I am not adding a tag of MJ only so that our Jewish friends can participate. But this thread is for the members who actively participate in discussions in this forum so we can get to know one another outside of the discussions.

I don't think we should let our posts on certain topics define who we are. Hoshyia made a thread a little while ago speaking on how impersonal the internet is and how if we had these discussions face to face we would act and re-act a lot differently to each other than we do with mere words on a forum.

So, how about we learn a little about each other by just sharing our days?

So, I'll start.

Yesterday I went to the ophthalmologist for my second check up. I had shingles about a month ago on my face and now I am suffering from postherpetic neuralgia. Since it was so close to my eye the Doctor was concerned about its effect on it and my possible loss of vision. But he said it is looking good, now all I have to do is hope this neuralgia gives me relief soon.

So after the doctors visit I was going to stop at this park that was only a few blocks away. On the way to it we passed a school where there were a lot of police cars, news crews and security. I thought it might not be a good idea to go to that park so I headed to one further away. Took a bit of a walk but the air was heavy with predicted rain and my nose is still numb and hard to breath through on the one sides so I didn't walk around much but my dog got in some good sniffs and left some P-mail. :)

I hadn't eaten before I left so we stopped by a place I could get Kosher and GF french fries and then came home and ate them with some sandwiches.

I happened to check the weather (since we went by another park I love and this tree which is some kind of weeping cherry that is huge and I love having a picnic under but it blooms really quickly every Spring and I miss it a lot, and it is starting to bud) on the TV when I got home and saw there was Tornado warnings out. I read this morning what O b bma is trying to do to Israel so not surprised there were such horrendous T-Storms over DC last night. But I had to stay up and keep an eye out since they had the watch til 9, then they upped it to 10pm then 1am. I prayed the L-RD would keep us safe and He did .

While I was waiting it out I remembered going by that school earlier and looked it up on the local news. Turns out that very school had just undergone lock down as there was an 18 year old who had posted something on facebook and had gone to the school just before it let out carrying a Glock pistol. He was arrested for making terroristic threats, carrying and possession. Nice, I drove by there just after it happened. The L-RD saved me again!

So this morning I got up and took the pup for a walk, the air is clearer today so no trouble breathing but praises to the L-RD for no damages here. There was hail predicted with all these storms, a whole line of them with purple and magenta in color intensity that I've never seen before. There were hardly any branches down, no hail (thankfully as I don't have a garage for my car) and the sun is shining and the birds are singing and I am just going to enjoy this day since the rest of the week doesn't look so good.

So enough about me, how was your day???

I know better than to look at a forum just before bed...

My wife and I run an orphanage in a 3rd world country. This morning she went in to help one of our staff get a decent medical check-up. I did home school with our kids and it went great. Around noon I lifted weights in our bedroom, and that went well also. We had recently been to the States, so I brought back some whey protein, which I mixed up and drank. I had arranged to meet with a local friend, who had started a school, around 2pm. Shortly before that, my wife told me she was unable to locate a wheelchair.

So... we need a wheelchair because a volunteer living at the house had fallen and broken her ankle. Both bones. And one was sticking several inches out of her leg. And I was called at 2 am to rush her to the hospital. This was 2ish days ago.

The food for lunch is typically served at 2 pm, and what they were making today wouldn't be ready until a little later. So I picked up some samosas at a shop, and ate them on the way to pick up my friend. He told me he needed some money for school uniforms, and I agreed to help. He showed me the way to a place that had a wheelchair for a decent price. I bought it, and left him in town, so he could do some things. I also happened to meet another guy I knew, who I needed to talk to. I want to import a car from Japan to replace one of our beat up vehicles. We talked for a bit, and we will get together later to discuss details. Then I went back to the orphanage. My wife had been communicating with the volunteer, and she wanted to remain in her upstairs room.

So... the doctors were able to set her bones, but due to the massive flesh wound, they can't cast it. It is braced, but the slightest bump or fall could repeat the entire scenario. Also she has to be transported to the hospital daily for bandage changes.

I said no. She didn't like it, but I arranged another place for her to stay that was ground level and easy access to a toilet. We also have a baby, less than 2 years, in the hospital for another issue. At these hospitals you have to have someone stay with the patient, or they will receive very little care. I was arranging for another nanny to replace the one who had stayed at the hospital that day. I asked if the volunteer needed anything, and she asked for one item. Another staff member left, around 4:30, with the nanny and things to take to the hospital. 5 minutes later, the volunteer texted with more items she needed. I called the driver, he came back, and I got the things she needed. They proceeded to the hospital. During this time I had to fix a flashlight for the night guard and do a few other things. A little after 5pm, I walked down the road to our house.

