Deeper Fellowship within the Written Word
What the Bible says are the excuses used for not recieving Christ

Excuse #1 ~ not being able to understand:
they are too full of themselves to recieve having been blinded by their own thoughts, not willing to set aside their own will or willing to believe so as to come to an understanding (placing oneself as a child before Him)
1 Corinthians 2:14
Those who are unspiritual do not receive the gifts of God’s Spirit, for they are foolishness to them, and they are unable to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
John 7:17
Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.
Romans 3:11
there is no one who has understanding,
there is no one who seeks God.
Proverbs 3:5
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not rely on your own insight.
Hosea 6:3
Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord;
his appearing is as sure as the dawn;
he will come to us like the showers,
like the spring rains that water the earth.”
Psalm 25:14
The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.

Excuse #2 ~ Fear of not being able to stand firm until the end:
Not knowing that God Himself will help them and is able to guard them so they will not perish, because they are guarded by the Power of God
Isaiah 41:10
do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God,
hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Do not fear,
I will help you.”
Jude 24
Now to him who is able to keep you from falling, and to make you stand without blemish in the presence of his glory with rejoicing,
John 10:28
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand.
1 Peter 1:5
who are being protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
2 Timothy 1:12
and for this reason I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know the one in whom I have put my trust, and I am sure that he is able to guard until that day what I have entrusted to him.
2 Corinthians 12:9
but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” So, I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Philippians 1:6
I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ.

Excuse #3 ~ The conduct of too many is just too corrupt to be a part of:
Know that everyone Will have to give an account of himself before God so judging now is vanity, you being one who judges also
Romans 14:10
Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister?[a] Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.
Romans 14:12
So then, each of us will be accountable to God.
Matthew 7:1-2
“Do not judge, so that you may not be judged. 2 For with the judgment you make you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get.
James 4:12
There is one lawgiver and judge who is able to save and to destroy. So who, then, are you to judge your neighbor?
Romans 2:1
Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things.

Excuse # 4 ~ You are hindered by your business affairs:
when your soul is required of you it waits for nothing, so forfiet your love of money and earthly treasures/pleasures
Luke 12:20-21
But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ 21 So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.”
1 Timothy 6:9-10
But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.
Mark 8:36
For what will it profit them to gain the whole world and forfeit their life?
Matthew 6:19
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] consume and where thieves break in and steal;
Ecclesiastes 5:10
The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity.
Proverbs 22:1
A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
and favor is better than silver or gold.
Proverbs 16:8
Better is a little with righteousness
than large income with injustice.
Excuse #5 ~ Hindered by pleasures:
Love of those things that are here today and gone tomorrow only results in corruption and emnity with God to which you will have to give an account in full.
Galatians 6:7-8
Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for you reap whatever you sow. 8 If you sow to your own flesh, you will reap corruption from the flesh; but if you sow to the Spirit, you will reap eternal life from the Spirit.
Matthew 12:36
I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter;
1 John 2:15-17
Do not love the world or the things in the world. The love of the Father is not in those who love the world; 16 for all that is in the world—the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, the pride in riches—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 And the world and its desire are passing away, but those who do the will of God live forever.
James 4:4
Adulterers! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Excuse #6 ~ and then there's just the plain foolishness of the unbeliever:
The foolishness of the unbeliever:
a fool in not believing the scriptures as being inspired by God for the purpose of having our life in Him as He is in the Word
Psalm 53:1
Fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, they commit abominable acts;
there is no one who does good.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is inspired by God and is[a] useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
2 Peter 1:20-21
First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Acts 17:28
For ‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said,
‘For we too are his offspring.’
Excuse #7 ~ and lastly the end result of those who flatout reject God:
In having to give an account God's wrath falls upon them because they choose not the remedy for their disease.
John 3:36
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God’s wrath.
Hebrews 4:13
And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.
Proverbs 29:1
One who is often reproved, yet remains stubborn,
will suddenly be broken beyond healing.
Hebrews 10:28-29
Anyone who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy “on the testimony of two or three witnesses.” 29 How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by those who have spurned the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which they were sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace?

