Thinking about my Christian friends and family; just about every one of them has some sort of serious affliction.

My sister just had a total hysterectomy and is a very devout Christian. My best friend has diabetes. Others have horrible afflictions ranging from Fibromyalgia to gout.

Seems my Facebook is full of people needing prayer every day for another surgery or doctor visit.

Their ages range from 35 to 65.

I'm pretty healthy. I'm overweight and am technically a "disabled vet" due to a hearing loss and shoulder injury while serving. But, my blood pressure is normal, I feel pretty good just about every day, and am active and happy. I'm often mistaken for being in my 30's rather than my actual 47. Most people can't believe I'm a grandpa...

How about you guys?

Are you healthy? If so, then why? Young or do you eat healthy and work out? Good genes?

Oh, and a picture of me and my grandson...

Health is a perception. Not experiencing any symptoms at the moment does not mean you are necessary "in perfect health".

So what criteria are we using? I am not under a doctor's care or on any prescription medications. I do see a chiropractor but not as often as I should. I also wear glasses and my prescription changes periodically. My blood pressure hasn't hit "hypertensive" yet, but it isn't under 120/80 anymore (normal). However, I am savvy enough to know that if I went into the doctors office for a complete work up, I might not be declared "in perfect health". In fact, I know which blood work I would like to see the numbers on but really don't see any reason to go to the doctor at this time.

And once your sister had a hysterectomy, she is most likely cured of whatever issues required the surgery. Hysterectomies just result in forced/early menopause but menopause is a "normal" state for all women eventually. That is not a life long illness but rather a fairly "normal" procedure for many women. Diabetes that is managed well isn't necessarily a sign of bad health. And the same for a lot of other chronic conditions. They just require a modification of lifestyle ... usually a modification to the kind of life style we all should be living.

Wow, you do look like in your 30s!

I don't have health complaints so far. Absolutely nothing.....

But recently, I'll have occasional abdominal pain. Thank God, they would go away completely. My abdomen is also bloated like I didn't had before.

I'm pretty sure it's the crappy food from the canteen which the company I work for is giving us. I already resigned from that company a week ago. Makes you wish Christ is here now. So many people suffering from injustices because of the love of money.... Only Christ can change the status quo.

:cheer: Congrats on your health and survival!

How about you guys?

I'm pretty healthy and for most of my life. The Uncle I never met died from cancer, my grandpa had diabetes, my dad has MS, my mom has a LOT wrong with her health wise, my sisters not so much at all. A depression battle here and there, but that's as far as it goes. None of us needed pills for that, however, I didn't let my parents know I ever battled with it. God helped me through that nearly took my life. My perception changed after that and got much better just from seeking Him and building that relationship.

Now, I do have a bad knee (too much pressure on it really hurts, sometimes just going up the stairs. All 3 of us girls have this gene). The doctor says to do squats to help strengthen it every day, which actually does help. So I have put that into my daily routine, or try to.
I also have ripped muscles in my sides. I was a very energetic kid and would compete against schools every year. I was a good runner and high jumper. One day something just didn't feel right and some days just experience outright pain out of nowhere in my sides. Then it was gone. I lived with that for 6 years and every year it got worse and has put me in the hospital twice. Though one was because I was severely stressed.
Upon 3 doctor visits and trying to convey what I thought was going on, I was denied twice and sent home. 3rd time was the charm though as a recent episode hit and, finally, I was able to paint a clear picture as to what I really thought was going on. I knew it was a muscle problem and I needed a reference to see a physiotherapist. She sent one straight away! :D
And sure enough, the Physiotherapist said I had scar tissue as pillars in my sides. I was just happy I got the help I needed. :)

I've been blessed with good health, for the most part. However, my BP consistently measures pre-hypertensive (130-140/80), despite efforts to try to bring it down (without medication). And I'm slightly overweight, but I exercise regularly, and maintain a pretty healthy diet.

It feels like the biggest issue for me right now, is my diet starts to go south when I get busy. When I don't take the time to pack a lunch, I end up eating cafeteria or vending machine food at work, which doesn't have many healthy options.

I didn't know mental health was included. But yeah, depression here and there too. Sometimes, I fail to deal with my difficult living situation. I cry until it hurts and then I stop crying!

I did think of health as an overall condition, so yes, mental health would be included :) When you think about it, it's actually a huge part in overall health.

I'm sorry about your living conditions. I know it's getting worse and worse as years go by for everyone, but I certainly do hope something good happens from it

I battled depression from the age of 16 but praise the Lord he set me free. I am now 35.

I know many people who did not survive this.

Satan is an enemy who wants to steal, kill and destroy. The key is knowing the wiles of the enemy, and proclaiming victory in Christ.

I'm grateful for good health. I've never been one to exercise much, I don't run or jog or anything. I was really active in high school playing baseball, pickup basketball games, riding bikes a lot, kayaking and all kinds of things like that. I've been fortunate to live without any disabilities, diseases or syndromes.

The only medication I've ever been on was Sertraline HCI for depression. March of `98 while living in Idaho my ex-wife insisted I do something about being grouchy. Everybody gets grouchy in Idaho in March due to the weather, LOL...

I took it daily until about a year ago. I've been just fine without it, but I also understand the struggles of depression. My mom is on a couple of different medications for it and has really struggled for decades. When my little brother died, it was touch and go for a while with her.

Is it some how more noble to struggle through an issue alone than seek help? especially when it is readily available? Why is "taking medicine" often viewed as a weakness?...especially for mental health?...(I would think the brain is one of the most important organs to take care of).

In terms of injury and disease, yep, I've been extremely lucky. I've never taken a prescription or antibiotics, never broken or sprained anything, never had to stay in a hospital, no food allergies or intolerances. I'm sure it's partly genetic. I don't even know my doctor's name. Though that's probably not a good thing. ^_^

In terms of being in good shape, not so much. I eat pretty well, but I need to make a commitment to exercise more.

Resident health freak here. I'm pretty healthy. I still get colds and such, usually due to stress from overwork, which I'm trying to correct. But I eat whole foods, organic when possible, avoid gmo foods, and exercise regularly. So when I kick the stress from overwork terrible habit, I'll be golden, right into my golden years!

Physically I am probably healthy (haven't been to a doctor in a good 10 years.)

Mentally, I'm not. Bouts of severe depression, and suicidal anxiety. Not to mention self esteem damage from being rejected as a young child, and a whole other host of problems.

Not to mention language problems. I actually was heavily tested by mental health care doctors as a kid. All they could say was that my mind was off, and I was a strange kid who didn't seem to respond well to nurturing and love, lol.

Of course I know there are worse horror stories out there.

Physically and mentally I am unhealthy. Many health problems (physical and mental) run through both sides of my family.

Diabetes, breast cancer, anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, IBS, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure, and Crohn's disease are all extremely common for us and most of those appear in nearly every family member on both sides.

I have trouble with motivating myself to cook so I don't eat the best diet, but I try to do well. I have cut out soda and most added sugar, and drastically reduced my consumption of fast food. I eat a lot more fresh vegetables now, and I feel much better even though I haven't lost a single pound (I gained a lot of weight after starting a medication and I am now thinking I'll never be able to lose it. I've been eating better for about a year now with absolutely no change in weight).

Because I have very little energy I don't do much exercise, but I try to walk at least 5 or so miles a day and I have a pedometer that helps me achieve that goal.

Very bad genes, not so great lifestyle.

Why were you rejected as a child? That's terrible. I'm really sorry.
