The point of having different divisions for men and women in sports is because of the immense physical differences between the average man and woman, not because of any choice of identification. Since no sex reassignment surgery changes the relevant physical differences, having such an operation should not allow an athlete to switch divisions.
Of course, considering that there are some people calling for Bruce Jenner's records to be recognized as world records for women, it's not clear that surgery of any sort will be required at all to switch division, but only a sincere belief that one is a different sex than would be biologically apparent. At that point why even bother having divisions at all?
The Fallon Fox case is shameful. This is nothing more than a man becoming famous for beating up women, and demonstrating why we have different MMA divisions for men and women in the first place.