The Written Word

in essence the written word is the breath of God that proceeds from His mouth, Christ is His living Word and scripture is His written word. The living word's breath is the Holy Spirit and His word is spirit.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,
Matthew 4:4
.. “It is written,
‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
John 20:22
When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 6:63
It is the spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

Thank you so much Father that you are in fact present in your word as we prayerfully read, thank you for the understanding that feeds our spirit :amen:

As to the origin of the written word, the bible has this to say
2 Peter 1:20-21
First of all you must understand this, that no prophecy of scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 because no prophecy ever came by human will, but men and women moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
Hebrews 1:1-2
Long ago God spoke to our ancestors in many and various ways by the prophets, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son,whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom he also created the worlds.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
We also constantly give thanks to God for this, that when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word but as what it really is, God’s word, which is also at work in you believers.
Revelation 22:6
And he said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true, for the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent his angel to show his servants what must soon take place.”

Thank you also Lord that you have given us the content in your written word for our edification. may we be blessed as we read and listen to you in it
Luke 24:44
Then he said to them, “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you—that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled.”
John 17:17
Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.
Philippians 2:16
It is by your holding fast to the word of life that I can boast on the day of Christ that I did not run in vain or labor in vain.
1 Thessalonians 1:6
And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for in spite of persecution you received the word with joy inspired by the Holy Spirit,

And may we also Lord be blessed according to the revealation that the sum of the old testament is a revealing of yourself Lord Jesus. Luke 24:27 and also sanctify us for your purpose according to your word, Ephesians 5:26 :amen:

Ephesians 6:17
Take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Hebrews 6:5
having tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come,

The power of the spoken word:
Christ is the logos, the living constant word, while the spoken word is the rhema, an instant word, applied to our situations John 4:4 cleansing Ephesians 5:26
The sword, the spirit and the word are one, ready to be spoken by the spirit (the constant word becoming the instant word) to defeat the enemy in our daily walk. Be prayerful and watchful, staying the ground, alert and not as one who sleeps.
Is this not the taste of the good word and of the powers of the age to come whereby we can move on to the meat of the word and not remain in the milk as is needed for babes in Christ?

Hebrews 4:13 There is no creature that isn't manifest before Him, but all things are laid bare to the eyes of Him of whom we have to do.

Revelation is God opening our eyes to our intentions and deepest thoughts in our being as God sees them. Just as we are naked and bare before Him, we are laid naked and bare before ourselves. Revelation is seeing what the Lord sees. Knowing what is soulish and what is spiritual is simply to answer to Him when we have a revelation because it will bring us to our knees.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Whenever we're able to discern thoughts and intentions of the heart, we are able to divide soul from spirit.
To be useful we have to let the word of God divide our soul from our spirit and give the soul into submission to the Power of the Holy Ghost.
Even our natural abilities that are good and that can cause pride need to come under the submision of our spirit and into the control of the Holy Spirit so that He can use them and they will not fight against Him.

The revelations of His Word that He places on our hearts, places light on our hearts and we need to allow it to shine so as to be useful to God.
It brings us to the Lord's judgement according to His standards and according to our true self.
Once the light shines on these things we will never be decieved again. We will know that "this is my soul" The spirit and the soul are distinquished one from the other and we've discovered our inner self.
The things seen under the light that are not compatable with or controlled by God will be rejected again and again when words, things, intentions of similar nature arise, and as we disconnect from these things,(the workings of the mind, emotions and will separated from God) and move from glory to glory, as the mirror becomes clearer
Acts 9:18
And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and his sight was restored...

When Paul saw the light of Jesus shining on him and realised who he was in relationship to whom he was persecuting he immediately fell down.
As soon as God shows us our true condition, we fall. With every revelation He gives us in His word that divides spirit from soul, that part of the worldly self withers and dies.
The impression from the revelation remains and what was once a thing of pride becomes filthy and evil.
When we see it as God sees it we can only accept His judgement and His view of the matter as the correct view.
Beneath the noblest goals we discover base and ugly motives and plans made for ourselves.
Before Paul fell he had a plan for everything and was confident for everything. After exposure he was ashamed and dare not lift up his head.

