2016 is going to be an incredible year!
... the last year for the Obama presidency
... the last year before Hillary retires permanently
... the last year for Obamacare
... the last year for the IRS
... the last year before ISIS is destroyed

Does anyone take this seriously? The only thing factual was it was the last year of Obama's presidency.

What a clown.

Yeah, sounds like he is trying to out trump Trump. Reminds me of the 2012 Republican nominations: "Last train to crazy town...all aboooaaaard!"

What a clown.
Much to the horror of a great many people here, Cruz's comments are taken seriously by a great many people, even those who do not support Cruz as their favourite candidate for the Republican nomination.

The clowns are those who don't realise that the nation has Obama fatigue.

While it'd be nice if someone actually could make it happen...the 'last year of the IRS' thing is an empty promise.
Remains to be seen. Obama has consolidated so much presidential power that the next president will be able to do things considered unthinkable just a few years ago.

The IRS has been in existence for a relatively small part of the nation's history ... has badly abused its powers ... and come to be despised by most taxpayers.

It is really hyperbole. Nobody is going to get rid of the IRS. Government revenue is actually too large for that. The GAO could not handle it with present staff.

What is really being spoken of is the removal of the tax code compliance/enforcement branch of the IRS by use of either a flat tax or value added tax (or a combination thereof). i am certain that if they wanted to get rid of the entire department that it would be possible: IF the personnel were transferred to the GAO (Government Accounting Office) so that organisation could take on the non-tax code functions of the IRS (the majority of their work).

Outside of the Libertarian Wing of the Republican Party, i am not certain that any measure for real tax code reform would get any traction, no matter which party was in power. There's too many campaign contributions involved in congress 'reforming' the tax code for whatever party is in power at the time.

I hope it's Obama's last year. After everything he's gotten away with I know I'm not the only one who has doubts he'll actually step down.

I believe there enough Senators and that might personally escort him off the White House doors if he even suggested staying one second longer. Frankly I pray for him on a regular basis. Without our prayers he might do even worse!

...even that's an empty promise by him (if that's what he meant, which I would still question)

Outside of us libertarians, the idea of abolishing income tax in favor of a sales tax isn't a very popular idea.

Far right republicans don't like it because it doesn't benefit the rich enough...and far left democrats don't like it because it doesn't punish the rich enough.

...that seems like it'd just be moving the problem from one department to another.

the IRS is still under the blanket of protection of the most powerful unions in the country that has deep pockets and ties to powerful people. IRS isn't going away anytime soon regardless of who the president is.

(my view on it at least)

The irony is that the rich don't actually pay taxes...they pass the cost on to the consumer. i shudder when i hear somebody talk about how they're going to "sock it to those rich folks!" It means hang on to your wallet little man, because they're going to make YOUR life more expensive.

Yes it would. However, most government revenue does not come from the Income Tax. That branch would go away sure, but you still need accountants and auditors to keep track of the rest of the revenue that comes into the Federal Government. Not exactly a mean task.

With the tax code compliance people gone away, a President and/or administration can no longer use the IRS as a weapon against political enemies as easily as before. Read sometime about how FDR used the IRS against Andrew Mellon. It was blatant partisan nonsense.

You're a better man than me. I hate obummer so much.
i regularly pray that he has a long, healthy, happy, prosperous life.

The Democrats got too much mileage out of a couple of dead Kennedy men, who today would be seen as having the same views as conservative Republicans generally have.

64 straight months of private sector job increases resulting in 12.8 million jobs and a deficit cut by 66%. THE HORROR!
...After first doubling the deficit. In 2008 the deficit was $459 Billion. In 2009, a combination of Obama and Bush budgets the combined deficit was $1.413 Trillion, reduced to $744 Billion in 2014, which was an increase from $680 Billion in 2013.

The 2014 figure is $185 Billion higher than Bush's last year acting alone.

So much for a 66% reduction.

Source:https://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals/ Check out the charts for yourself, it takes a lot of math to come up with the deficit figures.

As for 12.8 million new jobs, i have to wonder who is taking such jobs, because the labour force participation rate has not been as low since the early days of the Carter Administration, which was in recession inherited from the Nixon/Ford administration.

There are liars, [CENSORED] liars, and statistics.
