Seems it is more a political board with undertones of Christianity. But not much. All I see is talk of politics and accusations of racism. I do not deny that it exists. But I think that politics needs to be banned in the faith forums altogether. We have a political section outside the faith forums that anyone is free to participate in. We do not need politics on faith forums because discussion of the faith is left in favor of arguing politics. It has done nothing to add to the feeling of community in OBOB. We need to get our priorities in order. Let the faith forums be faith discussions and fellowship. Let the political forum outside the faith forums be for that purpose.

I agree with this... Only if we can get a political subforum for Christians only. The Politics section under Discussion and Debate allows non-Christians, and as such, it's full of mockery and anti-Christianity. For those of us Christians that would like to discuss politics in light of the faith, that makes it hard to do and very unwelcoming. Frankly I don't know why we allow non-Christians to post here at all other than to ask questions about our faith(s).

Yeah but there are many that claim faith and still mock. Look at LWU's flu thread. Seriously, it is like people are not entertained unless they are starting crap.

Yes, well, claim is the key word there.

OK - now play nicely folk !

Anyone would think you were almost at the end of Lent and exhausted from Fasting strictly.

Could we please stop this sniping at each other ?

In Christ !

She wasn't being racist. She was stating a real problem we have in this country with people who abuse the system, who are almost always minorities. That's a plain and simple fact. For someone that doesn't like being called a Jew hater, you're quick to throw out "racist!!!"

Michie: It appears that the exact issue that you are spotlighting has shown up in this very thread! The absurdity of it is enough to make one laugh and cry at the same time.

I blame it on two things: the political and election season, which is now almost continuous; and the desire of more and more people to polarize every issue and demonize every opponent. Like right here, right now.

Good luck trying to curb it.

Thanks Martinius. I understand people feeling strongly on issues they are passionate about. I just think unless clergy is speaking out on a political situation, it has no business in a faith forum. This board is absolutely weighed down with politics and labels. Faith is in the background and secular issues are in the forefront. The place has lost its vision. And as far as blaming it on the election season... That has been done for years. It is not the election season it is the same pattern that has been played out over and over again daily. I have just come to the conclusion that the reason there is no sense of community here and very little discussion of faith is because everything is politicized and labeled. Politics has no reason to be in the faith forums when we have a huge poisonous political forum offered here for people that want to play that way. Faith is being left in the dust for politics anymore. It stinks. And that is why we have these ridiculous cliques with a pile on mentality. It does not foster community and edification. This place is dying for a reason as I think it is staring us square in the face.

I feel like I've been saying this ever since I started posting on this website (not just this part of it). There are some people for whom their politics precede their religion, rather than proceeding from it. If I did not know better (say, I didn't know anything about Christianity) and I looked at this website, I would have to conclude that being a Christian has mostly to do with your political stances on a very limited number of wedge issues that, not coincidentally, coincide with views most often found in the two major United States political parties. (And, having come to that conclusion, I would also conclude that I could not be a Christian at all.)

You nailed it. The witness here is nothing to be proud of. The place needs an overhaul. It really does. It has lost its vision.

that reason is a very old one, but the problem's current face is not what you think.
It's not politics, it's $$$.

Well if money is the bottom line then we are doomed. But all this politicizing needs to stop inside the faith forums.
