90% of the Atheists on this very board got that way after reading the Bible... don't get me wrong; if the woman is happier with her new life, more power to her, but this is hardly a new thing...

It means the same thing it means when anyone else says it.... to make the analogy complete, we'd need a few Muslim posters to claim that she was reading it all "out of context" and/or that she "was never a true Muslim to begin with..."

Look, I'm as happy as anyone that this woman has found peace in her life, but really, there's nothing here I haven't heard a thousand times before...

They are both typically printed on paper. Beyond that not much. However if you want to adopt the usual atheist meme of grovelling before the former while sneering at the latter, by all means be capricious.

I've come to discover that for some in these forums it doesn't matter what other religion is being discussed, if there's a way to interject an insult toward Christianity they'll do it.

Great thread by the way. I wonder how many suicide terrorists would have changed their mind were they to have read the Qur'an for themselves?

How do you know she isn't lying for Muhammad to gain the trust of Christians?

If one looks into ISIS and their ilk, one notices the emphasis on LESS education, not more. That includes reading the Quran. They want their followers to have no options for instruction/indoctrination other than what their leaders say. Therefore when "Imam So-and-so" says the Quran says such-and-such, they will have no way to check it out.

Most American Christians can read scripture and decide whether Pastor Bob is correct. Granted many don't study scripture and follow whatever they hear from somebody that they like.

Great that this woman had the opportunity to make a free choice.

Yep, a thorough study of the NT, was a major impetus in me leaving Christianity.

I would say, many folks who followed a certain religion from a young age, who later studied their religious holy book and the religion itself more objectively as they grown older, end up figuring out they were wrong about their assumptions.

It is a statement which requires no more evidence than the statement 90% of atheist on this board got that way after reading the Bible.

I would think you would know me and my posts by now and that I am not fond of Islam. But I'm not going to write off the whole religion as some baby-eating cult, as many of the same extremist views they extract from their scripture is very similar to what extremist Christians used to do, and Christianity turned out OK.

A lot of atheists and agnostics left Christianity after reading the bible. Bart Ehrman is one of North America's leading New Testament scholars and he became an agnostic while completing his studies.

The bible also contains violent verses. You mentioned the abuse of women, let's see what the bible says in regards to women.

1 Timothy 2:12 "And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence."

1 Corinthians 14:34 "Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says"

Deuteronomy 22: 20-21 “But if the thing is true, and evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones"
