My first serious piece of attempted End Times exegesis....
Rapture, Resurrection and 2nd Coming:
We know from Matthew 24 that the second coming will be after a darkening of the sun and the moon; at which point Christ comes in the clouds with glory and gathers his elect at the sound of a trumpet.
"Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then will appear in heaven the sign of the Son of Man, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he will send out his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." (Matt 24:29-31)
And we know from 1 Cor 15:
"we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed" (1 Cor 15: 50-52)
And we know from 1 Thess 4 that:
"For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air" (1 Thess 4: 16-17)
So how does this align with the last of the 7 Trumpets? Well, we know that both the 6th Seal and the 4th Trumpet are a darkening of the sun and moon:
"When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood" (Rev 6:12)
"The fourth angel blew his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of their light might be darkened" (Rev 8:12)
So it is almost certainly speaking of a time after then. Plus the trumpet and last trumpet references from Matt, Cor and Thess are clear to see in Rev...
"Then the seventh angel blew his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign forever and ever." (Rev 11:15)
So Christ's kingdom begins on Earth at the 7th trumpet.
And Rev 10 tells us that:
"but that in the days of the trumpet call to be sounded by the seventh angel, the mystery of God would be fulfilled" (Rev 10:7)
Add into this the fact that we know that the Dragon will be cast to earth at the same time (the last trumpet / first bowl):
"And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole worldhe was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come" (Rev 12: 9-10)
And it is not long from the beginning of the bowls of wrath to the end of them, hence:
"the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short" (Rev 12:12)
After the dragon has fallen, after its unsuccessful attempt to attack the woman in heaven (the now pregnant Bride? - Rev 12: 1-2) it is seen to stand on the sand of the sea:
And he stood on the sand of the sea (Rev 12:17)
Chasing after those who convert after the rapture:
those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus (Rev 12:17)
Immediately after this, the very next verse, is the Beast rising out of the Sea with 7 heads (same as the Dragon) which leads immediately on into the massacre of the new converts:
it was allowed to make war on the saints and to conquer them (Rev 13:7)
the setting up of the Abomination of Desolation:
telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived. And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be slain (Rev 13:14-15)
and the mark of the beast:
it causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name (Rev 13:16)
Conclusions:
I think it is pretty clear that the Resurrection and the Rapture both happen at the start of Christ's Kingdom on earth, when the dragon is cast from Heaven and the 7th Trumpet sounds.
I think it is also pretty clear that the Mark of the Beast comes after this time, during which the new converts (converted after, or in seeing, the rapture) are slaughtered by the Beast and the 7 bowl judgements are poured out.
So what are we looking for in the run up to this?
A rain of fire and hail (Trumpet 1)
A mountain of fire falling into the ocean. (Trumpet 2)
The wormwood star falling. (Trumpet) 3
1/3rd of the sun and moon darkened for a 1/3rd of the day and a 1/3rd of the night (Trumpet 4)
Apollyon released from the pit, leading a demonic locusts but who are forbidden to touch those marked with the seal of God. (Trumpet 5 - 1st woe)
1/3rd of mankind killed by a demonic army. 2 witnesses killed. (Trumpet 6 - 2nd woe)
And then all hell breaks loose for the 3rd woe (which is what I have detailed throughout this paper).
