So what would be involved in sponsoring a Christian refugee? Does anyone know? We are not wealthy people, but we do have a spare bedroom. We would be happy to share what we have with a brother and/or sister in Christ.

I saw online there is an organization in Germany that matches refugees with people who have spare rooms and are willing to take them in. Where is this organization for the US?

And yes, our stipulation is that the person we sponsor has to be a Christian. There is both a thriving Orthodox church and a Byzantine Catholic church very close to where I live. I think this would be a good location for a Christian refugee.

I have already addressed this on another thread. I was at first happy and excited to have Dr. Carson as a candidate, and I was supporting him AT FIRST. But no more.

He is out of tune with what the truth is and especially in his Christian (warped) beliefs.
Too many times he speaks of things in a misinformed, illogical, and error-filled manner.

We need a president with fortitude, confidence, who speaks with authority, compassion, and inspires respect, and who commands the devotion, the affection and admiration of the constituency. They will, in turn, validate his leadership by unyielding support.

We have had a few of these. Although none of them have served error-free, some that come to mind are Roosevelt, Kennedy, Lincoln, and others.

Dr. Carson cannot fit in that mold (I don't see any at present who can, and certainly not the one at present).

If these refugees were mostly Christian than I would have less concern. But they aren't. most of them are Muslims. FUrthermore, The Obama admin, is mainly admitting Muslims, and even so it's only a tiny amount. Maybe no terrorists yet, but no Christians, either.

As for Carson, he just said something that was taken out of context by the liberal media.

The part I bolded is the problem. I don't see any great option across all the candidates! There definitely are some that are better than others though.

Their Lancaster PA division is organizing homes and welcome teams for Syrian refugees. I'm guessing that they could direct you to someone who is organizing that - or you could look up your area's home office for CWS?

One of the organizations I have done work with before (that does outreach to Muslims) actually had a lot of resources and organizations listed for helping out refugees in our area here in Georgia. For more, one can go here to

My mindset, to be honest, has been that for too long we've forgotten what St. Basil has spoken on (more shared in Father Anthony speaks to President Obama: Ancient Churches & the President of the U.S) when it comes to walking out justice in our own communities - and in all realness, I do not think we'll ever develop simply looking for a presidential figure when the reality is that the people themselves have to be able to look out for themselves. Grass-roots organization and advocacy at all of the things that have been done DESPITE whoever is in office.....Hometown Security, to be truthful.

I don't think Dr. Carson is a good option, sorry.

This is coming from a Libertarian who refused to vote for Ron Paul.
Plenty of Conservatives who have noted the same for some time - including Libertarians. The policies he has advocated simply do NOT make logical sense and some of his comments have not truly been beneficial. And when his policies toward refugees are highly discriminatory as are others on the extreme right (which goes back to the OP dynamic of "calling out the politics" for what they are when seeing the long-term impact), we have to deal with it.

What Carson and Trump remind me of the most with their policies/solutions is Fascism - more shared in Donald Trump, Ben Carson and the American Fascists Among Us - The Ring of Fire

I think the issue is that both Trump and Carson are outliers, and so they're not used to toning down their views to get elected. They haven't played politics before and don't know all of the things that you aren't supposed to say--which changes every election cycle. So their views are unfiltered while others' are more filtered. I mean, look at Bernie Sanders. Does he have ZERO "extreme" ideas? Nope. But as an experienced politician, he knows that he could not get the American people to 100% support everything he might wish to do, even people who support him. So he says what he can, and the same goes for other politicians.

All that needs to change is that Carson needs to get some advisors and sort of work out a viewpoint with them to articulate, like other candidates do. Nobody bashes the President for having to get briefed on geopolitical events. He can't just know from the get-go.

I agree 100% that we can't depend on a president or presidential candidate to take care of things for us. We definitely need to take action ourselves.
