Son, in majesty and glory. What do other Catholics think about this?

Dominate Vietnamese religion is Buddhist and I imagine it plays a role in how people approach faith and worship. With thousands of Buddhist statues and even Lady Buddhas, some very grand, to someone steeped in these things and looking at seemingly like values in the Catholic Church its easy to draw the line. The church needs to be responsible to its mission and how they approach faith and statues of Mary in a dominate Buddhist culture isn't an example of that.

You'll notice the article says nothing about Catholicism. That's because this is an entirely different religion.

Christianity has been in Asia for quite some time now, and syncretistic religions are popping up that combine elements of Christianity with Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism. This is just another one of those. Yawn.