We need healing of the soul and we need to place our spirit where it belongs with the Lord, building our new heavenly foundations and detaching from earthly things. Foundations that will stand firm in our walk with Jesus, being in the light as He is in the light that shines from God and reveals us to ourselves so that we can move from glory to glory. Having faith in the character of Him (read Matthew 5- Matthew 7 how it is His character that defines the kingdom) His character becoming our character, which is the hope in the things yet unseen. We are in this world, living in the spirit, and yet not of the world, that which is soulish or fleshly.

Are there other reasons brought to mind that can be thought of as something that hinders someone from coming to an acceptance of Christ in their lives?

I don't know if you stated it in your listings, but pride, self-confidence, and blindness are factors, I see (note 1 Cor. 1:18; 2 Cor. 4:3-4; Heb. 6:4-6 , and such other verses) that seem to show that there is a point where one who is not of the elect by the foreknowledge of God, will continue opposing God, and fall away and be lost for eternity. Only God knows who these are, so saints of God need to continue preaching Christ to all we meet ---right?.

Yes, thank you for bringing up the doctrine of predestination as a factor that could hinder one from accepting Christ. However God does not leave it as mysterious to those who care to establish themselves as one would think.
"Whosoever will may come"
whosoever is unlimited. All mankind are rendered savable, yet only those will respond whom God calls to Himself thru His efficacious grace
2 Peter 1:10
Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
The child of God who grows in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and who submits himself to God and his Father thru Jesus Christ, has evidence within himself that he/she is a child of God.
God, in infinate grace, called us out of night into His Love, out of death into His life, and set us apart unto Himself, not because of what we are, but because it suited God's eternal, soveriegn purpose so to do.

Are there reasons that come to mind that can be thought of as something that helps someone to come to accept Christ in their lives as their personal Savoir?:
1- God's love for us manifested in Jesus His Son.
2- Christians love for other people in their life.
3- God's forgiveness of our sins through Jesus sacrifice on the Cross.
4- Christians forgiving other people even if they don't deserve it or accept it.

The work of the cross is to divide.

When speaking about the division of soul and spirit, that which is dark from that which is light, it must been seen in the context of the dividing that takes place at the cross.

The light divides from darkness: God's light (His word) exposes the real condition that is hidden deep within. Light doesn't cleanse; it reveals. The more that a person yields to the light that shines upon the path, (the more that Love is recognized in the revealing), the more the light shines again upon the path. In yielding yet again to light the more Love shines further light on the path. And so growth occurs perpetually. Former things are found to be worthless. The true evaluation of our old nature is received and the disappointments revealed and the repentance accomplished bring us to the dividing power of God's cross. The same power that divided the light from the darkness at creation also uses the same power for His New Creation
Romans 6:6
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Romans 6:11
Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Galatians 5:24
And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
Galatians 6:14
But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
Colossians 2:20
Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations-

Only the cross can divide from the darkness which lies beneath, even tho that darkness is pitch black no longer because of the new creation coming forth; it's now divided into morning and evening as we continue on into the fullness of the day, which will be when there is no longer night.

Identifying with Christ's death detaches us from that which is "beneath."

Being regenerated doesn't mean that the soul, flesh and the world can't still have a tight hold. Yet to reckon oneself dead with Christ, we will become that divided person. The mark of the cross is upon us. God's light has led us into self-judgment, self-judgment brings us to the cross, through which we receive cleansing and deliverance.

In believing in Him He becomes our Lord, His accomplishments are ours. When we believe in Him as our Savior He divides that which is from below, from that which is from above thru the way of the cross. Subtlely and effectively the detachment from things below is accomplished as the mind is set on things above.
John 8:23
He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
2 Peter 1:4
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

So what now do we need to become rooted in the truth and to become fruitbearers? Or does the question answer itself...
Romans 4:25
who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
Romans 5:10
For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

And on the 3rd day He was raised

The work of the cross is to divide.

