Basically, if the yes vote passes by 66% or more, this forum will then allow posts that say gay marriage is OK and that homosexual acts are not sinful. You would also be allowed to refute those sorts of posts. If the No vote passes, then it will continue on as it already was, no promotion of homosexuality or SSM in this forum.
Talk about a compromise.

I'm saying this whole homosexual business. It shouldn't even be up for discussion. I mean, we should worry about saving souls instead of focusing on how people identify themselves by gender and who they favor sexually. Christ isn't about that. I just think this whole nonsense should stop and we should be getting back to more serious matters like church attendance declining and changes in worship.

I'm the only one who voted no. I guess I'm a sore loser.
If you have a suggestion on how to improve the married icon, I'd like to hear it or you can post it in MSC. This was the best compromise were able to come up with. Neither side is very happy with it, but a good compromise doesn't favor either side.

You can see the full discussion that lead to the change in the announcements forum.

I'm not so tee'd off about the married icon as I am about threads keep popping up about this subject. It's getting to be too much. Everywhere I look all I see are LGBT related threads.

And another thing, it's perfectly alright for homosexuality to be "promoted," and shoved down another person's throat, that's legitimate but no one can express if they're married or not? So yeah, I guess the icon does tee me off cause I'm about liberty and individual rights and expression. Pardon my ignorance I just don't understand why one point of view can be proselytized while other thoughts and ideas cannot.

I don't understand what you mean. What does the bold mean? If you are married, you can use the married tag. No one said otherwise.

On your poll in the individual forums, you say:

"There are two options for the poll:

YES: A yes vote means that there would be open discussion of the topics of homosexuality and same sex marriage, in accordance with a few specific guidelines.
NO: A no vote means that discussion of homosexuality and same sex marriage is allowed, but there is no promotion* of these topics.

*Promotion is defined as encouragement of the progress, growth, or acceptance of something including advertising and publicity."

Essentially, if the individual forums vote "yes" then "promotion" of homosexuality (i.e., advertising) is acceptable. I have an issue with that.

The rules were changed, and now they need to be changed again? Promotion of homosexuality is going to cause problems. Nothing wrong with talking about it. Nothing wrong with welcoming the LGBT community. But already there are threads popping up everywhere about this topic and I'm tired of seeing them posted everywhere.

It would only be amonh members of that forum though. Outsiders couldn't come in and bang the drum on homosexuality or SSM.

That should have been explicitly stated in the poll. You made it seemed like ALL members of Christian forums could "promote" homosexuality in the forums. I didn't see it, if you had.

It might not have been clear enough. But the safe-haven rules are not changing.

Why can't they just have their own forum, like "LGBT Chistians?"

Because there are LGBT Christians in every denomination and every church for one thing. There isn't an LGBT Church.

Also if you did so you'd basically be deciding to silence a whole group of people you don't agree with. That works for fundamentalist denominations. United Methodists believe in giving everyone a voice not just the people who agree with us or even just people who agree with the Discipline.

Every four years the Discipline is changed because people disagree with what is in it and vote to change it. Silencing differences is a sure to create stagnation. Churches that stagnate and fail to change die.

Sticking LGBT people or LGBTQ people or LGBTQ people and their allies into a segregated group is simply a way to suppress (not eliminate) differences.

I sincerely apologize. I was having an awful day. What I said and how I acted was unacceptable. I ask for forgiveness from my brothers and sisters on this forum.

No apologies necessary. I hope today is a better day!

Have you all noticed the new marriage designations? You are forced to pick between "Marriage M/W" and other options...
Actually it is Married (M/F) which to me violates the obscenity rules here. The rules state:

Profanity or foul language is not allowed. This includes using punctuations or acronyms to bypass the profanity filter...

"M/F" is a short hand way of saying a compound F-bomb term. It is #6 on George Carlin's list of "7 words you can never say on Television."

I served in the Navy and we never used the slash.
OK - maybe it was a regional thing. I grew up in the upper great lakes/Michigan/Chicago area.
