I may be called a heretic myself for saying this but I do not really care for alot of it. I know that some exorcist have said how effective authentic Gregorian chant can be in helping rid the home of demons but yet I still do not like it that much.

I prefer polyphony and sacred hymns myself. Just my opinion. However saying that I do believe that the ordinary form of the Mass for the Latin right should have much more chant as per Vatican II. Just my 2 cents. What do yall think?

BTW here is my understanding of polyphany

and sacred hymns:

I like listening to Gregorian chants when I'm in a negative mood.

Getting back to basics is therapeutic...and I'm not even Catholic! :)
Thanks for that. Yeah thats true it is very basic. Cool! I have heard from demonologist that authentic chant helps eliminate demons in infested areas. The demons hate it. This may also be connected to why it helps a negative mood(depending on where the negativity is coming from). Just my thought on this.

The first video is the same song (setting) that our choir sang for our wedding when my Dad walked me to the vestibule of the church to meet the priest and my husband for the betrothal ceremony. :)

They sang the text of Psalm 45 (At thy right hand stands the Queen) to the setting of Shen Khar Venakhi.

At your right hand stood the queen arrayed in vesture of gold; hearken O daughter and see, and incline your ear; and the King shall greatly desire your beauty for He is your Lord, you shall worship Him.

This is the version I heard first:

This is a version like the one they sang, only our choir sang it more at the tempo in the Shen Khar Venakhi video:

Awesome song and powerful verse that typologically depicts the Queen Mother Mary in her glory. How beautiful. Thanks for sharing this!

I've been to a Western Orthodox Church once which had Gregorian Chant and a modified version of the Tridentine mass. The Gregorian Chanting was beautiful, and it was very interesting to see a version of the Tridentine mass - though as I said earlier, I prefer the Kievan chant (and the Divine Liturgy of the EO Church).

When in Lourdes 2 weeks ago i met a French Benedictine monk at the Bus stop (He was dressed in casual clothes so wasn't wearing a habit etc). It was only through chatting that i learnt he was a Benedictine monk (35yrs) and he was visiting Lourdes where he used to help in his youth as he was selling his CD's from his Monastery of him etc doing Gregorian Chants!!

He didn't have any CD's left except his 'ordinary' copy of which he gave me for free! I tried to give him money but he refused.

Got to listen to it again as first time i was 50/50 about it.

I think I prefer Kievan Chant better too. It has more of a harmony and reminds me much more of sacred polyphony which I love.

i'm not Catholic, and it didn't much matter...i sorta found this on Youtube when i was searching for something else, and it ministered to me BIG TIME. I was thinking of what the title says and meditating on it, and thus was "still" before God my Father, which until that point was very difficult if not impossible.

Perhaps it's a heart thing. This Gregorian Chant was used mightily of God to minister where i needed it most at that time. When all is chaotic and i'm at un-rest i still watch/listen to it.

I love Kievan chant...but never knew it was called that. So thank you. Many Taize songs are similar, but more brief. When I played the audio file, my toddler ran over to see what it was. He said he liked it! Shook his head vigorously in fact lol.