So... we hired a woman to work at our house. That is very normal here, and she had no other way to provide for her kids after her husband ran off. She generally needs to leave by 4pm to pick up her kids.

Our "house sister" left to get her kids, and I sat down to smoke my pipe for a minute. My wife returned a little bit later and said the volunteer was being discharged, and I needed to go get her. Also the staff member, whom we really care about, has ovarian cancer. Anything at this hospital takes a very long time, and nobody seems like they know what they are doing. I had to leave right away. Thankfully, everything went well at the hospital. The bill was ready, and the staff was helpful. I took her back to the house, helped her into the wheelchair, and put her in her new room. I returned home around 8 pm, and had something to eat. I sat with my wife for a while, and talked about the woman, our friend, who has cancer.

It's 12:02 am now. I've had worse days.

Oh my!

Thank you BTW! for participating. I commend you for all the loving work you do and the patience you must have. I pray you and your family are blessed in all your true needs.

We just got hit with a $3500 IRS bill because I now have insurance through my husbands job and am not using the o bam a ca re. And I just came back from the vets with my Doggie and the estimate of $1000-$1400 for her tumor surgery next week. But the L-RD provides, he always has and I believe he always will, our only 'job' is to remain faithful and to trust.

Stay strong! I hope you have a restful nights sleep!

So far, I've had a quiet morning with a nice cup of coffee. :) I sent my husband and my second born son off to work early this morning. We had cloud cover before dawn and smelled like rain, but now it's sunny and clear. I had the chance to visit with my oldest son and we talked about several topics. It's always nice to have one on one time with my children. My remaining three children are sleeping in, but not for long, I'm sure! So, while I still have quiet time, I thought I'd check in here. Since leaving our Messianic shul, I found this forum, and I like to stop in now and then! Some of your personalities seem familiar to me, and reminiscent of my friends from my former Torah study group. Which sometimes makes me smile and sometimes makes me cringe, but all in all, I enjoy "seeing" this group here. I'm sure there are others here who feel the same way. :) I hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Yesterday I was at a local church working with the pastor who wants to start an interfaith dialogue with various religious traditions but first he feels that his congregation needs to know a little about those religious traditions, so I’m putting together an introduction to Judaism program for them. Them I had the opportunity to drive home in a mix of snow and rain, when I got home I decided it was soup weather so I made three loaves of French bread and homemade minestrone soup. Then I went to be early because I was not feeling well.

Today there was a dusting of snow on the car, took the kids to school, came home and took a nap, still not feeling 100% and trying to decide between chicken or salmon for dinner.

Cloud cover but no rain. And. We. Need. Rain!!!
Preparing for my naturopathic/chemo cancer treatment beginning on May 4th. It's a 3 week outpatient M-F IV infusion in another state, so I'll be living at an Extended Stay. Because my HMO doesn't cover any naturopathic treatment or anything outside their services, this will all come out of our pocket to the tune of $35,000. Have to have $10,500 paid each week for the 3 weeks plus living expenses while there. Bad news is that we're not rollin' in the dough, my GiveForward fundraiser is slow going, so waiting to see how G~d is going to pull this one off. Good news is that my treatment has a 90% remission rate for me. PM me if you want more info on my treatment plan and such.
Having a hard time standing and walking, so household chores and meal prep is rough. So enough whine already!!!
Thanks for this thread, Lulav. :)

7GB's I am glad you had some time to spend with your child. When you have more than one it is hard. Happy to hear the sun is shining where you are. Here after going through the tornado watch on Monday right now the wind is so strong I am praying that no trees are blown over onto my house. Strong T'Storms we are supposed to have to I don't think I'll be going out like I planned.

AJ, I am not surprised to hear of your interfaith work, I'm sure you will do a bang up job! Did you say you baked your own French bread and made homemade Minestrone? and while not feeling well? If I were 10 years younger and not married.....:)

If you aren't feeling well and I see you are vegetarian, the best thing you know is some good old fashioned Jewish Penicillin. The trick is to make it yourself with a whole chicken, cooked slowly in water, take the chicken out, cool, remove meat and skin from bones and then put the bones back in and cook until they are soft. This gets the nutrients out of the bones which along with good fresh herbs in the soup helps to heal you quickly. My grandmother always had some on hand even in the summer when I couldn't even think of eating soup in the heat!

Ani, it's good to see you on here, I've missed you but knew what was happening. I have been praying for you and I'm sorry to hear of your trials to get your chemo but I believe that HaShem provides what we need as I said before and when we need it. I think we can use this thread not only to get to know each other better but to also do a little group therapy of sorts.

I feel closer to you all already with just one day of sharing, I hope this continues!

Today I am awaiting the call from the Vet to see if the blood tests came back ok for my therapy doggie's surgery.

