Self harm seems to be a growing psychological problem in our society. There must be some underlying psychosis that causes people to mutilate themselves.
In post #7, it appears to be a cultural practice and has some tradition and meaning to it. In the first post, this guy didn't even know why he did this to his ears.
Human sacrifice was a cultural practice that had meaning to the Aztecs but i still think there is some psychological pathology involved that ought not to be accepted. Doing violence to oneself shows some sort of lack of self love no matter or perhaps because of the peer pressure involved.

Because if you take out those types of piercings the hole will close up eventually and/or isn't noticeable. There's a huge difference between something that can easily be undone and something that causes long-term and often permanent physical effects.Yet, non-gauged pierced ears are considered perfectly acceptable in women. So, most of us don't have an aboslute rule against body modification by means of deliberate, controlled bodily harm.
