Unless I'm mistaken, Ash Wednesday is coming up next week. I've been wondering if the little Continuing Anglican parish I like to visit sometimes celebrates it since they're Anglo-Catholic. Besides my RCC friends here, does anyone else observe it?

We had our Ash Wednesday service this evening. I've never been to a Lutheran church that doesn't. Our parish will continue holding Wednesday services throughout Lent.

I went to mass and I didn't know I could get the ashes without being catholic so I was the only one who didn't get them I felt dumb lol

Very cool.

Aw, that's too bad for both of you. But in that case, as an elder in my parish, I officially say to you, "From dust you came and to dust you shall return. Repent and believe the gospel."

We had a nice service last night.... with a good sermon. Just too bad so few were there: my parish seems to have a real issue with evening services, just seem to have poor attendance. But we did have a couple of guests, that was good.

Lenten blessings to all...

After our Ash Wednesday service, I was downstairs and overheard a woman relate the following story:

"My first check flight after stewardess school was on Ash Wednesday. I went to the airport and attended a Mass with Imposition of Ashes and then got right on the plane with the ashes still on my forehead. As the passengers boarded, one woman looked at my forehead and burst out crying. I tried to console her and she related that she had never missed an Ash Wednesday service until now. So I took her in the back of the airplane and wiped some ashes from my forehead onto hers while saying "From dust you came and to dust you shall return.""

Wow. That's awesome. Good for her.

I didn't get there either I'm afraid. I was babysitting in the day and my daughter had piano in the evening - I'd have skipped but she is behind from having pneumonia earlier. I did consider going with the kids at 10:30 but i chickened out - it is too easy for four to mutiny and overwhelm me.

My husband went with my other kids on the bus, which was brave of him. It was a close thing though, he was serving and the bus was 25 min late because of the bad weather we've had, so he walked in just as they were getting ready to process out.

You do what you can do - and you don't beat yourself up over what you can't do.

That has been impressed upon me by my GodPapa since I entered the UGCC and started really practicing my faith

I know you weren't talking to me, but I needed to hear this today. Thank you.
