A San Diego woman apparently upset about her haircut returned to a barber shop and attempted to shoot the barber, according to police.

Adrian Blanche Swain, 29, got a haircut around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 619 Barber Shop on 30th Street in the North Park neighborhood.

She returned to the barber shop three hours later complaining about her haircut, San Diego police Sgt. Ray Battrick told KSWB.

The woman pulled out a gun, tried to pull the trigger three times, but the gun jammed, police said.

"The gun had bullets but malfunctioned,'' Battrick said.

The barber and another employee wrestled the woman to the ground and were able to get the gun out of her hand, police said.

"She messed it up with some straight razors ... She erased everything I did, messed it up with a razor, took it all off ... and then she came in and said 'Look what you did to my hair!'" the barber told KSWB.

Swain was arrested and faces charges of attempted murder.

My questions may seem silly but I promise there is a point to them.

1. If someone gave you a bad haircut (in this case) or even a bad dye job for example, how would you react? What would you do?

2. Do you believe that the charge of attempted murder a bit too harsh? I ask this because even though she did try to shoot the barber, shouldn't she institutionalized or is that an oversimplification? It seems that despite the story first degree murder would be a bit harsh. What counts as first degree murder compared to say, second degree attempted murder? I know about the levels of crime, but I need to understand what would count as more minor since to me, murder is murder despite the level of degrees.

3. If she were to sue the barber, would she still be out of line? Would suing the hairdresser for a bad haircut be too extreme unless it affected her career?

4. Do some women, IYHO, spend way too much time or energy on our hair? In other words, why is that some women place self-esteem as a reason to have their hair done, which seems so shallow to me (especially in case of being dating or marriage material?) Some women I feel go to extremes trying to look presentable and their hair is no different. I wonder if the attempted criminal was that way or am I being wrong here. My point is, do some women focus too much on looks instead of other things that can be a boost to one's self-esteem and self-worth?
she points a gun in anger at what had to be close to point blank range and pulls the trigger 3 times -- and your asking if it warrants an attempted murder charge ? .. its sure not attempted assault with candy floss .. of course she attempted to murder him ..unless she can prove she put duds in the gun to scare the pants of him

I guess I am wondering if there was premeditation and I ask this on a need to know basis. Why did she blame the barber if she got a different haircut, but not from him? That is just scary that she would do this.

She brought a gun to the location, I would personally count that as premeditation. I'm no lawyer but the idea that someone thought "I need to pick up a gun before I go back and try to kill this guy" sounds like premeditation to me.

Of course it is premeditation.

She went back to the barber on her own. She brought a gun on her own. She pulled the trigger on her own.

All these actions, require premeditation.

I stand corrected. This was just an interesting story because, it makes me wonder why some people would desire to harm someone else over a bad haircut. Whatever happened to fistfights (just kidding) or being diplomatic? At least diplomacy wouldn't end up putting one in jail. I agree about the premeditated murder charge but I guess there is a line between someone who is crazy and someone who is evil. On the other hand, she would be considered both.

She could also not be mentally ill at all, nor evil at all. She could have very bad anger problems and wanted to fabricate an "excuse" to try and kill the barber, for one. There could be many things at play here.
