Is there a book that you think should be made into a film?

Peter Jackson said he was NOT going to do the Hobbit.

Actually, he didn't say for certain he's never going to do The Hobbit. He just said that he's definitely not doing it after LOTR. I don't see the point in filming it soon either since after seeing the LOTR trilogy, The Hobbit might be a disappointment since you're basically going back and doing a less exciting prequel.

As for books I'd like to see on film, my top pick would be Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness, a book on spiritual warfare. The book is already visually stimulating in itself and I'd like to see how it gets translated on the big screen.

Neverwhere is cool too. Not for kids tho since it's kinda 'dark'. Stardust might be interesting as well.

I agree, the Mark of the Beast trilogy by Francine Rivers would be wonderful!

Francine Rivers is the one who wrote reedeeming love, right?  i'd like to see that made into a movie, it was such a good book!

I have Neverwhere and Stardust, but I haven't actually read them yet.  My sister took them from me, though, and she really liked both of them.

I think they should make The Bourne Identity into a movie.  Okay, okay, I know they already did TWICE, but they ruined both of them.  The first one, while true to the book, used a super old guy and it just wasn't fun watching all the cheesy outdated stuff in the movie.  The new one didn't have anything to do with the book, other than the name Jason Bourne.  What a disgrace! :(

I also want to see Planet of Adventure by Jack Vance, but at the same time, I really don't because they'd probably just ruin it anyway.

Also Ella Enchanted and The Two Princesses of Bamarre both by Gail Carlson Levine.  They are kids books, but really cute.  I've heard that Ella Enchanted is in the process of becoming a movie right now. :pink:

I heard a rumour they are planing to make a film of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy. They have done a stage play of it in London

That would rock!

Several Heinlein novels would make good movies, if they actually stayed true to the books, unlike all the other movies made from his work.

I agree. I watched The Bourne Identity with Matt Damon playing the role of Jason Bourne before reading the book. It's not a bad movie, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with the book.

I read Michael Chrichton's Timeline a few months ago and thought it would make an outstanding movie if it was done right. A few days after I finished reading the book, I saw a preview of the movie on TV, and I knew immediately that it wouldn't be anything like the book. The plot had been dumbed down and turned into an action movie.

I agree with Cammie that any Judy Blume books would make great movies! One Christmas as a pre-teen I received a big stack of her books as a present. That gift remains in my mind as one of my favorite presents of all time. It's a shame so many of her books are "banned".

I think any of Corrie ten Boom's books about the story of her life could make excellent movies. She has an incredible testimony and lived during such an interesting time.

One book I read a while back that I thought was great was "Contest" by Matthew Reilly I think that would make a great film!
They are making a movie of that! At least, that's what Matthew Reilly said in the 'about the author' section of one of his recent novels.

The absolute best book to make into a movie would have to be 'Magician' by Raymond E. Fiest. If you like David Eddings or Robert Jordan, they you'll love the Magician series; it spans two worlds, hundreds of years, heaps of characters, flawless connection of seemingly random events between several books. Over 15 books and still going!

They've already made The Hiding Place into a movie, I think it came out last year. :) I saw an ad for it on tv.

I think they should make Mara: Daughter of the Nile into a movie. It wasn't a deep book or anything, it's a youth/kids book. But the story was so interesting, the characters were great and it was about ancient egypt. and it has all the qualities of a great blockbuster too within the story. i would so love to script edit for this movie if they ever make it!

Rachel's tears

Awe... Not to sound any less manly by admitting this, but that book made me cry. Rachel Joy Scott... one of the famous Columbine martyrs. I wonder if they'll ever make a movie about that, seeing how that's what the two killers wanted.

As for my books, Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers would be a good one. There's also numerous Frank Perreti books like The Oath and This Present Darkness that would be fabulous if done right.

Someone already said it two years ago, but This Present Darkness would make an awesome movie. Better yet, do This Present Darkness and Piercing The Darkness, and release them a year apart. But please stay true to the book!
The Visitation was an awesome book, but I was disappointed by the movie; it was completely different.

Bravo for resurrecting an old thread, Steelersbred!
