Elihu cuts to the very core of the matter of Theodicy in Job 34:17: “Shall one who hates justice rule? And will you condemn the righteous mighty One?”

Men are unrighteous, yet it is always they who question the righteousness of God. Shall unrighteous men, none of which that do good (Rom 3:10) and whose every thought is continually towards evil (Gen 6:5), be the deciders of what is just? Should God abide by man, though man is wicked?

Thanks be to God that we are at His mercy, who is "righteous in all His ways And kind in all His deeds" (Ps 145:17), and not at the mercy of ourselves or any other man. Amen.

I agree that ultimately we can’t demand that God justify himself. However Job is not the best text to quote for this, since Job did challenge God and in the end God said that Job was right and Elihu wrong.

But despite its title. most of the action in theodicy isn’t really demanding that God justify himself. It’s demanding that certain theologies justify themselves by showing that they’re consistent with what we know about God from Jesus. Of course sometimes this involves an overly warm and fuzzy version of Jesus. But I think there are ideas of God and judgment that aren’t consistent even with the real Jesus.

Far from it. God accused Job of darkening His counsel without knowledge. I question your interpretation of the text (and it would be opposed to certain reformed thinkers, such as Joseph Caryl.)

Most of what I have seen, especially at university, is people accusing GOd of injustice because of their own view of justice. It amounts to, "If I were God, I would do it this way."

THe problem is, we are totally depraved people. We should be happy God did not do it OUR way.

Well first let me say that WE ARE the righteousness of Christ...once we believe/accept His death, burial, and resurrection so He can redeem us.
When God sees a believer He does not see any sin or wrongdoing: He only sees Christ's righteousness.

If we remind ourselves, in regard to theodicy, that God is omniscient, eternal, and "a day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as a day" to Him: He sees the past, present and future at the same "time"...

Then allowing evil to exist for the time being is no big deal. We live in the age of grace right now...soon He will put a stop to the devil's shenanigans.

He created humans (adam) for fellowship. He already had (has) angels which do not have free will, and function exactly as he demands them to. He wants to be Loved by us because WE choose to love Him. Some obviously choose not to... we all reap what we sow.

But when God sees evil "win" He knows it is not forever... He is patient even with satan right now...

Evil is what we have because of "the original sin"...

What the secular population (i.e. unbelievers) doesn't realize is that they cannot determine justice or the like because they have no moral base...which comes from God. The current population around the world is being taught that there is no "absolute" --no absolute truth, only your truth and my truth etc... there is no God who is absolute...so all of their opinions are based upon societal mores of the time...ever changing and never just.
