• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Tips for People with Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a condition in which a person has high blood sugar level because either her pancreas does not produce sufficient insulin, or the cells do not respond to insulin that is produced. If this blood sugar level is not kept in control, it can get extremely fatal in the future. Here are 6 tips which can be helpful to those who are suffering from diabetes.

1. Always beware

If you are suffering from diabetes, always beware that your blood glucose level may fluctuate unpredictably. Therefore, take your medications regularly and always keep in touch with your doctor. Check your blood sugar level every couple of hours or as prescribed by your doctor. Also get a diet chart from your doctor and follow it very closely.

2. Eat the perfect amount

Do not starve or over eat. Have your meals at proper time and make use of measuring cups and spoons to ensure the perfect quantity. Eating the right proportions will benefit you immensely.

3. Eat healthy

Eat less fat and keep control of the carbohydrates level. Limit alcohol consumption. Eat plenty of cereal and whole grain breads. Fruits are highly recommended as they will provide you with essential vitamins and minerals.

4. Walk regularly

Make sure that you go out for a morning as well as an evening walk every day. Do not stress yourself too much. Walk as long as it is comfortable for you. It will help in checking your blood glucose level.

5. Exercise

Do at least 30 minutes of light exercises every day. You don’t have to go for weight-lifting or other heavy exercises, as long as you’re keeping your body active. This way you ensure that your body does not get tired.

6. Travel plans

If you have plans of traveling, make sure you have the following things – supply of insulin, blood glucose testing kit, urine ketone testing strips, anti-diarrhea and anti-nausea pills, plenty of bottled water, and fast acting sugar for low blood glucose level. Also, before leaving, make sure that you get a medical check-up done and consult with your doctor if it is safe for you to travel. Keep a list of all your medicines, your home and doctor’s contact number with you at all times.
