• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Now that I'm in the full library technician program, I have this wonderful opportunity to finally move out of town as I've always longed for. There's a starting point for where I could go, and it would be possible to get a transfer from my boss to the store in the city with the main university campus. Unfortunately, that's where the good things stop. The logisitics of living down there scare me. It's one of the most expensive regions of the country to live in. I do have friends and family in the region I could live with, but I'd be loathe to live with family because I think that would be a big hinderance to the sense of independence I'd have, and I can't assume friends would take me in. Everyone lives in the area, but not necessarily in the cty where the university campus is. In moving 200 miles away, I'd really rather not be living with a total stranger. I'd sooner live alone than do that....

While I could work at the same grocery store chain I'm at now, I'd also be taking full-time studies, which would really limit the hours I could work, and the money for paying expenses. There's always living off student loan funds, but the first accomplishment I had was repaying my student loans from my previous degree before graduation, and I'd be erasing that totally.

Sure I'd get my program done faster, and would eliminate many of the sources of unhappiness I now have, but I just worry about how practical it is....

The first thing that came to mind is that it would be good for you to go for it because sometimes the best thing happen when we step out of our comfort zones.... you've stayed in yours for a long time and I think it's time for you to step out and be more independent. I'm not saying it's bad for you to stay at home with your parents, but I think you'll be happier if you're more independent...

Is there an aunt or a friend who you can rent a space (like a spare bedroom) from? It might cost less for you to rent the guest room at, say, your aunt's house, than to live on your own. You wouldn't feel as bad about being a financial burden on someone if you were actually renting your space. And, you would have more freedom as a renter than as someone who's staying there because it's free.... they'd probably allow you more privacy and be less picky about what you do and don't do, and if it doesn't work, you can move without seeming "ungrateful." It's a thought...

I don't think living alone is a bad thing, really, if you find a place you can afford.

I recommend cutting down on your CF time if you move up there.... you'd be able to work more hours if you're online less (although I'll miss you lol)

I really don't think you want to get into student loans.... debt is not usually the answer....

There will always be worries because nothing is completely practical.....

In conclusion, I think it's great that you've been saving money by living with your parents, but if you're ready for a change, don't be scared to make that move. Also, it's in your interests to finish your degree faster, because you'll be able to get a better job when you're graduated.... right?

And I encourage you to pray about this because God has plans for your life... He has this all taken care of, and knows what the right answers to these questions are :) So I pray that he'll guide you to make the right decision.

a study was done recently on a group of elderly over the age of 95. They asked them what would they do differently if they could do one thing over, the most common answer was that they would take more risks. I do agree 100% with the person that said to pray first and let God guide you. This could be an open door from the Lord that most of the times comes with much uncertainty in the physical realm.

John 16:13

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. 14He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine; this is why I said, ‘The Spirit will tell you whatever he receives from me.’
