I was in the 6th grade during the Gulf War and I remember wondering back then why we didn't just send some assassins in and kill the guy.

At that time we have a "law" that frbade us from assasinating leaders of countries.  However, after 9/11 - that "order" has been repealed.

The problem with Hussein is that he has 3 or 4 look-a-likes.  He never sleeps in the same house for two nights in a row and his royal guard are VERY loyal.  Only one time have we been able to penetrate this loyal group to get a spy - the opportunity was not used (the law I mentioned above).

America will be criticed regardless of what we do from other nations and from within.  but that is what America is about.  Freedom.  being able to say what you want w/o being arrested.  It is funny how some of out mivie stars have gone to Iraq and condemed the U.S.  In Iraq if someone speaks against Hussein or Iraq - they get killed.

America is pretty much the only remaining SUper Power left.  We are the most prosperous nation on the planet.  Yes we do export a bunch of smut to the world.  there are people who do not like people to have freedoms.  People who do not think women should be able to work, do anything but be barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.

I just read a quote by Nelson Mandela.

To paraphrase, he said President Bush has no forsight and "can not think.'

Furthermore, he said that if any country has commited atrocities, that country is the united states; the US has no ... can't remember the exact word, but basically, doesn't value human beings at all. no respect for human beings, I think that was it.

That just makes me angry. :) Coming from him, too. That'd be like Hitler blasting the US for murder or something.

I agree that the US has had it's share of bad things - abortion comes to mind - but really... my goodness, I wonder what else people believe about us.

It's frusterating, isn't it?

There are a few out there, though, who like us.  Here is something from a Canadian named Gordon Sinclair.  He said this in 1973, and I first heard about it after 9/11.

At least someone out there saw America for what we go through and have to put up with.

Saddam Hussein is a nut. We should have finished the job the first time. It's always harder having to go back and do it again.
What is this man going to have to do for the world to see that he doesn't need to be running a country?
I'll support the troops wherever they go, but it just frustrates me that we have to go in there again.

Like Joshua of old, we've not been able to rid ourselves of our enemies because of our integrity and laws, and now they are nipping at our heels like a pack of rabid dogs, waiting for America to stubble enough to fall over and be devoured. All the while, our so-called continental European "allies" are standing and watching us waiting for their opportunity to reassert themselves as a so-called superior. If we must go alone, then so be it, but the next time a dictator wants to roll through Paris, I'm of the opinion that we give him the keys to the city.

I agree with most of what everyone says here. If war with Iraq happens it happens, the rest is in God's hands. But suppose, we go to war, overthrow Saddam and have a temporary government under U.S. authority. From a Christian stand point this would give the us the body of Christ to spread the Love and the Word of Christ into that dark nation. :holy:
Besides, all these events in the Middle East only show that the End Times are coming and that can mean one thing : Christ's return.

The supposed peaceful disarmament is silly, anyways... it's not happening, and it's not going to happen in the way it's supposedly going at the moment. If Iraq really WAS disarming, they would disarm, not draw it out and keep drawing it out, as is happening now.

And if you think of it this way ... Iraq only needs ONE nuclear warhead, missle, bomb, etc., to create a havoc that would probably make the twin towers disaster look pretty pale in comparison. THAT is why having a total disarmament is so important, and the longer you draw Suddam tries to draw it out, the more suspiscious to me it seems to be :p

Speaking of that... it's been a long, long time since I've done any studying of the end times.  My sister was telling me that she learned in her Bible class that the Bible says that there will be a great war where Babylon will destroy part of Israel, then will be destroyed by God (Isaiah 13-14).

Seeing as how Iraq is Babylon.....  any thoughts?  Do you suppose that this is the war the Bible refers to?

No, for one thing, the rapture hasn't occurred ;)

I don't think "Babylon" is to be taken literally there, as in the literal area of Babylon... Revelation is full of figurative speech, I don't think Christ actually has a sword coming out of His mouth, either ;)

Yes... the order of events would be... as far as I remember :) -

(Church Age) -> Rapture -> Tribulation (7 years) -> Christ's Second Coming ** -> Milennium.. Millennium... blah :D -> Armageddon, another spelling iffiness -> Great White Throne -> the "eternal state."

It's important to note that Christ's second coming is NOT the rapture :) Big difference.

Also, a lot of the Old Testament prophecies appear to have completely "missed" teh church - they leave out the church age completely. For quite a simple reason, if God told them about the "church," they would go, "huh?" because there was no "church" back then, there wasn't until Pentecost.

But there are a LOT of prophecies about the end times in the OT, it's surprising. I think Zechariah has a lot to do with the end times also, the latter chapters of it anyways.

/me is trying to remember from when his pastor taught a Bible study that went through revalation :)

ok, not quite sure about all this end times stuff.. and i'm not quite sure if i'm for or against the war. neither sides are being striaight forward with what is going on, and i'm incredibly uneasy with the UN not behind us on this. i've been battling back and forth on this for months...

The UN? Bah to the UN ;) They don't do a whole lot. Other than what we are seeing them doing - absolutely nothing.

Do you realize how many treaties, papers, etc., have been given to Saddam Hussein, who has failed to comply with any of them?

It's silly. They think that we should just give him more time... for what? More time to not comply?

There many things in the Bible that tell of the end Times.  But one thing is certain, the Middle East plays a focal point in the scheme of things.  Now I agree that the U.N. hasn't been pulling it's weight concerning the war resolutions.  The nations that are against the idea France, Germany, and Russia have one thing in common, they're former world powers that are now a shell of what they once were.

We must remember that the Revelation doesn't even mention the U.S.  So it makes me wonder whether or not what happens now determines the fate of the U.S.

Don't forget everyone, and make no mistake of it, a war with Iraq is a stepping stone to one of the milestones that are spoken of in the prophesies.