I tink I might disagree wid yah; a little bit; sister Cassia (said in my best ex-Minnesotan accent) iffen yah don't mind.

The work of the cross is and always needs to be proclaimed: redeeming our souls.

It's the Word that divides; soul from Spirit; us from the world; the truth of Jesus' redeeming sacrifice from the lies of the Devil. Here is a message from Jerry Garrard of the SBC Life Journal that explains this; better then I could.

okay , :) I begs to differ also (while at the same time agreeing) kinda in a yah-but way ;)

The Word of God does divide between soul and spirit, exposing the intent of the heart. But Who is the Word of God, not of letter but of Spirit? This is what He says about His coming
Matthew 10:34-36
34 “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. 35 For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law’; 36 and ‘a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.’

The sword, the Word of God, we are given as armour. Speaking forth of the Word of God
Ephesians 5:17
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;

The division of the cross here is that of those who respond to the message of the cross. It also causes division within because the cross exposes like that of the surgeon's scapple or the priest's knife.
At Christ's dedication at the temple Simeon prophesied to Mary that her child will cause a sword to pass through her own soul. The sword pierced her soul at the cross.
Those who follow Jesus must pick up the cross daily to follow Him.
Luke 2:35
(yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul also), that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

It's the message of the cross that cuts deep within. To honestly gaze upon it causes the division within that divides us from our own self-righteousness.
The sword, the word of God, the Spirit and the cross of Christ kills. The cross kills in order to make alive.
Deuteronomy 32:39
‘Now see that I, even I, am He,
And there is no God besides Me;
I kill and I make alive;
I wound and I heal;
Nor is there any who can deliver from My hand.

The prophesy of Simeon was that the child, by the way of the cross, is set for the falling (the killing) and the rising (the resurrection) of many in Israel
1 Corinthians 1:18
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
Colossians 1:20
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

Sorry, I should have included the full quote of Simeon's prophesy to perhaps make more sense in context
Luke 2:34 Then Simeon blessed them and said to Mary, his mother “This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, 35 so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too.”

Hosea 6:3
Let us know, let us press on to know the Lord;
his appearing is as sure as the dawn;
he will come to us like the showers,
like the spring rains that water the earth.”
Psalm 25:14
The friendship of the Lord is for those who fear him,
and he makes his covenant known to them.

Excuse #2 ~ Fear of not being able to stand firm until the end:
Not knowing that God Himself will help them and is able to guard them so they will not perish, because they are guarded by the Power of God
Isaiah 41:10
do not fear, for I am with you,
do not be afraid, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my victorious right hand.
Isaiah 41:13
For I, the Lord your God,
hold your right hand;
it is I who say to you, “Do not fear,
I will help you.”

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] consume and where thieves break in and steal;
I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter;
They are corrupt, they commit abominable acts;
there is no one who does good.

In the previous post it was hopefully shown that the effect of Christ's station in the heavenlies is the perfecting of the conscience ( as we boldly present ourselves to the throne of Grace thru prayer)

Hebrews 9:14
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!
Hebrews 10:21-23
21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
22let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;…
and also
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Psalms 51:10
Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

I believe that He washes away our confessed sins so that we can have a clean slate to be of even more use to Him. (Pick up our cross daily and follow Him, as He was with the Father.)
His chastisements are His means of bringing us near so to that we can receive cleansing.
Psalm 32:1-4
How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered!
How blessed is the person to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit!
When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away
Through my groaning all day long.
For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;
My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah.
Hebrews 10:22
let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

Thank you Lord that we have boldness and confidence of access, unashamedly knowing You in whom we have believed, convinced that You are able to guard that which is entrusted to You Christ Jesus. Grant us today and everyday the diligence needed so as to realize with full assurance of hope and in having faith that Your word for us is truth. You are faithful and righteous to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness as we come to you to confess our sins. Thank you that You are seated at the right hand of God from where our sins, tho they be as scarlet are made white as snow. Please Lord renew a right spirit within. Amen
