• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi,
OCD can be a tough thing. I don't know how you view it, but before we get into your issues I'd like you to consider the following:

You say that Jesus is Lord, and you’re right, He is. If you have confessed the Lord Jesus Christ with your mouth, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans10: 9-10).

I believe it is safe to assume you confessed Jesus is Lord, and made the decision to accept His forgiveness, and follow His leadership, dedicating yourself to follow Him as His disciple. If you have not, then please, write me back on this stream so we can discuss it.

If you are His disciple then I would like to share with you some wonderful things, which if you know, shall change your perspective on every challenge you are faced with. The moment that you committed yourself to The Lord Jesus Christ a marvelous transformation occurs that most people are simply not aware of. The Apostle Paul speaks very definitively about this, and I want to share this marvelous work that God has bestowed on you. I believe, and am confident, that this work of marvel shall help you; it’s not a cure, but rather, a powerful answer to the extreme difficulties of life that we conquer as disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then as we experience the conquering of enemies, trials, tribulations, and diseases, which come upon us as what you are currently experiencing, and we do it through the love and power of the Lord Jesus Christ, we can pass those Gems of wisdom on to others who suffer as you.

And so, I want to help you by laying a foundation for you. This foundation is the fundamental strategy that empowers us as Christians, and Disciples of Christ to overcome our trials in this world. These boxing gloves are the armor of God.
The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord, and you revealed that you certainly want to serve God through Jesus Christ according to His words; and in His words the Apostle Paul states to his fellow believers in Christ the following statement:

“4 Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints, 5For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel… Colossians 1: 4-5… 9For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; Colossians 1: 9-11”.

I realize this may not seem to mean much. Right? Paul is simply praying for these believers, and recognizing their work for the hope that is laid up for them in heaven, and he prays for them that they grow in the knowledge of God’s will and wisdom. Well, While that is a simple truth, the great overlooked truth that Paul is defining is that God has created in your spirit by the power of Jesus Christ (which still occupies your current flesh body) a new state of being, which removed, and cleansed you of all past wrong doing and sin, which also removed all offenses toward God. Also He reveals that this new redeemed spirit is in you, and he is praying to God for you, that God will mobilize you, and that you will actually access it! In other words, when you accepted Jesus Christ as Lord, in return God gave you a “Salvation Care Package”. That package comes with many tools! Paul is praying that you find out what all the tools are so you can put it to use as quickly as possible. This way you can effectively do such things as: preach the Gospel, and have success in fighting off the trials of this world, like OCD, and also “quench the fiery darts of the wicked (Ephesians 6:16).” God gave you a package that Jesus Christ died for, and then He resurrected from the dead, in order for you to obtain it. Now, He wants you to “walk worthy of it”. Meaning Paul, and Christ want you to put it to use. In verses 10 and 11 above, Paul further states the he is praying that you are “Being Fruitful…”, and also being powerful, again revealing this state of being that you already own, and he is praying that you would occupy this state, which God has already imparted on you, and exercise this new spiritual muscle of yours.

How do you use this new muscle? First let’s define what tools this new spirit muscle uses. Because Paul is defining what Christ has achieved, it becomes clear that he wants us to know, not only what Christ has achieved, but also what your tools are so you can use them. This means that we need to study the New Testament in order to understand these tools. Therefore, if you would like to continue with this foundational work, my recommendation to you would be read the Gospels in order to see what God has achieved, then the book of acts to see what the Church has achieved by using these muscles, Finally, focus on the Epistles of the Apostles. Following these directions will set into action a new dynamic to help you establish your mental headspace, fight your thoughts effectively, push back the worldly and intrusive thoughts, and establish a way to mange the disease. I completely understand. The same exact thing happened to me, many times. Years ago, I read a quote that said..."OCD is a disconnect from the Holy Spirit". It took my breath away. At that moment, I put all of my worries in God's hands and I felt myself healing from that moment. But let me tell you, It was a roller coaster...some days bad, others good. But as time went on, my faith that God would handle my problems continued to help me by making the time between OCD moments longer and longer. Healing is a process and takes a long time (Mine started intensely around 2001 and started getting better in 2007 after reading that quote I mentioned earlier). Have faith in our Lord by putting all mental troubles in his hands....try it...just shrug your shoulders and say, here we go again Lord....please take my worries. He will...trust me. By the way, I understand the depression as well. For me, it was more of a feeling of hopelessness, but all the OCD and depression side effects started going away thanks to God's great mercy. He just asks us to trust him.....really trust him. We just need a strong faith in him.

God bless you!
