How can illegal immigration in the US be stopped?

I have always thought it strange and ironic for the descendants of immigrants in this country to complain about the presence of other immigrants and children of those immigrants being in this country. What's even more ironic is that the Mexican immigrants living in America and those living in Mexico are indigenous to the North American continent, whereas the other descendants of European immigrants are not.

Hi Keith,
But you need to control immigration for many reasons. You have to stop folk intent on harming the country (I am thinking along the lines of criminal activity or terrorism) at the border.

I believe that a better solution is to allow controlled entry.
- Let folk come from Mexico to work as of right. The country is well understood (warts and all).
- BUT they must identify themselves and would get something like a neighbours 'green card'.
- If that is in place then only those with 'illegal intent' would be the ones trying to sneak in by other means. And the country can take a heavy hand against such folk.

Well, I guess you are free enough to be able to speak your mind, as defended by brave Americans. I'm not denigrating your people, either. And I don't care what you do with your life. I just hope you glorify GOD with all you do.

Please don't insult me, I don't need "brave Americans" to speak my mind. I don't think you really want to know what I actually think about America and its imperialism. But in case, you are a bit curious, see my previous post here. Perhaps it would be wise for us to agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Hi OGM,
Do you think that can be done now?
It has been for so many generations of folk being hired and I would argue this has been socially accepted for all that time!
And the horticulture industry especially, continually shares that the labour is required!

I personally do not like the situation (remember I am a Kiwi in NZ) as it so often means crumby wages and conditions for some.
But if there is a need for good workers and folk are keen to get stuck in (reminds me of a student job in an orchard) then why not allow them. There is good and not harm to do so.

I agree! The federal Government could bring Illegal immigration to a screeching halt if they wanted to, all they would have to do is put the military on the border, and fine those who hire illegals $10,000 per illegal hired; problem solved.

Exactly. Sovereign states are responsible for their own territorial integrity and border protection; that is what sovereignty stands for. No one else is going to secure your borders for you. Not Canada, not Mexico, not Russia, not Cuba. If a state is unable to safeguard its own national borders, there is no shortage of state and non-state actors willing to step in and take advantage of the open borders.

Good idea .... Sorry I am being a bit smart as I am seeking to return to the US (I am an alien....no antennae though...) with my US bride. I am happy to show my skills and what I can offer as well as being checked out.

AN OUTSIDERS VIEW
- There is a certain huge group of generally transient workers that are in theory illegal immigrants. We are only addressing one group very closely linked to US society.

- US society, in specific locations (even individual states) has effectively voted for this, by allowing the situation. They are treated as close relatives irrespective of the theoretical 'legality'. I would suggest that it is also illegal to speed in a motor vehicle yet society has similarly decided where it is or is not important to police this.

I suggest that the immigration is not bad at all. What is bad is the resulting inability to fit this accepted situation into the legal framework of work permits, taxes etc. That in itself encourages more and more 'illegal' solutions.

Simply change the immigration policy to best suit the situation making things legal and healthy.

How can it be stopped? Convince those who vote for it to continue (by their actions) to change and vote for it to stop.

By a new president; one that passes a bill through congress. The integral issue is stopping IMMIGRATION in general into the US until our country is cleaned and stabilized and repaired from all the corruption that is rotting it from within, and alot of these problems are being brought here by immigrants.

Tobacco industry
Improper immigration or any at all(until US in repair)
Adult industry and all it encompasses
Immoral dysfunctional ungodly family structures
Gambling venues and processes
Processed foods(FDA restructuring)and fast food outlets
Current educational service providers
Internet
FCC (reestablishment of the moral censorship to protect citizens from immorality)
Narcotics import, export and production.
Idolatry services and production(unnecessary merchandise production and services)

There is more, but these are the primary issues we face.

I don't think they include US passport holders as immigrants., I think they use the term alien.

They should have retroactively denied all immigrants ever entry since 7/4/1776. That'd keep America pure, right?

We could just figure out anyone who descends from people who immigrated at one time or another and kick them out.

On second thought, we could treat today's immigrants like those throughout American history and not make it ludicrously difficult to come in.
