I'd bet money that if he were doing anything at all, they would be tooting their horns over it.
I actually met them once. They seem quite humble. It's funny how people get upset when they keep stuff to themselves, and yet create a paradox because they think they'd toot their own horns...

Yeah, I had a similar problem with my son. He stole $600 from my purse and went and bought an X-box. I took him down to the police station with the intent to press charges (He was 16). The officer helped me out by giving him a tour of the jail, and enrolling him in a police boot camp, only pretending to make an arrest report, and in general scaring the heck out of my son, who then faithfully made it through boot camp with humility.
I'm not saying the police, the Duggars, Josh et al couldn't have done anything better. Something like what happened to your son might have been more appropriate. This is why I tend not to rely on government to do things like parenting for me. I applaud the Duggars for dealing with a parental crisis, which could have gone either way. At least Josh is clean from it, from all appearances.

He was a juvenile when it happened. I'm not saying he should have been treated like an adult offender. But what happened? WAS he sent to mandatory counseling? DID he have to pay retribution? DO community service? GO to boot camp? ANYTHING? Unless I have my story wrong, the family just went home from the police station and it was back to business as usual.

I don't see anyone defending Josh Duggar for what he did. I do defend the parents for how they handled the situation. I think it was appropriate. I don't think we need to rely on the nanny-state government to discipline our children. They're too confused trying to figure out whether gay marriage is appropriate.

Nor should we need arm chair judges who only go by what the media have said. Great post ROJ!

Isn't anyone bent-out-of-shape at the harsh, judgmental, and hypocritical stance of Josh Duggar? He appears to have become an oily, slimy, lobbyist. He represented a self-declared 'righteous Christian family defense group' of individuals who have caused me to shudder. What about Ma and Pa? The family has accused a specific group of fallen people of being the worst of the worst. I have decided I will lovingly embrace being a lover and follower of the Savior, but I no longer wish to be labeled a Christian. I have grown disillusioned with how the Bible is being interpreted and wielded as a weapon to harm groups of people. And this goes waaaaayyyyy beyond the Duggars. Ultra-wacko, conservative, right-wing, scary people are declaring their sole ownership of God, Christ, the Bible, family values...and bullying others into agreement with them!

I think the really bad thing about this entire scenario is that one of the children he groped could only have been about 5 at the time. That, to me, is a really bad sign. The judge said in May of 2015 that one of the victims was still a minor. It happened 12-13 years ago. You do the math.

http://hollywoodlife.com/2015/05/21...ocuments-destroyed-victim-identity-protected/

Oh, and one other thing. Everyone obviously can figure out who the minor victim was. All we have to do is look at the ages of their children:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/19_Kids_and_Counting

(scroll down until you reach the listing of their kids' ages)

I honestly don't know enough about the family to make a statement about this.

Right. The Bible should simply be allowed to speak for itself.

Don't give up the label yet. There have always been Christians who have done great evil in the name of Christ; just a brief survey of church history is enough to make a believer want to throw up. But there have also always been incredible saints and acts of mercy and goodness that are so profoundly moving that they bring throngs of people to Christ. Ultimately Christians are human beings, flawed sinful creatures who are forgiven and being worked on by God; we are being perfected but we will never reach that state of perfection until after death. It should never surprise us, then, that there is sin in the churches. The church is not a museum for perfect people, it is a hospital for sinners. Sinners like me. Sinners like the Duggers. Sinners like you, too. If I could plagiarize from CS Lewis, being called a Christian is enough to bow the head of the mightiest king, and lift the head of the lowliest beggar.

What Christianity needs are Christians coming out and saying that we do not support this and that this is a crazy fringe group. That's exactly what it is.

Nonsense. He deserves no slack. He was a teenager molesting a much younger and weaker innocent. He got special treatment because of who his parents were and who they knew. If he was your kid or mine, he would have been dealt with quite differently. All the while his parents are reported to be going around making hypocritical comments about child molesters. We should not dismiss this out of some misguided perspective that this constitutes Christian persecution. It does not.
Thank you!!!!

this is just what the victims said, it seems like it was dealt with in a responsible manner

I think we need to look at why is this so long in the media? (Personally I’m not a Duggar fan because of their marriage and sex teaching) and this is the quality of the show most in question I will give you a couple of points why:

1. How did the girls first court?

a. Their dad introduced them/interrogated the other (cause his daughter met him online) – This said I have no problem of a guy going to a girls dad and say I like your daughter can I date her to see where it goes?

b. This shows male dominated and the father/male is right and the female has to listen (this is if you take “wives submit to your husband” out of context and paying attention to “husbands love your wives” or completely disregarding the Prov. 31 woman)

2. The rules of courting?

a. Do not kiss, do not front hug, do not hold hands – why? Cause each can tempt towards more intense sexual attraction

3. Once they get married what about sex then?

a. Anytime, anywhere, anyhow the husband wants – I’m not kidding google it….Mom Duggar gives advice on how to make your marriage work? #1 you may be tired from housework, taking care of kids, and just a busy day overall but you need to give your husband sex if he wants it.

4. What did they teach their kids about proper/improper touching?

a. Absolutely nothing….did you watch all three parts? Did you hear what the girls said? Oh we did not know what was happening>>>I mean seriously? You don’t know when your big brother was touching weird areas of your body that something was not right? Who’s fault is that? Mom and dad for not teaching proper boundaries (yes I get boundaries in a large family are a little fluid I have many siblings….but really we still had boys in boys room girls in girls room not allowed in the other room)

The take away?

The Duggar’s message is all about no sex till marriage and then have all the sex you can to pop out those kids and have the biggest family you can. Did you catch that NO SEX ABSOLUTELY NO SEX - NO TOUCHING, NO TEACHING, NO TALKING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT SEX……and what happened when their son did some sexual touching and what do they say? OH its no big deal he was just a little too curious about girls. This is the heart of the issue and why they say there is a disconnect/hypocrisy

I guess the Duggers Dug themselves a hole :D

Seriously though would you say this whole family is a cult or part of a cult?

The Duggars grew up under the influence of Bill Gothard's teachings and IBLP. Without getting too deep into it, the theology taught at IBLP and ATI had a lot to do with what is coming to light.

http://www.recoveringgrace.org/2014...-iblp-literature-on-sexual-assault-and-abuse/

There is a whole network of ex-ATI members (at one time there were tens of thousands members in the US) that have set up a website online. I would suggest that people check it out.

I think the most productive thing a Christian can do is to pray for this family and try not to judge them. God knows their hearts.....and ours.

Amen. I think we as humans have an overwhelming desire to judge that is why it is good to practice non judging to the best of ability.
