Politicians and lawyers? I think it's time we add 'journalists' to the list of people who are generally untrustworthy. People died because of this. Is there a way to hold these people accountable?

It took hold because the police in Ferguson (and across the country) had been guilty of abuse against blacks for a long time.

It took hold because a mid-term election was coming up and the Dem-MSM complex wanted to further their Narrative to get votes.

I was certainly surprised by it.
I had experience sitting on a jury for a 1st Degree murder child. The defendant was a juvenile being tried as an adult. What the public defender said is true. The defendant insisted on taking the stand himself, big mistake. And the public defender put his mother on the stand to tell the jury how her son shouldn't be held accountable because he had no father and she couldn't "be there for him" because she was a prostitute and he had to be raised by his grandmother

It seems like this man is making a case that blacks are somehow inferior to whites.

Of course him saying he is a liberal does not mean he is, unless of course you want to believe it.

I am a conservative, yet who here will have a problem with me when I start posting in the conservative safe house?
No, he pointed to cultural diffrences

I was certainly surprised by it.
Nothing the man said was specifically "Conservative" in nature. Nothing he said was "Racist" in nature. He pointed to fact that he had firsthand knowledge concerning the behavior, and to statistics that are commonly available.

I could see that there would be people who tried to paint this in a bad light, but it seems these are the ones who are not interested in the whole truth. The people described in his article were shown to be the product of upbringing, and culture.

If ANYONE so hates their child as to completely abandon them, and the child's grandmother must be the one who raises them, they can expect this same result. (Grandma was likely raised that same way!) It is THIS welfare culture as part of American culture that has been pushed by liberals for decades that can be blamed for the destruction of these families.

Thirty-five years ago, it was pointed out that the problems we are discussing were not apparent 55 years prior to that. Here is a video from 1980:

This dispels the idea that the system seeks out people according to their color to harass and abuse... Recognizing these problems is not imagining these problems.

Who said I said he was racist? AFAIK, this guy's just reporting on his experiences....
I know you were not trying to say that. I am responding to what you responded to. Please don't take offense... I don't see their posts anymore. It is only as you quote them I even know what they said...

But somehow those cultural differences are always tied to Blackness.

Hmm . . . .

Black people doing crime. Proportionately more than white people, yellow people, and brown people...

... must be white people's fault.

I have taken special care not to treat people of the certain culture we are discussing with any assumption of their attitudes based on race and culture. After reading this, I'll be more careful, and not allow myself to be hurt in the same way as when I was ignorant of these tendencies. Having this info has made me understand that certain people of certain cultures think differently, and are abused by their own family and neighbors if they refuse to conform to that mindset.

There is a liberal lawyer who works as a Public Defender, and his experience was a stark eye-opener to him, and anyone not aware of what really goes on.

...

This bit made me think:

If you tell a black man that the evidence is very harmful to his case, he will blame you. “You ain’t workin’ fo’ me.” “It like you workin’ with da State.” Every public defender hears this. The more you try to explain the evidence to a black man, the angrier he gets. It is my firm belief many blacks are unable to discuss the evidence against them rationally because they cannot view things from the perspective of others. They simply cannot understand how the facts in the case will appear to a jury.

I wonder if this is a result of the extremely high rate of broken families? I remember being a kid and, whenever I misbehaved or mistreated someone, I often heard "How would you feel if...?". With poor schools that do not discipline, and broken families where parents do not discipline, I infer that the two are related.

The author says he also has some white clients, albeit a minority. Without a doubt, there are white criminals who think like this:

They do not understand the pain they are inflicting on others. One of my robbery clients is a good example. He and two co-defendants walked into a small store run by two young women. All three men were wearing masks. They drew handguns and ordered the women into a back room. One man beat a girl with his gun. The second man stood over the second girl while the third man emptied the cash register. All of this was on video.

.... I asked him whether he felt bad for the women he had beaten and terrorized. He told me what I suspected—what too many blacks say about the suffering of others: “What do I care? She ain’t me. She ain’t kin. Don’t even know her.”

I would suspect a white-skinned someone who thinks like that would come from a broken or very dysfunctional family. Yet, when we look at the high incarceration rates among blacks, then look at the high rate of illegitimate parents(it's the parents, not the kids, who are illegitimate), we're supposed to ignore the latter, hang our heads in shame, and check our privilege as we look down at our feet. Maybe privilege is stored between the toes something.

You are right on the cusp of this issue! We are taught to consider the feelings of others when our human nature refuses to see things that way. We are taught by parents who love us, so we should not be all our lives fighting against the system of law and order!

We can see how NOT having that from a caring parent would make us socially handicapped. We would be inferior, not because of our race, but because our parents did not love us!!!

Proverbs 23
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.

14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
We are not prepared as egotistical and self center little babes, completely controlled by the nature we inherit from parents, to make anything else our priority. That is why we see little children crying because parents refuse to buy them a toy or treat when they are in the store. The child has put value on what he sees, and attached himself to the item with the affections, and it is like ripping the very heart out of the child to tell them, "No!"

To be racist means to consider ALL the people of a certain race to be inferior or superior to ANY of the people of another certain race. I am not saying there are not people who think that. It is just not the case here.

Private definition is private.

Really, post Michael Smith's liberal credentials.

Or is it easier to take him on his word?

I have read plenty of articles like this, and those ones at least had the honesty to say, "I was a liberal, not now".

That 'liberal' is a racist.

And a stupid one.

He uses the blacks he meets as defendants in the court system as a defining set for the entire race. And remember he only meets the ones he is defending as public defender. The somewhat smarter ones can afford better representation.

I've seen black scum. I've also remember a black water polo player on the Cal Tech team, A black surgeon I played rugby with while in Grad School at UCLA. A black church lady down in watts who hunted me down at the end of the day to make SURE I got my knife back. (Post Rodney King riots, the Irish Honkey, e.g. me, was the only one there with a knife and it can be difficult to open boxes of food bare handed). At least a dozen more black rugby players all good guys and most college graduates and not from second rate schools.

I thought the "white man's burden" brand of liberalism was long dead. I now see it is alive, well and toxic as ever.
