Greece said it would temporarily close banks on Monday in a bid to prevent its banking system from collapsing after the European Central Bank moved to cap the amount of emergency loans it provides for the country’s cash-strapped lenders.

The other problem is that the EU banks who have been loaning to Greece through the ECB, are themselves highly leveraged at the breaking point. If Greece defaults, which it is highly likely, those other EU banks like Deutsche Bank in Germany will have to sell some it's other investment holdings (bonds) in order to maintain the 6% minimum of deposits be in cash in the bank's safe instead of invested out. It is a house of cards.

As far as bible prophecy goes, the next big step is the formation of the United States of Europe, in similitude, but with a ten leader governing body, with one leader over them.
Watch this video, right at the last, minute 10:20, it indicates where the crisis is heading. It's only about 12 minutes long. It is not a religious oriented video.

On 14 June 2001, then-WEU President Solana stated that there was no foreseeable reason to change the status of the non member countries in the organisation. tHE POWER IS IN THE 10!!!! no matter how many other countries want to call themselves the Euro zone.

doug, I suggested the reading bc so many people think the NT is a free for all as far as organization goes. we end up with stuff direct from the OT and the news and NOTHING from the plain language of the NT. Just imagine being there at Acts 26 and telling Israel the shape of things. Nothing distant future. Just the mission.

The WEU does not exist any more, and there is no power structure for ten nations to govern Europe. You are stuck back in the Solona is the Antichrist thinking days.
You are thinking ten leaders from ten different nations of Europe - but that is not the way it is going to happen. There will be a ten leader form of government - but where those ten leaders are from in Europe doesn't matter. We don't have the detailed structure of that coming fiscal government yet to know.
The WEU is a failed theory. The United States of Europe analogy is a different theory.

The 7 headed Satan with 10 horns has to exist, then not exist, then exist again (Rev 17:8). So, it is a moot point about the WEU not existing. But in the end, it doesn't really matter if it's the WEU or a US of Europe or a UN 10 world region - it's all falling into place.

The problem with your read of Bible prophecy is that you're trying to hammer it into meaning something that in fact it doesn't. The EU doesn't have anything to do with Scripture. You want it to, and you try to force it to, but it never works. And the reason for that is that your End Times dogmas are derived from Lindseyism, which is in itself monument to doctoring the Scripture to fit the doctrine. Never worked, never will. But its true believers have elevated it into a creedal dogma in a new pseudo-Christian religion.

Somehow this crisis is going to end up in a federalized fiscal EU government which collects taxes uni formally across the EU andmakes a federal budget, much like the United States. One possibility to equalize representation (with the ten leader form which the bible implies) is that they have ten zones, some comprised of 2 or 3 countries, while other zones may have just one countries. The one leader over everyone, the little horn, may be elected by popular vote. All of this is speculation of course, as far as the exact process. Nonetheless, I think this event is the catalyst that will give the idealists' of a United States of Europe the necessary run-up to hurdle the sovereignty issue.
