Since you allow promotion of homosexuality in certain congregational Christian areas does CF believe it is an acceptable Christian practice?

And if you do not believe it is an acceptable Christian practice, why do you allow promotion of unacceptable Christian practice in areas reserved for Christians?

While you agree that homosexual behavior is not something a Christian should be engaged in you are allowing promotion of homosexuality in some Christian areas if they agree and choose to promote it.
Why shouldn't I think CF is losing it's Christian essence?

We are allowing discussion of these topics under specific guidelines:

  • All posts must align with the sitewide rules, especially the rule about profanity and vulgarity (no discussions or images that are sexually explicit).
  • Members may not make posts which could be considered blatant campaigning for the acceptance of homosexuality or SSM.
  • Members may not distribute any blatant propaganda about homosexuality or SSM [propaganda: information of a biased or misleading nature used to promote or publicize a particular point of view].
  • Members may not encourage another member to practice homosexuality or enter into a same sex marriage.

Are same-sex wedding pictures or two men kissing a "blatant propaganda" or discussion?

That depends on how provocative the photo is and whether or not a member is spamming the thread with photos or just sharing one photo. If the photo is offensive to a member of the congregational forum in which it is posted they should report it.

If you are personally offended by photos of same sex marriages, or open discussions about homosexuality and SSM, then you might not want to read the threads in the congregational forums that allow open discussion.

That sounds very fair to me.

Re-stating the last sentence of my quote - how would you support that CF is not becoming "less" Christian in her policy making?

I personally don't really think that either of these policies makes CF more or less Christian, however, I will respond to your belief that CF policy making is making CF less Christian. I would assume that you don't believe the new CF Statement on Marriage is a policy that demonstrates that CF is becoming less Christian. I'm pretty sure you would say that this statement shows that CF is "more" Christian. You personally believe the new rule regarding homosexuality and SSM is making CF "less" Christian. If you balance the two new policies out, one is "more" Christian and one is "less" Christian. Therefore the changes balance each other out and CF is becoming neither more nor less Christian.

I have a question about references to homosexuality and homosexual marriage throughout the forums.

Whether or not it is allowable to discuss it in a particular area, is it acceptable to refer to either with terms like "sick", "repulsive", "perverted", etc?

So you allow two men kissing and wedding pictures in areas you identify as Christian. Correct?

The terms "sick" and "repulsive" would not be acceptable as they are personal judgment statements that flame/goad a group of members. The term "perverted" might be acceptable depending on the context in which it is used. There are members who may use the argument that homosexuality is a perversion of human sexuality according to Scripture. If someone calls another member or group of members "perverts", then that would be a violation.

So you allow two men kissing and wedding pictures in areas you identify as Christian. Correct?

It depends on the context, however, I think for the most part the posting of same sex couples kissing or their wedding pictures would be discouraged as it can too easily come across as campaigning for the acceptance of homosexuality and SSM.

The Liberal forum current says (correctly) that members accept homosexuality. Defense of it is only prohibited because of the old site-wide rule. Now that that rule seems to be changed, it would seem that posters in the liberal forum could now argue that the Bible does not prohibit homosexuality. Is that right, or is a formal vote required? Since the statement of purpose for the group appears to rule out anyone who would vote no, it might be easiest not to require a vote. Based on past experience, I suggest that a vote could cause serious problems, with people voting no even though they don't actually accept liberal theology, leaving moderators with a very difficult problem.

Have you thought about the practicalities of conducting votes? In the liberal forum it's pretty clear, since anyone voting no isn't part of the group. But some who use the moderate forum, and denominational forums that permit a range of theological positions might want to allow it. Opposition to homosexuality is so widespread and emotional on this site that it's going to be hard to avoid having the ballot box stuffed.

Another difficult issue is presented by the Presbyterian forum. In fact the largest Presbyterian body in the US (and in some other countries) accepts homosexuality. But conservative participants don't consider members of that body to be legitimate Presbyterians. This differs from the Lutheran group, which clearly permits the whole range of Lutherans, with subforums. How do you plan to deal with that?

Yes, they could argue that the Bible does not prohibit homosexuality. For the vote, only members of the forum are allowed to vote. Staff will be reviewing the members who vote, checking to see if they are truly members of the forum or not. We will also rely on the help of members of the forum to let us know if a member who has voted is really a member of the forum or not.

I am adding to this by saying to let us know by PM, but not by posting such in the POLL thread itself.

The following will be some of the guidelines for the poll:
  • Only active members of this forum may vote. A specific faith icon is not required, however, you must be a known member of this forum.
  • Members are required to have been active at CF for at least three months and have at least 200 substantial posts.
  • Staff reserves the right to perform IP checks on questionable members.
  • Poll results are viewable to those who have voted, but the specifics of who voted for what is only visible to the staff member who started the poll.
  • Members must post "I voted" for their vote to count. Please don't have to say how you voted, only that you did vote. This way the community can help police the results of the poll by contacting staff when they believe that a non-forum member has voted.
  • No other discussion is allowed in the poll thread.

CF Statement on Marriage between 1 man and 1 woman does not make on "more" Christian. It affirms that what is obvious. Allowing open discussion in certain Christian areas by groups we identify as Christians in a context that SSM is an OK Christian practice does make one "less" Christian.
