Proverbs 9
Everyone read Chapter 9 if it is the 9th day of the month today. Come back and give us your thoughts....Tishri1 :wave:
Hi,

Again my apologies for posting early.

A question was asked here. The answer to that question is in Proverbs 9:7-9. And yes I have used this and it works great. And yes after being on the forums here and having only the ignore button, I have forgotten what God says with those types.

I am so pleased with Tishri1, for starting me back to ways of wisdom. Yes, when I knew this well and used this correctly, Proverbs 9:7-9, life was better.

Notice though, for most of you are talked about in Proverbs 9:9, what it says about you. Now, if you will read that, I will tell you this next. I am not allowed to teach, so this does not apply to me, teaching that is. Being taught does apply to me.

I will merely share my experiences, and with Wisdom being female, I have that. She used to be near me for years and years as I was learning the Bible from my teacher. Jesus, assigned a person to me, and I did not know it till after I had learned things like Proverbs 9:1, and Wisdom of chapter 8, being created first of all the items created by God. Since she was created, she did not exist at one time, and that removes many ideas about her, from being possible, such as, always was, and always will be.

Here, in Proverbs 9:5. she says come and eat, then she tells me how to handle mockers, and also how to handle the wicked, and also how to handle the wise. She continues and tells me how to get closer to God.

To me she says, Fear the Lord. But in other areas or with time, Fear losing Him by displeasing Him, maybe like in Him divorcing me for bad actions. Fear of the Lord for me started with fear of being punished, and that I think was all there was. I just didn't want to be hurt by Him, anymore.

Later fear, and it may be what it always was and always is, was my fear of hurting His feelings.

One day, several years ago, I would learn that even God The Father has feelings, just like any normal person. One day, I hurt those feelings, but I did not intend to. I remember the words I used, and they were thoughtless. In my humility that was granted to me one day, in one particular area, I told God while doing things for Him, that He had nothing for me.

He fires back: "Oh Yeah. LOVE." and it hit me in the side. I was stunned and could not move, and I was very upset, at being physically hurt by God. I still don't think anything I do or say should be able to hurt God, only God is not God, the object, the purpose the function, all the time, sometimes He is just God the person, like you or I are persons, with feelings and emotions. It is in those moments, when God can be hurt by us.

A man, studying to be a priest, once asked his superiors, his professors, Can I console the heart of Jesus? His superior then told him no, that is not possible. He was devastated, as now he had committed heresy in a paper he had written. He had written that it is possible to make Jesus feel better, it is possible to console Him, it is possible to console His heart.

Years passed. He still studied. One day, he consulted another person, a professor I think, and I don't know why. The heresy of his came up. This professor said, Of course you can console the heart of Jesus. I don't know or remember what else was said.

Still time passed after this event. And in a stunningly disturbing event to me, for the response he was given, one day later this happened to him.

He came across the professor, who had told him, that it is not possible to console the Heart of Jesus. He found a way to tell this person, what another professor had told him, in that it is possible to console the Heart of Jesus.

The talk starts, I am going to be hurt, and I was not there. "Of course you can console the heart of Jesus. I did not want you to be distracted from your Theological Studies."

OhMy. I say, the first professor Lied. I did not think it was possible for Academics to lie on purpose. He lied, in my eyes. He injured me, and he injured that man.

Later, the work of this priest, Father Gaitlyn or something like that, became a major work, and if I remember correctly, Jesus actually revealed Himself to that man, in words or some other way, but I think later. And it is in that, Jesus personally helping him out, that his work is now being used.

I have paraphrased, used my own words on some of the above, as I cannot ever remember exact words anymore.

So here is Tishri1's solution, on handling those with contentious ways. Here is also how to handle the ways of the wicked. Here also is how to get closer to God. It is to fear Him, in Biblical ways.

Later, hopefully, we will see in Proverbs how fear of The Lord, results in knowledge of The Holy One. I say, but really a request from most of you here , it is to continue fear of The Lord, with commitment, that results in eventually getting knowledge of The Lord.

Do you think that is how it works?

I say again asking for help, that it is eventually that fear that causes one to tell the truth to everyone, even about yourself, the whole truth, and always, and it is from that hardship, and pain, and commitment to that hardship and pain, that one day Wisdom says to herself: Ahah! I am convinced. They would rather die than tell a lie, and I have seen this time and time again. Let the healing begin. Here comes knowledge. Here comes the rewards.

