According to Misinai, unlike the ancestors of the modern day Jews who were city dwellers to a large extent, the Hebrew ancestors of the Palestinians were rural dwellers, and were allowed to remain in the land of Israel to work the land and supply Rome with grain and olive oil.[5]

Misinai states the topic of Hebrew origin was spoken of openly by Palestinians until relatively recent history, much as the Egyptians or Lebanese are aware of their origin in the ancient Egyptians and Phoenicians respectively, even if the topic arouses the passions of those wishing to stress or de-emphasise it.[

Sid Roth: ...."The first Church was Jewish. If a Gentile wanted to follow the Messiah, he had to convert to Judaism. Then Peter had a revelation that Gentiles did not have to convert to Judaism to be saved (see Acts 10). The Jerusalem Council meeting determined that Gentiles did not have to be circumcised. There were only four easily followed requirements. They were to “abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood” (Acts 15:20). After all, James said, they could learn more about God by hear- ing the words of Moses every Saturday in the syna- gogue (see Acts 15:21). This opened the door to widespread church growth among the Gentiles. So many Gentiles were saved that the Jewish believers became a minority.

The first Jewish followers of Jesus were called “Nazarenes” (part of the Essenes sect of Judaism dis- cussed in Chapter 3). They practiced traditional Judaism and were widely accepted by unbelieving Jews. Early in the second century their numbers reached 400,000.1 In the Book of Acts, the early church fathers said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many myriads [tens of thousands] of Jews there are who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law” (Acts 21:20).

The Nazarenes’ acceptance by traditional Jews came to a halt in A.D. 135 when Rabbi Akiba declared that Bar Kochba was the Jewish Messiah. His followers hoped he would lead them to victory over the Romans. The Nazarenes refused to fight because they believed Jesus was the true Messiah rather than Bar Kochba. They were branded traitors, not because they believed in Jesus, but because they would not join Bar Kochba’s armed struggle. Bar Kochba and his followers were quickly slaughtered by the Romans. Afterward, Jews were banned from Jerusalem.

History shows that as the center of the Christian faith moved from Jerusalem to Rome, it became increasingly Hellenized, adopting pagan customs and philosophies rather than the God-ordained practices and beliefs of the Bible. Rome| An Italian expert studying a first century document written by the Roman historian Marcus Velleius Paterculus that was recently discovered in the archives of the Vatican, found what is presumed to be the first eyewitness account ever recorded of a miracle of Jesus Christ. The author describes a scene that he allegedly witnessed, in which a prophet and teacher that he names Iēsous de Nazarenus, resuscitated a stillborn boy and handed him back to his mother.

Historian and archivist Ignazio Perrucci, was hired by the Vatican authorities in 2012, to sort, analyze and classify some 6,000 ancient documents that had been uncovered in the gigantic archive vaults. He was already very excited when he noticed that the author of the text was the famous Roman historian Velleius, but he was completely stunned when he realized the nature of the content.

..........The part of the text that really caught M. Perrucci’s attention is an episode taking place in the city of Sebaste (near modern day Nablus, in the West Bank). The author first describes the arrival of a great leader in the town with a group of disciples and followers, causing many of the lower class people from neighbouring villages to gather around them. According to Velleius, that great man’s name was Iēsous de Nazarenus, a Greco-Latin translation of Jesus’ Hebrew name, Yeshua haNotzri.

Upon entering town, Jesus would have visited the house of a woman named Elisheba, who had just given birth to a stillborn child. Jesus picked up the dead child and uttered a prayer in Aramaic to the heavens, which unfortunately the author describes as “immensus”, meaning incomprehensible. To the crowd’s surprise and amazement, the baby came back to life almost immediately, crying and squirming like a healthy newborn.

I am unable to appear on your show today but more than happy to reply to your questions on my op-ed in the Globe about using markets and pricing mechanisms to integrate economic development with environmental conservation. First of all, you say that my current position contradicts “the good work of Reform in Parliament against the Kyoto Protocol of 1997.” I suggest that you misunderstand both my current position and our opposition to the Kyoto Accord which was expressed over many weeks, not just in the Take Note debate in Parliament. One of our principal objections to the Kyoto Accord was that its terms, even if one agreed with them which we did not, could not be implemented without the agreement of the provinces and the private sector. The government of the day obtained neither, but it went ahead and signed the Accord anyway, knowing full well that it could not be implemented in Canada. We objected to the hypocrisy of this manoeuvre as much as to the Accord itself.

And, while I support the concept behind pricing pollution, I did not then, nor do I now, support a carbon tax in the form and language in which it has been presented heretofore – for reasons given in my Globe and Mail op-ed. I will leave it to your viewers to judge whether your understanding of Reform’s position on Kyoto and indeed the entire Reform Party project is better informed than mine.

Second, your charge that my approach to communicating on climate change and pollution pricing is “top-down” could not be further from the truth. In fact, I find it hard to comprehend how you could misunderstand me or my position on this point. At its peak, Reform had more than 150,000 grassroots members with whom I was in constant contact through meetings, letters, conferences, and telephone calls. While I was aware of the scientific work on climate change, what brought this concern more to my attention politically was hearing from our own people, e.g., loggers in BC who would tell me that they were wondering why the winters were no longer cold enough to kill the pine beetle, drill crews in Alberta who said they used to be able to get onto the frozen muskeg to drill by late November but now had to wait until January, construction people in Tuktoyaktuk who told me that they used to have to put pilings down only six feet into the permafrost to support buildings but now they had to put them ten feet down because the permafrost was mushy, ice-road truckers in Manitoba who advised that the ice roads used to hold up until late April but now trucks were going through the ice in early March. This is bottom-up communication on climate change, not top-down, and my advice to scientific and academic communicators is that in discussing this subject they should start where people’s heads already are. It’s called “receiver-oriented” communication – the distinctive communication style of democratic politicians – as distinct from the “source-oriented” communication style of scientists, academics, and executives.

My last point, Ezra, would be to appeal to you to re-think your own position and approach to environmental issues. As you know, the Manning Centre does annual public-opinion surveys and sector surveys, constantly asking Canadians what they perceive to be the strengths and weaknesses of conservatives. These surveys constantly show that conservatives are seen to be strong on the economy but weak on the environment, in every region of the country. In Quebec the pollsters identify more than a million voters whose professed values and policy positions ought to lead them to vote for conservative-type parties, but the biggest reason these voters give for not doing so is the perceived weaknesses of conservatives on the environment. One of the few issues of direct interest to younger voters is the environment; but again conservative weakness on this issue is the reason most often given for not supporting conservative parties and candidates.

This is all so tragically unnecessary. Conservatism and conservation come from the same root. “Living within our means” – the basic principle of fiscal conservatism – is actually an ecological principle and ought to be extended to “living within our means” ecologically. And most importantly, genuine conservatives believe that markets can be harnessed to any task, including environmental conservation, as an alternative to excessive government intervention in the economy and over-regulation. These are the positions I’m endeavouring to promote, from the bottom up as well as with decision makers, and they are completely consistent with both the spirit and the substance of Reform.
