Apparently thanks to my priest and deacon's scandalous behavior, I might have given up Orthodoxy for Lent....

ugh. I'm really suffering spiritually. Lenten prayers for gurney sure would be appreciated.

May God's comfort and grace be with you. :crossrc:

Holy Mother of God wrap her arms around you.

BTW, I see you recently had a birthday, so happy belated birthday.

normally i give up breakfast for lent. but this is a time of grieving for me right now and nothing is normal any more. so now i'm just trying to hang in there as best i can.
Very sorry to hear about your loss. Yes, hang in there, day at a time and all (a cliche but a true one)...

Oy! Four replies and no one has said "guns" yet!

Well, I'll give up guns, just to set a good example.

Isn't it wonderful that you have the freedom to give up guns?:clap::clap: (I know you aren't being serious.)

For lent, purposefully smile more and squelch gossip. Also giving up perch dinners on Friday and give that money to the poor.

As long as it's for lent only Gurney.
actually while I do encourage you to stay faithful to the communion which you are a part of I think staying away for lent could be smart.

Please Gurney don't judge Orthodoxy as a whole based on those two ?!¥!?':s.
If you move elsewhere you'll still find that some people are just bad caracters regardless of their religious afflications.

Stay faithful until the end Scott !

You rest in my prayers dearest brother in the king of Kings Jesus Christ our LORD.

subsidy from the state, laziness. Those two are not necessarily as related as You might think. Instead I'm getting a few hundred US$ loan for studies which I'm saving for a huge pre-pub order on books (new academic scholarly monographs) in one of the two Bible Study Softwares I use. I would like to support the other Software, Accordance, more but they don't always have all books I need to cite for papers, grades and authoring a book I'll publish (which is in a still distant future). I don't do much for others financially but I really care about my few friends, and if I start a family I raise money for those kind of expenses from my parents as they (especially mum) want grandchildren - although they won't necessarily be biological.
Most of the things You guys are talking about in this thread I've either given up during almost my entire adult life or never done, such as that I've never smoked or been drunk - there are more things I didn't notice anyone mentioning: I have never drinked coffe:
Meat, junk food, laziness, alcohol.
