So why are the problems so much bigger 50 years after those laws were repealed?
Because of the 50 years of "Help" they got. They are being helped into the problems we would like to see them EXIT.

You know, a hungry person has a very similar feeling in his belly today as the hungry person did 50 or 100 years ago. The person who is in poverty today, usually is NOT in the predicament the poor faced 50 or 100 years ago. Typically, today, the "poor" in America have a car, a house or apartment, a refrigerator, a microwave oven, a TV, a cellular phone, and even a computer. I remember a time when almost NO ONE had all those things.

Clearly, this is a relative thing. People back then did not have neighbors around them with so much stuff, and didn't sense they were so bad-off. Today, people are so concerned about having all the STUFF (that other people have) that they will complain, rather than work harder or seek to better themselves.

As in the movie I mentioned, education is not the worst of the problems, because the folk around certain people make them feel it is wrong for them to try to improve their situation, education, job, etc. The education issue is a by-product of the bad culture. All this, and we STILL hear how it is OK to maintain those cultures, and there are fewer and fewer dads around as we go. The same (type of) people arguing for these things were arguing for the very things that brought these problems on. This is why they are the ones to blame. They are so intent on segregating this protected class of VICTIMS, and keeping them victims with their gov.programs, that they perpetuate the problem, and maintain their power over the victims!!!

So why are the problems so much bigger 50 years after those laws were repealed?

Because the problems didn't magically go away when the Civil Rights Act was passed, and new problems crept up.

Through the mid 1950's-60's, racial discrimination of various kinds was outlawed, but even if all the racist behaviors had been stopped immediately (they weren't), nothing was really done to undo the damage that had already been done. For those folks who'd been denied educations, they were still without education. For those people who were denied access to housing, they were still living in slums. For those people who'd be denied jobs, they were still without work.

If you grow up poor, then chances are good that you'll wind up poor as an adult. Lots and lots of black folks were forced into poverty up through the mid 60's, which means that all the children they had would grow up in poverty and likely stay there for the rest of their lives. And if they have kids while in poverty, most of their kids will live in poverty, too.

On top of the poverty into which many of these black folks were pushed, came the crime that often is associated with poverty. We've known for a while that blacks have been disproportionately targeted by law enforcement, and high rates of incarceration has a further negative effect on the stability of a community and the earning potential of its members.

Do you ever read anything that isn't a moronic conservative talking point? Instead of regurgitating what Sean Hannity told you, try taking some time to read about the history of racial discrimination in American housing policies and how blacks got a raw deal for decades.

And maintain their air of moral superiority!

Hmm ... not sure why you're blasting Avid.

You might consider that his argument has more than a little merit. Just sayin ...

Thanks for the support on the ideas of how the programs INTENDED to help "victims" actually do lasting and devastating damage. We supplement the terrible aspects of their culture to the point of making it almost impossible for them to recover as a group.

How will we (as a nation, our government, our society as a whole) teach these young men to be fathers, and reverse the trends promoted, financed and thrust upon whole cultures in our country?

Who knowingly votes to install drug peddlers into positions of authority? Well, these people are HOOKED on a mindset that has them with their hands out, and dependent upon whatever someone else will give them. They vote for the one who will provide their "Fix." They abandon the traditional family unit for a setup that gets more from the system. (that is how they get a "raise.") This continues as long as the system pays them to be irresponsible.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's great civilizations has been two hundred years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence: from bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependency, from dependency back to bondage."
Alexander Fraser Tyler, Cycle Of Democracy (1770)

WHY is $27/hr for a minimum wage not good? (instead of $8 or $15?) We had it laid out for us here. (Who would have believed the $1+/hr I got while in HS would become $7+ or $15?!?!?) Well, it is so simple - we raise it a little at a time so it gets passed, and not shutdown immediately by horrendous backlash. This is the same with ALL the socialist policies that have been brought in. A heavy progressive income tax, Death Taxes, a central bank (Federal Reserve System,) government run schools, etc., are each part of the Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto. They are brought in gradually, so that, now, the grandparents and great grandparents that fought two world wars in the past century, would not recognize our nation as being the same place!!!

That was a good movie!
Here is another one that is pertinent to our discussion. "The Pursuit of Happyness" is one I liked. People in difficult situations can do some real good by going all out, and really trying hard to make something of themselves. There are many opportunities in this great nation.
