can u enjoy anime, final fantasy games, kingdom hearts games, etc without getting aro

I got over the oversexualization of the characters pretty quickly. I like the games/shows because of the stories. The only reaction that they usually get out of me are is crying a bit at some of the sad parts.

I don't know much about the Japanese, but if by "affected" you mean find it hard not to look, it depends on the person. Some don't care, some play the game just for that reason. Are you asking out of curiosity, or are you wondering whether playing those games is a sin or not?

Oh I get ya. I don't know I never really play games or look stuff like that up. (amazingly I spend a lot of time in the internet, but at the same time, I don't do much O_O)

I watch it for the story so I don't find myself having that problem. I watched Elfen Lied which has some nudity in it and it was the story that drew me in. I cried so much during that anime and more than once too... I've seen it like 3 times, lol. Overall, I think that it's not just anime. Women are represented that way in games in the US too and it's leaked into fashion. Girls younger and younger now look older. It's weird.

Have you played FF13?

Maybe you interest is to do with you rather than the anime? I mean, you might be interested in live-action actors too.

I understand its a challenging issue because there are a lot of good anime out there and many over sexualize the characters. If watching certain shows is causing you to think things you don't think you should be thinking or do things you don't feel right doing, then stay away. That being said, I think there is plenty of good anime out there that isn't as focused on big busted women.

I recommend trying to find some animes that don't have this problem. Here's a few: Trigun (Wild West and Sci-Fi anime written by a Japanese Christian) Nichijou (One of my absolute favourites, slice of life anime) Angel Beats! (WARNING!: Will make you feel feelings) Death Note (It's death note, I don't have to explain this.)

I'm atheist, but I don't really have the issue. You could say it's because I don't have that concept of sexual morality, but honestly, I think the Japanese are more open about sex in a sense, at least in popular culture, as a way to cope with the culture that is more repressive about it. Of course, this can have a negative backlash in that their birth rate is still very low, but it's not necessarily because of a more open attitude to humor with sexual themes, since that's been around for 20+ years

I didn't get aroused with Prison School or Monster Musume that are coming out this season, though there are reasons why you can argue they both are for very particular niches to begin with in arousal rather than overall enjoyment. I like them both for different reasons, but I don't get aroused at much anime/manga to begin with. Maybe it's just my libido?

here is one thing I do, go to myanimelist.net, look up the anime your interested in, and look at the rating of the anime and why its rated that. I forgot to do that when I watched popotan... it was a negative effect

Ratings reflect an aggregate of people that may enjoy ecchi series because they get aroused: not everyone is like that, of course, but...

also if you want to be turned off, either think of one of these two thigns that I think work...

1. think the girl(s) in an anime are in a relationship

2.think of the girls as dudes... (cough cough hideyoshi cough cough)

EDIT: ship them with the other character that they are supposed to be with (example: sora and kairi, soul evans and maka albarn, sasha and potato)

Yuri doesn't necessarily turn heterosexuals off: quite the contrary, it can have the opposite reaction. Same applies to jousou/"trap" characters, the sexual response is not always going to be that way.

Also, practicing self deception in regards to sexual attraction and reactions isn't exactly healthy, psychologically speaking, since you're just deflecting away from the relevant issue, which is why you have the reaction and what to do about it.

I am perfectly able to enjoy anime without getting aroused.
My fiancee is prettier than any of them anyway. If half her head was eyes, and a gigantic sweatdrop occasionally appearing, that'd be... just awful.

Though it would be fun if people could turn chibi for a while, for reaction effects, and just spawn a fan in their hand, to beat others over the head, then two round balls just grow from their heads. Classic.

It's that line between seeing the animation as reflective of reality and something that is meant to be beyond reality and thus demarcate where your sense of aesthetics is based in real people rather than what almost amounts to caricatures
