The Pope's statements regarding refugees easily contradict this verse:

That does not mean you should not help when you can and help alleviate suffering does it?

Do you heed your own advice? Do you always help the homeless when you see them on the street corner?

I don't think that it's the responsibility of our nation to take in everyone who wants to come into our Country.

I usually give money if I have it. I volunteer, etc. Listen, this is about someone twisting Scripture in our forum and doing it to say the Pope is wrong. Not allowed and he got called on it. You cannot debate in here either. Cherry picking Scripture while throwing out the message is fruitless. Wanna fellowship? You are more than welcome but you can't debate here.

2 John 1:10-11
If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house, and do not give him a greeting;11for the one who gives him a greeting participates in his evil deeds.

1st thing - a greeting must be further explained.
Its not 'Hi, how are you?' its more like 'Come in, and bring what you have'...ie heresy.
This about the teachings, not about crossing countries.
But, i appreciate the effort.

Read your posts. Using Scripture out of context and then proclaiming Muslims are cursed by God? The gift of salvation is available to them and the whole world as well should they choose to take it. Remember that in Scripture?
Where are you getting that idea from?

Yes, the gift of salvation is available to them but until they take it they are accursed.

I am totally for the WOP system.
Back in the day Italians came 'with out papers'...but were accounted for, and became tax payers.
Todays world is red tape - and too much of it.
I am against illegally coming to a country and soaking everyone on the system...
I believe in doing it correctly to become a legitimate and accounted for citizen...
Constingency based on 'war time' that anyone an enemy of the state may not enter.
Muslims were not being persecuted in the ME - the Christians were.
But who became refugees?
a HAH...so i am suspicious of every PC government world wide.

As for the Pope, being from S.A. he may have concerns for the ppl he sees surrendering to poverty.
He is entitled to his opinion on whom is helpless, but we are to help those who are truly helpless.
Yet not enemies, i suspect who want to kill us.

Christ doesn't expect us to help everyone in need. It's not possible. Jesus said, "The poor you will always have with you".

That verse isn't an excuse for us to have an ambivalence to the sufferings of the poor. It's a direct reference to this:

The land will never lack for needy persons; that is why I command you: “Open your hand freely to your poor and to your needy kin in your land.” (Deuteronomy 15:11)

Jesus also said,
"Give to everyone who asks of you" (Luke 6:30)

So, once again, I reject the premise of the OP.

You know why don't you? :) I'm a convert. Remember? :D

Seriously this type of wrangling I do not miss at all. I miss some things but this? This is the wall I hit over and over again that made me feel I needed to look further.

Which wall?
The disagreements or the Pope's opinion vs teaching.

he is correct to state we should help.
He may not be correct in whom is in need of true help.

As i said, back in the day WOP allowed immigrants into the bay of NY.
The red tape - something i continuously disagree with, is somehow a 'big issue'.

And I'm opposed to refugees, based on having a lot of ppl we are not taking care of now and moreover; the danger of allowing an enemy into a country at war.
I believe the Pope believes them to be the Christian refugees - perhaps who are being slaughtered in the M.E.
So i do not believe he is wrong, but i think discernment needs consideration.

The Pope specifically said that refugees should be taken in without regard to their religious beliefs.

Then he is of the opinion.
He is teaching correctly, but cannot state whom is in need, thats conjecture based on opinion.

There may be some Muslims who are not harm intent. But during a war, there must be a precaution.
Besides, why doesn't the neighboring Saudi take them in?
Hmmm?

Looking at Europe - and all the rape and murders, I find it more beneficial keeping them out.