In the meantime, while getting closer to God, she Wisdom by God, made by God, has told us how to handle mockers and the wicked.

She has also told us how to recognize the wise, and how to deal with them. It is to share what we know. We are also allowed to be pleased and stunned with them when they listen.

I don't think Christian Forums is set up to handle those items correctly. I and other have only the ignore feature, and to be sure it works. However, I would love to see them treat the mockers and the wicked the way Wisdom says to do that.

I hope, I have taught nothing, as I am actually not allowed to teach. I hope I have just shared my experiences.

My eyes are wet again. I don't know why. It is a lighter form of wetness than the other day. They are both wet.

LOVE,
...Mary., .... .

Proverbs 9 New International Version (NIV)
Invitations of Wisdom and Folly
9 Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up[a] its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls
from the highest point of the city,
4 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense she says,
5 “Come, eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of insight.”

7 Whoever corrects a mocker invites insults;
whoever rebukes the wicked incurs abuse.
8 Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you;
rebuke the wise and they will love you.
9 Instruct the wise and they will be wiser still;
teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.

10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
11 For through wisdom[b] your days will be many,
and years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you;
if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.

13 Folly is an unruly woman;
she is simple and knows nothing.
14 She sits at the door of her house,
on a seat at the highest point of the city,
15 calling out to those who pass by,
who go straight on their way,
16 “Let all who are simple come to my house!”
To those who have no sense she says,
17 “Stolen water is sweet;
food eaten in secret is delicious!”
18 But little do they know that the dead are there,
that her guests are deep in the realm of the dead.

umm ok ...

since this is titled proverbs chapter 9
and it is the 9th day down here in little new zealand .

thoughts i got from reading this today -
Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars:

well this intrigues me , this mention of seven pillars .
im looking to learn of them .

and this part -"5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.
Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding."

that made me immediately think of the lord Jesus .. the bread and the wine .. the Body and the blood .

and how he called out "oh jerusalem jerusalem.wisdom crying out ..."
and also how he read out he scroll declaring who he was and again when he stood up in the temple and cried out .....
"If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, 'From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'"… -

its just a thought i had as i read this proverb . :)

Yeah it is the 9th here in Australia too ! I could not answer this better then the old Puritan John Gill explains in his commentary about this verse ;)
she hath hewn out her seven pillars; ministers of the Gospel, compared to pillars for strength and stability, and for their being instrumental in supporting the interest and church of Christ; in allusion to the pillars in Solomon's temple, Jachin and Boaz; see Gal 2:9. These are said to be "hewn", being polished, beautified, and adorned with the gifts and graces of the Spirit by Christ, and thereby fitted for their work and service; and said to be "seven", because there is a complete and sufficient number of them, which Christ has provided, and always will provide for his churches, as long as they continue in the world. Though it may be these seven pillars may denote in general the firmness and solidity of this spiritual building, the church, and the continuance of it by the power of God; or they may have respect to the seven states of the church in so many periods of time, to last to the end of all things, signified by the seven churches in the book of the Revelation; so Cocceius

Hope this helps you

I can see this!

1 Wisdom has built herself a house; she has carved her seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her food, spiced her wine, and she has set her table.
3 She has sent out her young girls [with invitations]; she calls from the heights of the city,
4 "Whoever is unsure of himself, turn in here!"To someone weak-willed she says,
5 "Come and eat my food! Drink the wine I have mixed!
6 Don't stay unsure of yourself, but live! Walk in the way of understanding!"
Also reminds me of the parable of the kings banquet
http://www.biblestudytools.com/cjb/matthew/passage/?q=matthew+22:1-9
7 "He who corrects a scoffer only gets insulted; reproving a wicked man becomes his blemish.
8 If you reprove a scoffer, he will hate you; if you reprove a wise man, he will love you.
9 Give to a wise man, and he grows still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will learn still more.
Yes thanks Kat!
10The fear of ADONAI is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of holy ones is understanding.
11 For with me, your days will be increased; years will be added to your life.
12 If you are wise, your wisdom helps you; but if you scoff, you bear the consequences alone."
It doesn't get better than this!
13 The foolish woman is coarse; she doesn't think, and she doesn't know a thing.
14 She sits at the door of her house or on a seat at the heights of the city,
15calling to those who pass by, to those going straight along their ways,
16 "Whoever is unsure of himself, turn in here!"To someone weak-willed she says,
17 "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is pleasant."
18 But he doesn't realize that the dead are there, and that those who accept her invitation are in the depths of Sh'ol.
And then there is the counter fit.....But Jesus said my sheep hear my voice :)

