Does it matter what crowns one gets for a wedding?

It can't be a Burger King crown. Beyond that, did you have something in mind? Different traditions have different practices, so it's not too tightly constrained, but you may want to pick something "traditional". I prefer the Greek style to the Russian style.

We got ours from www.orthodoxweddingcrowns.com - the quality and beauty of the crowns were exactly what we wanted - and all of them were acceptable options according to our priest. If you want a crown other than the one the church provides and don't want to make one yourself, I highly recommend this site.

The more simplistic Greek ones are preferable to my taste. Just silver, for petals (organic in design), mother of pearl.

Alternatively, I'll go for one like this:

Simple and understated ;)

A $5 plastic crown is probably not desirable. It's actually typical in Russian parishes to have a set of crowns that belongs to the parish that people use. They often look about like those, except made of metal. I think I spent less than $100 on my Greek-style crowns, and while that's actual money, it's fairly reasonable - people typically hang them up on their wall and such and keep them forever.

I'm thinking of buying because we are doing the big celebration outside of the church so everyone can be there and then we can do a little church thing to make it legit. It would be nice to have the crowns when everyone is there. Any advice?

I would check out the orthodoxweddingcrowns.com site I mentioned...ours that we got from there are beautiful...I'll post a photo later, probably tomorrow

My own Parish actually has 2 sets of crowns one fairly simple [ our priest brought them from Croatia with him ] and a set Fr Deacon and I found in the depths of a cupboard when we were cleaning after our old priest moved to a new parish. This older set are much more elaborate.
