• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Dear members of Christian Forums,

My name is Ben and I am a trainee clinical psychologist from the University of Newcastle in the UK.

I am in the process of completing some research looking at the relationship between religiosity, spirituality and OCD. I am looking for participants who have OCD to complete some online web-based surveys.

I have received support for this research from the charities OCD UK and OCD Action in the UK and more recently from the International OCD Foundation in the US. This research has also been approved by the Christian mental health organisation Mind and Soul in the UK.

If you would like to find out more information about the research, and also how you could take part, please visit IOCDF:

iocdf.org/research/research-participants-sought/#UK-religiosity

Thank you for your time,

Ben

Hi grandvizier1006,

You will be asked to provide some information on your age, education, sex, country of residence, occupational status and religious denomination (if appropriate). There are no questions that would identify you personally, such as your name or address.

Your responses will remain completely anonymous and will be pooled with all other responses so that you are not personally identifiable. Also, you can leave a question blank if you'd rather not answer and still continue.

The questionnaire's ask about your experience of OCD and also some questions about your religious beliefs. You can exit the study at any time without giving a reason why.

Should you have any further questions, either before or after taking part, please let me know.

Many thanks,

Ben

I'll take it under consideration, but FYI I'm a bit hesitant because I'm worried that this could be some scam or gives me a virus or something.

I'm sorry to hear that but can assure you this is a genuine research project. If you visit the IOCDF webpage listed above, you can see that it has received official approval (you can visit IOCDF webpage separately and follow the 'research participants sought' option to see it listed). I would not be able to host this research without such approval.

This project is part of my Doctoral research in Clinical Psychology at the University of Newcastle in the UK. Should you have further questions, we have an official research email address that is listed on the IOCDF webpage.

Please let me know if you have any further queries or concerns.

Thanks,

Ben Marram (lead researcher)

Yeah, I took the whole survey. No viruses or anything! I hope my contribution turns out to be useful. :)

Thank you for your support and participation in the research. We will be sharing the overall results of the study (summarised from the whole sample) with a number of charities and organisations including IOCDF.

We are hoping this research will have positive implications for the treatment and support of those who experience religious OCD. If you know of anyone else who may be interested in the research, please let them know.

Thank you again for your time.

This did strike me as a fishy post. A researcher from a university coming to some internet forum for research participants? Sounds like spam.

I checked out the link and it appears to be legitimate, however. The link is to the OCD foundation's website.

I appreciate this request may have seemed suspicious. We are hoping to hear from as many people as possible about their experiences, so online recruitment methods were the most appropriate in order to do this. All of the research is being hosted and supported by OCD organisations, to ensure participants can feel safe and confident in participating.

I hope my post on this forum has not deterred people from participating and I can assure all that participate that your responses will remain strictly confidential.

Many thanks,

Ben (lead researcher)
