Has anyone else noticed that a whole lot of bad things have been happening this past week?

First there was the nightclub in Chicago, then the nightclub in Maryland, the gas plant explosion, and now I just heard that a Toys-R-Us in Maryland where the roof collasped hurting several customers. I also hear that an 5.4 magnitude earthquake hit southern California.

To many terrible things happening all at once. :(

Bad stuff happens all the time. The media just makes it look worse than it is.

Keep in mind that in this digital age we are bombarded with much more news and information than older generations ever were.

Stuff like this happened all the time, we just weren't aware of it.

Hehe.....not my most attractive moment LOL :D.  I can laugh about it now, but when you're practically upside down with wires hanging outta your mouth, then having to find a supportable doorway to hide under.....Oy!

I was fine for about 5 minutes afterwards, but then had a major meltdown, cry-my-eyes-out-panic-session because I wanted to get home to my baby's. :(  And of course...the phones were out so I couldn't call to make sure they were okay.  The dentist wouldn't let me leave.....on and on.......

Have you ever been in an earthquake Evangelion?  What kind of "fun" stuff do they have Down Under?

In Cali, SoG?  An F-1?  ARGH!  Thanks, but no thanks.

You had some kind of warning with that, didn't you?  See, that's the thing I hate about earthquakes.  There's no warning whatsoever.  You're at the mercy of God and creation.  The last big one we had here 2 years ago, was over an 8., but thank you God it was 30 miles down, or it would have been comparable to what you went through in San Fran.

I can handle tornadoes ~ a majority of the time you get a warning.  Those are kind of exciting (in a sick kind of way).

Take care everyone, and God Bless,

BF

ROFLOL!  I can just picture it Annabel Lee.  No one can move faster than a mama trying to get to her baby's (even when she's very pregnant).

I am most impressed, and bow at your feet

Everyone was alright I'm assuming (and hoping)?

Everyone was allright. We had a lot of things broken but nothing serious.
Had to rescue my grandmother and uncle who lived less then a mile from the epicenter though.
Northridge was surreal that day. It was like a war zone. That vision will stay in my mind for as long as I live.

Surreal.  What a good description!  Do you do what I do?  Anytime you feel any type of shaking, you pause and wonder........

Yes! A large truck drives by and shakes the house and I stand still and listen......

I'm very earthquake prepared though. I can get all the supplies into my truck within 5 minutes. (We've timed it) lol
We have enough to live outside fairly comfortably for at least a week.

You could always drive up here and stay with us and our supplies!  We haven't timed how long it takes to get stuff packed up.  I'd be please just to be able to get all the kids in the van :D

I know exactly what you're talking about though, in that when the house shakes you stand perfectly still and determine whether it's an earthshake (as my cute lil' 3 yr old calls it) or not.   Yuck.  I just hate that feeling. :(

I remember sitting in the barracks at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska, playing cards with some buddies. Anchorage gets an average of about 25 tremors a day, most of which are too small to notice.

Anyway, all of a sudden, the barracks starts to feel like it's sitting on top of a gigantic bowl of jello that somebody has just smacked the side of---liquid in glasses starts to slosh back and forth, bottles and whatnot on the shelves are tinkling against each other........

We had a newbie with us who had only been there about a week, and he turned dead white. The shake stopped, and he said, "Hey, wh...what wazzat?"

We looked up and somebody said, "Huh? Oh, that was an earthquake. Okay, whose play is it?"

Wols ~ I never put together the earthquakes and you being stationed there.  You guys were way too cool and calm ~ I'd be a wreck :D.

Evangelion ~ you guys get the wicked fires down there.  We get the newscasts even up here in Washington on them.  They're aweful!  I guess you could use some of that Seattle rain during the fire season, huh?

You do get used to it after a while. :)

We had a guy who drove the base shuttle bus who lost two sons in the 1964 quake up there. Both of them were working in a huge salmon cannery---I guess the building they were in covered several acres---and when the quake was over, it was just gone; building, machinery, people, the whole nine yards, just as if they'd never existed. Apparently the whole works fell into a crevasse which closed up afterwards, and that was that.