Thank you all for participating, and please do whenever you can!

Hallelujah.

My Rabbi often hosts interfaith dialogues.

His favorite interfaith slogan is "Prays well with others."

Good thread!! Wish blessings and fast healing to Anisavta.

You know hot liquids tend to actually help in heat.So do hot peppers. There is a whole science behind it , activates heat receptors on our tongue- sends signal to the brain to cool yourself off , so you sweat a bit. Hot climate-living Indians and middleeasterners can't all be wrong.

I like hot tea in summer :)

Yep, great knowledge for an adult, but as a kid not so much. ;)

ok so this has been happening to me for a couple days and I thought it was a CF glitch but I keep having trouble.

I do not have a New Thread button and everyone else seems to think I just can't find it.

Anyway I tried to post in the
Questions about CFforum

But it wouldn't let me, I got one of those "You do not have permission to post here" notices.

So I am posting it in this thread and hope someone can help me.

A kind member in the chatbox posted me a link to show me what it looked like. And that is located here

That was taken in GT so I got my own screen shot of MJ and GT forum and am attaching them below.

Check it out and let me know if you have the button?

Thanks all!

Nothing much happened with me today, I made two loaves of white bread, two loaves of wheat, and three loaves of raisin bread. Later I’m going to a chamber music performance that is my early birthday present.

I have three kids and a wife that ensures there is never enough bread in my house. I do not have a bread machine, just two professional Kitchen Aide mixers. The cost per loaf is less than commercial bread, but the loaves are smaller. They weigh the same but I can’t get as many slices out of mine so the cost per slice is more. But, my bread does not have high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, softeners or artificial ingredients. I had started noticing some health issues with all the high fructose corn syrup that had been in my diet and once I removed it, those issues went away. I have not tried making GF bread yet but when I do, I’ll let you know!

That is wonderful you do that and having a Kitchen Aid sure helps! Your wife is surely blessed!

I have been avoiding the HFCS myself for awhile although I have a weakness for Katz' GF Everything bagels;). I have to eat GF because I have Celiac's disease so it's not a choice for me diet wise. I myself when I'm up to it, bake my own bread and it is amazing once you go GF how many different and very healthy flours there are that you can use.

Some are very high in protein, such as Quinoa, Teff, bean, sorghum , amaranth buckwheat and nut flours. These also help to make the bread have a nice crust.

I also have a recipe for a artisan bread that's GF that is baked in a cast iron pot. It is wonderfully crusty on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. It's for colder weather time since it bakes at a very high temp, but great for helping to warm the house in the winter and to go with soup!

Another thing I like to add when baking anything is chia seed, flax seeds and oats. This gives it more texture as well as all the healthy substances those things provide. Sesame seeds are great too and they help in joint pain relief. All these I buy organic of course and non GMO.

I just returned from Costco and saw they have GF bread flour at a reasonable price. It wasn’t on the list or budget for today, but on the 1st I’ll pick some up.

I’ve been adding steel cut Irish oats to my wheat bread; it’s cheaper than wheat berries and you really can’t tell the difference.

And it is better for your cholesterol than wheat berries. But why use the steel cut Irish? In my store those are very expensive. I get the BRM organic oats.

Did you know that About 80 percent of all U.S. corn is genetically modified? But there are no GM oats? Oats are great, they are loaded with protein about 12- 24%. The WHO says they’re of the caliber of a source of protein as meat, milk and eggs.

Oats aren't genetically engineered simply because they are not considered a major crop.

So add all the oats you can, I like to use it in cookies to give more fiber, if you make pancakes, I like to put a little butter in the pan then sprinkle it with oats and then add the batter. Sprinkle some on top of the cooking pancakes too. As they cook the oats brown nicely and add a wonderful flavor to them.

So, how come the rest of you don't want to share? It isn't about having something exciting to share, but rather your day to day. I think we can better get to know each other if we can 'walk a few minutes' in their shoes.

I think it would save a lot of misunderstandings and conflicts on here.

So, my day so far is uneventful. But the sky is blue and the air is warm, I have my porch doors open and can hear the splash of the fountain in my pond right off the side.

I have to go and get ready soon for an appointment with the doctor since I am still having complications from my shingles and having a hard time breathing. I am hoping he can do something for me right away and I don't have to go through tests and experimentation. I'm thinking maybe a inhaler might help, but not sure.

Afterwards I'm hoping I feel well enough to go to my favorite close by place. It's a park that has the most beautiful huge weeping tree that I love to have a picnic under when it is in bloom which I hope is now. Then I have to come home and rest up and hope I can get up early enough tomorrow morning to take my bulldogge to the vets for her surgery. Please spare some prayer that all will go well with it?
