you didn't ask us with all the conditions...it isn't the distance, it is the combination of the distance and the assumption that neither one of you is capable or willing to move....

honestly, the kid is 13...she will be out of the house or at least out of that school system in about 5 years....that isn't that long really when you are just barely starting a relationship...it isn't like you will start talking and get married in 4 months...

her 5 bedroom house may not be such a big issue when there is nobody living in it except her...and to find a place halfway between might not be that bad of on issues....of course, assuming that you both never change jobs...(life often throws us curve balls that we don't expect.)...

I'd not rule out a potentially a good relationship based on distance alone...because it is such a temporary thing. (Would you have thought you'd be living in Wyoming 5 years ago?)

As for the person who assumes the driver would be the guy...well, I love to drive to just clear my head...I can do a 70 mile drive just because I had a bad day and need to do some thinking. I'd have no problem doing my share of the driving for the right person.

Yea its not safe to travel long distances esp at night.
I think if its just a one off date that would be ok and be pretty touched that a guy would travel all that way for me. But hed need to go home again and if he had work the next day prolly be exhausting.

Or maybe just date a truckie or bus driver.

During my online dating forays, I found very few, if any, potential partners within 25 miles of my location. Most were about 70 miles away. I never pursued a relationship with someone that distance because I didn't think driving an hour or more to meet for dinner or a movie was a very workable situation.

I guess if I was simply looking for a "hook up" then it would be worth driving so far... But, I want a relationship based on friendship and casual meeting to do fun activities such as sunset walks, horseback riding, shopping, etc.

Plus, most women in my demographic are established in their careers, own homes, have older kids in high school, etc which makes relocation for them a very daunting task if the relationship progresses.

I also own a home, have family nearby, and moving 70 miles away is a no-go for me.

I was recently contacted by a very nice woman via an online dating site that seems very nice, but she is 2 hours away. I don't understand how she would think how we could develop a meaningful relationship over such a distance...

What are your thoughts on the subject?

Ya, those scammers mess with everyone's mind and heart.
I thought I'd notice it immediately but they become smarter. Luckily when I go there I ask advice on cf all the time and Goodbook said those are all scammers, so I checked the picture and it was used in a lot of scam sites. Told him about Jesus. Ha! All that talking about real love, I said here I have real Love for you. Jesus loves you. Stop doing that man. He has a better plan for you.
I didn't know it was that bad. I wonder how many real people there are on these sites.

I'm glad you gave them Jesus, Messy. They do need that for sure.

I just heard of a scam where people with business accounts had people hack their accounts and transfer money out. It seems that banks don't reimburse businesses the same way they do individuals. So these people can be out a lot of money and get nothing back.

I've done the ld relationship thing - my boyfriend and I lived on opposite sides of the state - one of us traveled each weekend to the other one. We had a great time a lot of fun, and 5 years later still doing the dating thing :) It works for us

I can see it now. "I'm sick of driving all day and night, you drive. Driving feels like work."

I've always loved driving, so that's not the determining factor. Its more the time I have there after I get there.

This weekend a long distance GF and I meet at a workshop. Had a great time while the workshop was going on and also enjoyed the workshop.
