I've been off work for a few days - with some vacation days following. When I get back to work Wednedsay, if people ask me what I had - which they sometimes do - I don't want to lie BUT I don't want to be an open book either. What would you say if you didn't want to give specifics for why you had been off out sick?

I'd say "I don't even want to talk about it" and shake my head. If they persisted I would just say it's involved and nothing u really want to talk about., then start telling them about ur vacation!

People assumed I had the flu. I didn't correct them. I did tell one person I spent a little time with my niece and that I wasn't contagious at that point. I felt that was a bit dishonest on my part but I don't think they would want to tell me if they had had been off work for mental health reasons (anxiety in my case) in the reverse situation. (Thankfully that is improving and I am getting better - still not 100% honestly but it is better than it was.) My supervisor knows as does her boss and that is really all that matters. This too shall pass!

Hi glad it worked out for you. I can understand not wanting to tell people. I have depression and need to be careful as to who I share that with. I say this as I want to urge you to seek help with this if you are not already getting help. Having strategies in place for when you get anxious can make it far easier and help it to pass.