I was thinking of this scripture today. Proverbs 9:7-8 reminds me of what Christ said in Mathew 7:8

Proverbs 9:7 Anyone who rebukes a mocker will get an insult in return.
Anyone who corrects the wicked will get hurt.
8 So don’t bother correcting mockers;
they will only hate you.
But correct the wise,
and they will love you.

Mathew 7:6 “Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up[a] its seven pillars.

Mathew 7:24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

Proverbs 9:2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.

John 6:54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

Great. This is the attitude we should take towards the mocker and the wicked.
Don't expect to get thanks from everyone when you try to make them realize their mistakes.
But only try to correct the wise.

I have been praying to God for months that He would give me wisdom, because unfortunately, I have examined myself and I don't think that I have much. And although He has not answered my prayer yet and given me wisdom, I don't doubt that He will in His own time. I just must be patient and wait for it.

A person who knows they lack wisdom is already wise. May we grow in Gods wisdom.

Wisdom is not something that can be obtained for a short time. Sometimes God works in a practical way, not like the way God worked on Solomon. He arranges many things for us and after we experience them, we will get wisdom from it.
Yes, some people are born clever, while some are born common. Anyway, there's God's ordination in it. In this world, very wise men are few, and most people are common. Though they're a common person, they still have the wisdom God gives them, like Adam and Eve had the wisdom to name all kinds of animals and do other things, which were not taught.
Before, I always envied the classmates who didn't need to study hard and yet got a high score. Later, I get to know that among all things created by God, there are glasses, trees, flowers, and so on. Not everyone is a big tree, and glasses are more than threes. Later, I think since I am not born outstandingly clever, I can stay in my own position and do the duty I can do as an obedient little created being. That's my happiness. If I am not content with being a small person and fight against my fate to be a big tree, I will end up being miserable. It's my little knowledge. Share it with you.
Anyway, in God's eyes, big trees and small glasses have the equal position. They're all created beings made by God. The only difference is that the duties they perform are different.
After believing in God, in things I encountered, I tried to seek God's will and thought in them, and when I had problems, I came to God for the way to solve them. I find that I was a little wise than before. Belief in God can make us wise.
However, this is just my individual experience. God has more ways to add wisdom into man. So, God may work on you by different means. Just experience it~ ^_^

From Proverbs 9, this verse has been pivotal for me and led me into the study of the book of Job (a treasure of a book)

and an absolute treasure of a verse, and the key to why God described Job as He did, in the beginning of the book of Job.

verse 10:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."

I love the contrast between wisdom and folly in chapter 9.

Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and gives insight. Wisdom will also multiply your days.
Folly knows nothing, yet is loud, and brings death. Folly whispers sweet (deadly) lies and if you follow her then destruction is your end. So, basically if you gain wisdom you will live a long life but if you go after folly then death is your reward.

Then there is this little jewel... v7-9
Whoever corrects a scoffer gets himself abuse,
Do not reprove a scoffer, or he will hate you;
reprove a wise man, and he will love you.
Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser;
teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.

Hi,

As I read this again today, what we will read comes to mind, and also what others have called my errors on Wisdom being a created Spirit that posesses wisdom and is given the job by God to teach others who will listen, rather than the personification of the characteristic wisdom, or the wisdom of Jesus Christ, as is also postulated.

As of yet, I cannot know who is right, whether it is my new teachers or my old way of reading that. If though, wisdom is the wisdom of Jesus Christ, then I think I need to find out how that can be, and be called she, and a few more things.

I just wanted my new teachers to know, their words have been heard.

LOVE,

Hi,

And yet this is here in

Proverbs 26:1-11

3 A whip for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
and a rod for the back of fools.
4 Answer not a fool according to his folly,
lest you be like him yourself.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly,
lest he be wise in his own eyes.

Although not about scoffers, when the first time I cruised through Proverbs of The Day, it made me think.

LOVE,
