This thread is about the difficulty in seeing pride in our own self and how destructive it is. All contributions to this thread are those that have thought of examples.

Pride is just before the fall. You can not admit the truth because it will hurt your image of yourself. It is hard to spot in ourselves when we have it, because admitting it means it exists in us and we need to get rid of it.

As seriously dangerous as pride is, it’s equally hard to spot. When it comes to diagnosing our hearts, those of us who have the disease of pride have a challenging time identifying our sickness. Pride infects our eyesight, causing us to view ourselves through a lens that colors and distorts reality. Pride will paint even our ugliness in sin as beautiful and commendable.

While pride causes us to filter out God’s goodness in others in order to keep our perceived pecking order. We sift things around when sins are exposed by the pricking of the heart. We are wishing someone else were here to hear this because they need it more. Rather than open up the heart and asking God if it is true in my own heart to remove.

Pride causes us to be far more concerned with others’ perceptions of us. Inwardly the fight is with that which we perceive will have an impact on how others view us. In doing so, our conscience is modified to make peace with the inadequacy we don't want anyone to know about. It is viciously defended to our own detriment.

Pride is hungry for attention, respect, and worship in all its forms all the time. It is shameless boasting about ourselves. The need to be the Jones' that everyone admires, causes endless efforts to accumulate that which attracts admiration for things.

Pride prefers some people over others. It honors those who the world deems worthy of honor, giving more weight to their words, their wants, and their needs. I think it is about the acknowledge by same said "some" people. We consciously or unconsciously pass over the weak, the inconvenient, and the unattractive, because they don’t seem to offer us much to be desired.

You can always tell when pride is dying when confession of pride happens. It signals the beginning of the end for pride. It indicates the war is already being waged and Yeshua is winning. For only when the Holy Spirit moves upon our heart, shining His light upon our sin, humbling us, can we remove the lenses of pride from our eyes and see ourselves clearly, which helps us identify the sickness and seek the cure.

There is a psychological term for this condition. What is it?

I've fallen on my face (grace of God) sooooo many times because of pride... Not realizing it was pride at the time.. Did usually after falling on my face! I am much more aware of it now and have a desire to learn
hhumility and what it truly is.

This is well put. My biggest problem with foreign language learning is not wanting to sound stupid.

While reading Song of Songs lately I was reminded a Greater than Solomon is here.
Song of Songs Chapter 5

א בָּאתִי לְגַנִּי, אֲחֹתִי כַלָּה--אָרִיתִי מוֹרִי עִם-בְּשָׂמִי, אָכַלְתִּי יַעְרִי עִם-דִּבְשִׁי שָׁתִיתִי יֵינִי עִם-חֲלָבִי; אִכְלוּ רֵעִים, שְׁתוּ וְשִׁכְרוּ דּוֹדִים. {ס} 1 I am come into my garden, my sister, my bride; I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk. Eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved. {S}

2 I sleep, but my heart waketh; Hark! my beloved knocketh: 'Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled; for my head is filled with dew, my locks with the drops of the night.'
3 I have put off my coat; how shall I put it on? I have washed my feet; how shall I defile them?
4 My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my heart was moved for him.
5 I rose up to open to my beloved; and my hands dropped with myrrh, and my fingers with flowing myrrh, upon the handles of the bar.
6 I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had turned away, and was gone. My soul failed me when he spoke. I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.
7 The watchmen that go about the city found me, they smote me, they wounded me; the keepers of the walls took away my mantle from me.
8 'I adjure you, O daughters of Jerusalem, if ye find my beloved, what will ye tell him? that I am love-sick.'
9 'What is thy beloved more than another beloved, O thou fairest among women? What is thy beloved more than another beloved, that thou dost so adjure us?'
10 'My beloved is white and ruddy, pre-eminent above ten thousand.
11 His head is as the most fine gold, his locks are curled, and black as a raven.
12 His eyes are like doves beside the water-brooks; washed with milk, and fitly set.
13 His cheeks are as a bed of spices, as banks of sweet herbs; his lips are as lilies, dropping with flowing myrrh.
14 His hands are as rods of gold set with beryl; his body is as polished ivory overlaid with sapphires.
15 His legs are as pillars of marble, set upon sockets of fine gold; his aspect is like Lebanon, excellent as the cedars.
16 His mouth is most sweet; yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.'

The Watchmen took down the walls of Jericho.

Jesus, Yeshua
31"The Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation at the judgment and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.

The Watchmen will take down the walls of Jericho.

…4and said to him, "Run, speak to that young man, saying, 'Jerusalem will be inhabited without walls because of the multitude of men and cattle within it. 5'For I,' declares the LORD, 'will be a wall of fire around her, and I will be the glory in her midst.'"
