Does anyone know anything about generational curses and the way they form between parents and children? Does anyone have any experience with breaking a generational curse over their own life? Especially people who grew up in Christian homes but had parents who were abusive in some type of way: physical, verbal, emotional, alcoholics, etc.? I need so much help right now >.<

I started to read the article with a bit of a "critical" eye for evaluation and found comments such as "once they see that person being physically violated to this kind of an extreme degree, will realize that there might be a hole in that person’s hedge." Honestly, there is no biblical foundation for this, and no scripture is cited in the article. Demonic activity in the life of a believer is limited to his desperate attempt to deceive you into believing lies, and tempting you to sin.

I do not believe "generational sins" are demonic in nature. I believe they are passed from generation to generation through the normal enculturation process - what we teach our children through values, how we treat our children, the things we say to them, how we teach them socialization, etc. Iow, if a man beats his wife, their children will believe that is a normal part of marriage. If you expect your oldest child to rear their younger siblings, this will have severe consequences in that they will be caretakers and rescuers (unhealthy) and their siblings will grow up with a different set of issues like entitlement or attention-seeking.

I believe almost all generational sins are passed along through unhealthy patterns of relating to each other and to God. Once a person becomes a believer, it is imperative to go through a healing process where there is discipleship leading to the transformation of the heart and mind into the heart and mind of the Lord Jesus (it is no longer we who live, but Christ who lives in us). There is a fantastic program that deals with these kinds of things - even/especially generational - called Freedom Session. Stand Strong?Walk in Truth - Freedom Session International Ministries. I really encourage you to check this out. It is truly liberating. In one of the later sessions, the issue of demonic attachment is addressed. I am very familiar with the program (have been facilitating for 5 years) and I have also got a background working with [at-risk] families. If you have specific questions, feel free to PM...there are also people here with good intentions, and it's important for you to follow what you know to be true, given prayer and biblical study.

The cure for generational curses has always been repentance
from sin as it was revealed in the OT...in such verses as: 1 Samuel 12:10–11

For us the keys to overcoming sin and battling evil--
John 3:16
Romans 12:1–2
Ephesians 1:13–14
Ephesians 6:12–18

We all under the curse...until broken by the blood of Jesus wiping away our sin nature that was passed down through adam.

other than that, I think we just need to learn day by day conform no longer to the world but by renewing our mind with the Word of God.

there are some specific curses that actually do get passed down generationally due to witchcraft practises like freemasonry, but as don't have background family in this I can't advise...what I do know is, if your family involved in this, its likely if you don't join in you get cursed. There's specific deliverance prayers you can pray for this.

breaking off root causes..what I did with an elder prepared to do this, was, confess, repent, and then tell the demons to leave, taking Jesus authority over them.

If its something like alcoholism tell the spirit of addiction to leave.
Also, if theirs trauma in your life that you remember, an effective way is to curse the trauma. Then ask Jesus to heal the wound. Remember Jesus cursed the fig tree, and it died the next day. Sometimes we gotta be tough on demons, not wishy washy.

Just saying from my own experience, but again, ask elders to pray with you don't just go to any random deliverance ministry.

Where does a generational curse come from for a Christian? Your Father is God and I doubt He did anything to curse you. You're not in the same family line that you were once in, now you're in His family. People that are righteous, holy, and blessed just can't be cursed as well.

Generational curses on Christians are the devils lie and I don't pay any attention to such teachings.

Blessings,

Alan

Justneedhlep: Have you been baptized into Christ?

We were dead in our sins and only through Christ do we have life. For Christ has brought us from death into life and from earth into heaven. 'Yesterday, I was buried with Thee, O Christ, and today I arise with Thine arising. Yesterday, I was crucified with Thee.'

However, as the Paschal Troparion says: Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!

Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee from before His face (Ps. 68:1)
As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish; as wax melts before the fire (Ps. 68:2a)
So the sinners will perish before the face of God; but let the righteous be glad (Ps.68:2b)
This is the day which the Lord hath made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps. 118:24)

I'm reminded by the OP of a story a pastor once told: Two boys grew up with an abusive, alcoholic father. He was cruel and careless and, most of the time, drunk. One of the boys grew up to be just like his father, a violent drunkard; the other became a gentle, loving pastor of a church. When the brothers were asked why they were the men that they were, they both answered: "With a father like mine, what did you expect?"

I don't find myself persuaded to believe this business of generational curses. Certainly, the article you cited offered almost no scriptural support for the idea. Except for a reference to the Ten Commandments in Exodus 20, there was no biblical support at all for the conjecture in which the article indulged. This is always a BIG red flag for me. If you want to speak to spiritual realities, you'd better be able to support what you're saying very clearly from God's Word.

As the story of the two brothers illustrates, we always have a choice as to how we will respond to our circumstances and influences. No one is destined to be just like their parents, or to be caught in the current of their parents' sin.

Selah.

Romans 8:33-34 Amplified Bible

33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect [when it is] God Who justifies [that is, Who puts us in right relation to Himself? Who shall come forward and accuse or impeach those whom God has chosen? Will God, Who acquits us?]

34 Who is there to condemn [us]? Will Christ Jesus (the Messiah), Who died, or rather Who was raised from the dead, Who is at the right hand of God actually pleading as He intercedes for us?

Speaks for itself.

I've never believed in generational curses. Always believed people use it as a way to justify their abhorrent behavior.

Folks say I'm an alcoholic because my father/mother/brother/ uncle was.

Horse hockey.

You either repeat the cycle, or you break it.

As far as freemasonry curses go, it's nonsense as well.

It's easier for those that can't explain things away, to look for a scape goat.
Bad things happen to good people and vice versa.
Acknowledge your behavior and ask God for forgiveness.

Until such time someone can prove to me that these curses exist, I'll continue to disparage them.

We agree on praying, talking with the lord is always the best way to handle anything. Praying for my ancestors sins? That's where we disagree.

Some of the best conversations I've had with God was when I meditate. Shut out everything but God. It's an incredible feeling.
