Thank you so much, Com7fy8! That makes sense. And I'm probably guilty of that at times, using God because He has the control.

But in this context, when I said I know God is in control and then mentioned 'wrong side of history', my mind was more feeling like I am wrong or I doubt my interpretation of what God wants. For example, 'if He is in control, why does x, y z seem to be happening?'. One might respond, 'because of free will of man' and that 'the world will always counter God'. But another response might be 'because this is what God wants'. But maybe this is the same thing as using God?

For example, many aspects of our society including many Christians and churches have arrived at ideas on issues which I have interpreted, or what I thought was conviction, of being incorrect by God's standards. An example of this is living a homosexual lifestyle, what I thought I knew or was convicted as being not what God had in mind for relationship and marriage. But maybe that's not correct, it's basically the same as any marriage with God after all. And He being in control, is bringing about much of what is happening in that arena today.

The homosexual/transgender issue is a hot issue in my family and always simmering there below the surface. I don't bring it up and try to just live as an example without judgement of others lives, as we all fall short and no one is without sin. And I continually fall short in being an example as well. But it still feels like there are 'sides to be taken' at the end of the day, when the situation is brought before me and am asked.
For now, it certainly seems like God is on the "wrong side" regarding that issue. Or, if your viewpoint is different, the "right" side.

But the truth is that God does not take sides in petty human conflicts. He has His convictions and will and they never change. A lot of the homosexual debate is guessing what God thinks through just a few Bible verses. (The less Bible verses you have, the more you can debate on the semantics). It's probably best to remember in that big conflict that God expects you to behave in a Christ-like way more than He wants you to follow a rule. I'm not excusing homosexuality, but remember that the creator of the universe is willing to forgive a persons' sins if they have faith. In the meantime, let the controversy die down. With abortion, once it became clear that certain people would always not like it, others stopped pressuring other people about it. Gay marriage might be a bit harder to calm down about since the left portrays it as a humanitarian issue rather than a sexual one, but I can assure you that if you just sort of stick with it quietly, everyone else will sort of overlook it.

The Bible - what I believe is our most objective source of what God wants of us - speaks of God's perfect will and his permissive will. (The scriptures don't give them the titles "perfect" and "permissive"; it's just helpful language for describing what is seen in the Bible.) We know God's perfect will is there should be no murder, yet in his permissive will he allowed murder of his own son. So even though God in his sovereignty - his ultimate control - has allowed the U.S. Supreme Court to define marriage differently than God does, it is not an indicator he agrees with it.

Hope this helps.
